Newgrange was so polite and kind, like the other knight she had encountered, and Canopus was starting to think that all of this had to be some kind of mistake. She was told that knights were natural enemies of her court and that they weren’t to be trusted, even killed on sight, and yet, every knight she had come across didn’t so much as lay a finger on her! Surely there had to be some mistake!
“Well, still, if it’s all the same to you, I’ll return the favor someday. Even if I can’t do much, I like to help whenever I can, and whoever.” Canopus hoped that her smile would be taken as sweet and not creepy, though she knew she couldn’t help what other people thought of her. Now he had questions about her court and what kind of person would she be if she didn’t offer him some insight? Maybe informing him of her court and their intentions would help ease the tensions between their respective factions? It was definitely worth a try! “The feeling’s mutual! I’m not too worried about the Chaos, though… it doesn’t hurt me and I seem to have it under control. I think for us, it’s just another kind of power, an alternative source… even if I could get it out of me, I don’t think I’d want to. It would mean giving up my family, and I can’t do that. They’re the only family I have.”
At least that’s what she figured. It didn’t hurt her to transform and everything felt right about it. Yes, it meant that she’d feel cold to others, but that was something she couldn’t help, now could she? “There might be other members of my court that don’t like you or your kind, so I’ll recommend that you stay away from them. At least until I can talk to them and convince them to leave you alone… it might not be much, but I’ll try. Was there anything else, Newgrange?”
She was getting worried… what if someone came for her and thought he was attacking her? She did not want to chase him away, but she didn’t want to see him get hurt!

Newgrange listened thoughtfully; he was still developing his thoughts on the factors in this war, and from what Canopus said, their supposed enemy didn't seem so bad. She wasn't talking about robbing children and kicking puppies, and he felt as though she were earnest enough in her answers that she couldn't be lying to him.
She gave him a warning about her Court—and it was one he would try to follow.
Newgrange was not interested in fighting people, or in participating in a war with too much grey areas. "Thank you," he said when she finished. "I appreciate the information."
And he did—really. The 'enemy' wasn't so different from himself, it seemed; just someone fighting for what they believed in, protecting their family. Fighting youma.
He still didn't know what it was about them that made them so bad, but he didn’t know if tonight was the night to ask. His information must have been wrong; he couldn’t imagine a situation where he would have wanted to fight Canopus, and rather than risk sounding entirely ignorant, he wanted to make sure he wasn't the one confused.
"I think that's all I can bother you for tonight—but I would like to talk again. I hope we can meet again in the future. Over less stressful circumstances, though!"

"You're very welcome," Canopus said with a beaming smile, rather enjoying the sensation of being useful to someone, even if all it could be was providing information. Sometimes, that's all someone needed to get by in life... maybe that's why there was a war going on between the two factions? They simply lacked information about one another! "I'm glad I could help in some way... I think I prefer giving advice or references to information that I do fighting, though."
Not that it wasn't just a tad bit fun, she told herself. Perhaps it was because they were alive from the experience that she could say it was somewhat enjoyable, but would she want to go through another youma attack? Absolutely not. Only insane people enjoyed those kind of things!
"I look forward to it, then... I'd like to know more about knights too, if you're willing to share." Canopus wouldn't have blamed him if he opted out. After all, maybe his other knight allies wouldn't have approved of the trade of information between the two- would her Court be angry with her? She'd ask the next time she saw Remarque or Leto. Until then, she was happy she'd at least get the chance, thanks to Newgrange. "I'll talk to you later, then... be careful getting home!"
And not to waste another moment of his time, Canopus turned away with a wave, hoping that the rest of her night would be less stressful for the both of them.
