Si.....sisters? Mitsuru was surprising Truffles left and right. No. She couldn't have another sibling. She'd failed her brother so horribly... Mitsuru was sure to get hurt if she stayed around and got close... Maybe she should just go back to the room...
The power and determination behind the teen's announcement made the girl's eyes widen and begin to glitter, her motion to stand halted. Did Mitsuru... really think all that? She had to turn her head away to hide the quivering lip and the rising water in her gaze, resuming her motion to stand. "Everyone near me gets hurt or stolen away," she growled, pressing a fist against each eye to fight the tears. "Even the rain had ta take my brother away. I can't be your sister. I can't have anyone!"
She was not going to cry in front of Mitsuru, and everyone else gathering around who'd been drawn by the smell of food! Why did she think she could stay here? She was better off alone, with no one to worry about except herself! Her shoes stomped small imprints into the soft earth as she started back for her room, fully intent on packing whatever she possessed into her pockets and leaving. She didn't need anyone to be worrying about her.

Mitsuru didn't know the effect her words had had until she looked up. Immediately the flowers that grew from her head shifted into a darker shade of orchid. "Truffles..." She lifted her hand to the child, eyes as unsure as her quivering hand. Had she upset her? She didn't mean to, she'd only..."Truffles!"
Mitsuru scrambled into standing. Her foot caught on her skirt, tearing part of it away and causing her to take a tumble into one of the folding chairs. It didn't stop her. She kept going, gaining speed since no matter how short she was, she still had longer legs than a child. "Truffles, please, stop! Just stop and listen!"
Reaching out, she grabbed Truffles arm by the elbow with both hands and held on tight. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry for saying those things, but they're true! I know you're in a rough spot, and I didn't want to stress you out, but I did and I'm sorry." Mitsuru lowered her gaze. "I can't bring him back...I wish I could but I can't...but I can help you, if you'd just let me."

The commotion behind her nearly made her pause, faltering a step before her stubbornness took over and made her keep going. Mitsuru would be better off without her around! The other girl was already stumbling because of her!
Biting onto her lip to clear her head, Truffles stiffened as her arm was grabbed. Normally, someone grabbing her would have gotten a shove, if not a punch. ..So why did she only come to a halt? Why was she trembling?
"I know ya can't! Only he can bring 'imself back!" she snapped irritably, her free hand rubbing her eyes again. "Whadya think you can do?" she growled, looking back to Mitsuru with an almost daring glare. She was angry at herself, and taking it out on Mitsuru... She wanted the flower teen to yell. Scream. Argue! Something that she was used to from everyone else! Not this.. this... sibling affection. She didn't deserve it.

Mitsuru couldn't let go. She WOULDN'T let go. Not when she could feel the tremors in the young girl. Truffles could hide a lot of things, but not this. This kind of trauma wasn't meant to be dealt with alone.
"I can help you to look for him. We can ask our friends to search, and I can cook for you, and find you a better job somewhere so you'll be happy..." Her words were rambling, but her conviction was solid. The look was terrifying for her. She'd never seen anyone look so upset; angry, hurt, but all Mitsuru could see was fear.
Without waiting, Mitsuru wrapped her arms around Truffles and hugged her close. "He wouldn't want you to hide away, and I don't either. You don't have to go through this alone. I can be anything you need me to be if you'll just let me."

Truffles looked away again. Mitsuru seemed so desperate to help... All that so she could be happy?
When she was pulled into the hug, she lost the strength to fight back. She stood stiff as a board, hands in fists at her sides, but she didn't pull away either. She wanted this so much... She could never ask for such a thing though. And.. Mitsuru was right. Aatami would have accepted whatever help was offered if he had been there. ..Actually, she'd probably be the one telling Aatami to not hide away!
She felt her eyes start to pool again, but she squeezed them shut and forced the tears back. She didn't cry!
Truffles was silent for a long time, just letting herself simmer in Mitsuru's embrace. Her trembling finally died down, and she inhaled a long breath. "Fine. I guess, if you really wanna, you can be my sister, 'cause you don't hafta, but you can.." Of course, she stated this in her most stubborn manner. It wasn't that she wanted so desperately to have someone like Mitsuru. Nope! She was just doing it so that Mitsuru would be happy, obviously!

Mitsuru held onto Truffles as tight as she dared. She could feel the struggle, since Truffles had yet to give in, but she was letting her be there. That was closer than even Mitsuru had expected to get. She pulled her scuffed legs closer so she could take a more natural stance.
In her youth she had been the same way. Afraid to let others get close because she thought she would only be hurt, even though she tried desperately to find friends. Mitsuru had walked through that darkness alone, and she wouldn't stand by while her friend did the same.
Mitsuru smiled, and reached down so that she could kiss the top of Truffles' hat. "Thanks, Truffles. Do you want to go back to the campfire, sis? Our foods going to get cold." Granted, she still hadn't let go. Nope. She was going to bask in this as long as she could, just incase it never happened again.

Sis... Truffles would never peg Mitsuru with a mean streak of any sort, but she almost felt as though she were being taunted. They would get close, and then something bad would happen. Mitsuru would realize that the little girl with the brown hair and scuffed up jeans was no good as a sister. Something...
Still, she thought of Aatami again. He would be stoked to add a sibling to the list. Especially a sweetheart like Mitsuru...
Finally, Truffles gave a nod. She was hungry.. She was sure to get a bunch of glares though, for making such a ruckus! Huffing, waiting for Mitsuru to let go, she finally wiggled her arms up between them and pulled her hat down closer over her eyes so that she wouldn't have to see everyone staring.

Mitsuru was terrified that Truffles would pull away again. She didn't know what she would do if the little girl didn't want her help or her affections. What if it was a momentary lapse? Truffles was so troubled and lost....
She felt relieved, but still a little on edge when she stood. Leading the way back to the group Mitsuru avoided the looks passed their way, but most of the Poke'mon had enough sense to look away. They had enough issues in their own lives to be troubled with being too curious.
Mitsuru took up two kabobs and handed one to Truffles. "To fresh starts, and memories remembered. To friends, love, and a happy future!"

Truffles followed along with her read down, eyes focused on Mitsuru's heels. Why was she letting herself do this? ..She knew why. She wanted this connection so much. Having someone who so obviously cared about what happened to her, for whatever reason... It was a comfort she hadn't felt in so long.
Looking up as the scent of food got close again, he reached out for the kabob and sniffed it curiously. It did smell good. Mitsuru's little toast made Truffles' chin quiver, but the water pooling again in her eyes didn't break the barrier of her lashes. "Happy.." she murmured, fighting to keep the shaking out of her words. Instead of trying to agree further, she began chewing on what turned out to taste utterly delicious. They weren't at the level of french toast, which was something she'd had once, which seemed ages ago, but the kabobs were tasty, and would hit the spot for her hungry tummy.

Mitsuru sat down on a log turned bench seat with her legs pressed together, crossed at the ankle. There was a little smile on her face that allowed her to calm from the moments before. She patted the area next to her, watching Truffles for a moment before looking towards the fire. It would take time for the girl to come around to her, she knew, but maybe one day she would be able to share her troubles without having to fight it.
