Canaan watched as Vortex flex off to fetch one of the elders. When she was thoroughly of range, Canaan let his guard down a bit; relaxing his posture and stepping over to the new mare who was grazing patiently as they waiting.
"She's a bit hard to handle sometimes," he said, trying to break the ice. "But she means well. Our herd has had some trouble in the past with Kalona, and it hit very close to home for her. Please don't take it personally," he added with an encouraging smile.

Wynter Fury felt the tension ease as soon as Vortex had departed. Her questioning gaze landed on Canaan as he spoke rather pleasantly to her. As she swallowed the small portion of grass that she had been chewing Fury glanced around before thinking of a response. Her wings shuffled a little as she thought before her voice came out quietly in reply. "I think I could understand her reaction. I just wish that it had not been so extreme. But from what you are telling me I guess it is justifiable that you would be on edge with someone like me in your territory."
Fury gazed out at the area that they occupied before giving a soft sigh. "I only wish that my breed did not get such a bad reputation. Especially crosses like myself."
Fury's tail twitched behind her as her words faded. A slight breeze ruffled her mane as her ears moved back and forth. Would these elders allow her access to their territory? It seemed as though only time would tell.
"Are you allowed to tell me what your herd lands are like Canaan?"

"Yes, one bad apple can ruin the whole bunch it seems," he said, happy that she seemed to relax a bit. "Is this something you have to deal with a lot? I would imagine that would get very frustrating."
He was curious what her parenthood was like... if she knew. But that seemed like too personal a question to deal with this early in their meeting. He would pass on it for now.
"Our territory is beautiful," he said, with genuine affection. "Its very hard to get to without wings, but if you know the secrets its stunning. The lower areas are down enough where things still grow, so we have plenty to eat. And the mountain waters give us plenty to drink as well. Sometimes we send out scouts to gather food and stuff, but generally we're pretty self-sufficient." tefla Sorry for the late response :C My muse was on vacation longer than I was

Wynter gave a sigh and flicked her spaded tail. The truth was that she had grown accustomed to. Usually the mare hadn't any real reason to worry about what others thought of her mixed heritage. Vortex's reaction had been on the side of extreme though. Wynter glanced sidelong at Canaan before giving a quick nod to his words. "It grows on you though. Sometimes to the point where you don't even notice it. I will admit I was a little taken aback at the hostility but I now understand it wasn't solely directed at me."
As Canaan spoke of the lands in which he called home Wynter let her imagination paint the scene. At first the image that appeared in her mind was of a utopian paradise. However pleasant that sounded though there was a dark stain from what Canaan had let her know about the trouble in the past. There was unfortunately nothing that she could do about that so instead she gave Canaan a shy smile before speaking, "Thunderbird lands sound like paradise."

"Well, some of our Elders are very old and wise. I've heard that Kalona, as a race, aren't nearly as fierce as they used to be. But they are weary, I suppose. I guess its the trade off for being so stand-offish, however, is that we're very protected. Better safe than sorry, I suppose. Not that we can't get wrong I guess."
He took a break to nibble a bit of the grass, smiling as she mentioned the Paradise that was the Thunderbird lands. "Well, perhaps I'm a bit biased, but I think its pretty great." He chuckled. "But its not to say we haven't had our share of trying times. But that's why being part of a such a strong herd has it bests advantages. Everyone here looks out for each other."
A few minutes later, a few shadows began to circle overheard. Vortex was returning, leading an impressive looking Elder behind her. Her demeanor hadn't seemed to have changed much; she still had a glowering expression on her face. She landed back on the little patch of land and tossed her wing-blown mane. She looked over her shoulder and gave a smug smile as her grandmother approached from behind her. (Note, Stormwild already has maxed stats) Following Vortex, Stormwild landed heavily beside her. She was indeed an impressive mare; long in the tooth but with a wise beauty to her. She flew effortlessly, and her giant wings folded gracefully beside her when she landed. Her entire carriage oozed confidence and poise, and she nodded her welcome to Canaan before her eyes focused on the new grey mare. "Welcome to the Thunderbird Herd," she said in a deep, velvety voice. Her eyes lingered over her horns and tail, but it disturbed her at all, she didn't let it show on her features.

Wynter Fury let Canaan's graze for a moment as she took in his words to her. How would it feel to be welcomed into such a place? She was sure that others like Vortex would be wary of her but she could pull her weight and be seen as a useful member, couldn't she?
As she was about to reply to the stallion she caught sight of shadows on the ground and cast her gaze to the sky. Vortex had returned. Wynter felt awed at the sight of one of the herd elders. This was her chance to impress this leader and all Wynter could do was nod in response to the greeting given to her. It took a few tries but finally Wynter swallowed her nervousness. "Thank you for the warm welcome."
Wynter cast a strange glance towards Vortex before returning her gaze to the elder mare. "I hope, if you would allow it, for the chance to join your herd."

Vortex didn't speak in the presence of Stormwild, but her body language spoke volumes. She was obviously still suspicious, letting her bright green eyes linger over every feature of the grey mare. Her eyes narrowed as she observed the gleam of her smooth horn, the ruffle of her cool blue feathers on her wing, and the muscles that attached her spaded tail to her body. Her eyebrow raised in a high arch as she took it all in.
She must have noticed the newcomer's slight relaxed mood, as she looked over to Canaan. It was no secret that Vortex's blood ran hot and that she wasn't exactly the best diplomat. Canaan by virtue of this blood seemed to be better at that sort of thing. Two major bloodlines dominated the Thunderbird Herd: hers (descending from Balrog and Stormwild) and that of the Advisers Belle and Zhuri. Canaan came from this much more level-headed stock.
Still, Vortex didn't doubt Canaan's loyalty to the herd. If he was able to calm her down, and if he thought she was a good fit, she would respect that. She nodded in head in acknowledgement in his direction.
Though in the end, it was only two Soquili's opinion that really matters: Balrog and Stormwild. (Note, Stormwild already has maxed stats) Stormwild made slow circles around Wynter Fury as she spoke; like Vortex she seemed to be taking in every last detail if her features. "I'm honored you wish to join us," she said in her cool, even voice. "Tell me about yourself. Why do you wish to join us?"

Wynter Fury's gaze flickered briefly to Vortex and back to Canaan before she gave her undivided attention to the wind elder before her. She remained still as the mare circled around her and felt that she was on display. During the silence Wynter tried compiling her thoughts before realizing that it was a futile effort. Instead she let herself relax. After the mare spoke Wynter realized that she'd have a chance to give her reply.
"First of all my name is Wynter Fury," here she paused. Would these strangers care to hear her tale or not? Shuffling her wings Fury sighed before continuing, "I came to these lands not too long ago. I wish to join your herd because although I am part-kalona in appearance, in my heart I know that this is where I am meant to be. When I heard tales about this place I knew that I had to make the journey and take a chance."
The grey mare paused, uncertain, did they want to hear more?

Stormwild listened intently, her expression remaining neutral, except for a flick of her ears at the mention that she had heard about the herd and purposely set out to look for them. She was very hesitant about Kalona, especially after the bitter business with her stepson and his mate.
She seemed honest enough, but it wasn't worth risking her herd over just a feeling. She needed to know more. "Tell me, which of your parents was Kalona? Were they pure blooded? How is that you came to be mixed yourself?"

Wynter Fury studied the elder mare as she spoke but couldn't read what it was that she might have thought of her story. Certainly the leaders wouldn't turn her away just because she looked like a small threat would they? The grey mare pawed softly at the earth with her front hoof and stared down at it. She had seen full-blooded Kalonas and the cloven hooves that they possessed but she herself had the hooves of a regular Soquili. At the question that was now directed towards her Fury paused.
"It was my father. He wasn't a pure blooded Kalona though. I didn't stick around long enough to learn my family history though. I wished to travel. My mother was always encouraging me to fly the nest as it were. Father wished for his daughter to remain close to home. I did what my heart whispered for me to do and left."Kamiki never really decided on which parent would be the side donating kalona genes in her lineage so I'm just going to flip a coin.

Stormwild continued to listen, taking in every world and consideration. Her ears flicked again when she mentioned her father, and that he wasn't pure either. She was doing her best to remain neutral and unbiased, but she knew how corrupting Kalona blood could be. "I see," she said finally. "Did you father stay with your mother?" she asked, wondering if this was a dedicated pairing or not. "Also, do you ever desire to eat the flesh of animals?"

Wynter scuffed at the ground with a hoof. This wasn't as easy as she had hoped it would be. Considering what Canaan had mentioned to her though she hadn't thought it would be but there had been a sliver of hope. Having this mare pry into her life was extremely worrisome. Wynter Fury reined in her frustration and focused on answering questions though. It was all she could do.
"When I left home my mother and father were still together. They argued occasionally but they seemed happy. I do not know what has happened since I came to these lands though."
At the mare's question of whether or not she desired animal flesh Wynter paled. Her tail twitched back and forth for a moment before a small sound of fear escaped her. She had never really had the stomach for that particular taste and it had been cemented in her mind that she would never turn into a monster like the one that had attacked her. Her body stiffening Wynter locked her gaze with Stormwild. A single reply was given in response to the last question, "No."Kamiki I'm being made to think. Evil. Lol.

Despite her apparent nervousness, Stormwild seemed rather pleased with her responses. It was a good sign that her parents were still together; it wasn't like her and Barlog always saw eye-to-eye. And most importantly, she didn't kill others to feed her own appetite, which was paramount.
Stormwild was purposely trying to look imposing and interrogating; watching her every move and twitch. True Kalona would be defensive, proud, and confrontational. This mare, on the other hand, seemed to be meek, polite, and accommodating. Her answers hand a ring of truth to them that made her finally smile, an air of warmth flowing over her.
"Thank you for being honest," she said, her whole body language seeming much more relaxed. "Obviously there's a bit of a formality to becoming an official member, but you're welcome to come stay with us for a while and see how it suits you, Wynter."

At first Wynter wasn't sure with what the elder wind was thinking. A period of long silence followed in which Wynter Fury grew more apprehensive. What would happen if she was not granted passage? That question would remain unanswered though as Wynter watched a smile appear in Stormwild's expression. Smiling was usually a good sign that one was pleased.
Sure enough Wynter heard the words that she had wished to hear. She was not a member yet but to be given approval to enter the herd lands was possibly more than she could have hoped for.
Wynter dipped her head in response to Stormwild's decision. "You are welcome. There is nothing more I dislike than one who is dishonest. Thank you also for giving me a chance."Kamiki I think this is my last post for this RP.
