Z'fer of brown Calanoth, Second wing. Available to have been squiremaster for the past five turns or so.
- Z'fer doesn't care about age, he is far more likely to choose a boy rather than a girl, though it's not impossible for him to choose a girl of the right temperament.
- He's more interested in candidates who are like him: Confidence (or cocky and arrogant) and Ambition are the main traits he looks for. If you're a stick in the a** be prepared to be mocked though. Actually, in general be prepared to be mocked.
- Z'fer will expect you to keep up, and his method of correction involves you making a mistake, him laughing at you, then expecting you to learn from said mistake. Unless you put your life, his life, or the mission's success in jeopardy. Then expect wrath once everyone is safe and home. It's because he cares I swear. Maybe not about you, but he cares about something.

And that's all I can think of right now. xd You'll need a tough skin but pretty much expect a bro-ship if Z'fer is your squiremaster.

>>; Don't mean to double-quote ya oops.

Just due to their personalities being rather similar, would Z'fer have considered Saverah for a squire before she Impressed? She just recently graduated, but prior to being a Weyrling would have been up for squiring for around 2-3 turns, starting at around age 13. She's a spitfire very much assured she'll show the rest of the world just how great she is, and listens with keen attention to anything someone tells her. If only to know exactly what they're telling her to the letter so she can try to figure out loopholes and exact boundaries their sentence structure made for her.

Mocking would have been met with her own dished right back to him, which may or may not have been a good thing.

ewe; Don't want to ramble your eyes out, but figured I'd throw something out to see. If you think they might have worked, would love to chatter on shenanigans and the like :3

Z'fer might have chosen her for a lark in the beginning, then stuck with her until she finished her time as a squire and was allowed to Stand. Her attempts to push the rules have mostly been condemned though. Z'fer doesn't stand for cheaters and rule breakers but so long as she didn't actually BREAK any rules she wouldn't be in any serious trouble. Still, it would have been a point of contention between them if he did take her as his squire.

His job after all is to help capture and bring to justice lawbreakers. Social and most 'unwritten' rules are fair game, but if it's laid out plain that you Do or Do Not Do This. Then by Faranth she had better follow those rules. He might have tried to teach her a bit of right and wrong...why she shouldn't do what she does in certain circumstances, but there's no promise at how good of a job he might have done at that.

His problem with it mostly would be because it annoyed him whenever she did it to him. Do it to someone else (and not actually break any rules)? You get a high five and he'll probably defend her. Do it to him and you get cussed out by an exasperated rider.

Other than that, he would have been supportive, and a willing sparring partner easily whenever she needed to work through her emotions.

I'saak of Green Ellibreth - Fourth Wing. Available to have taken a few squires in the past 10 or so years.

He's actually kind of a sweet-natured, unambitious guy, and he's Fourth Wing, so the odds aren't very good that he'd be in high demand, but at the same time, he's both practical and quite adept at what he does. So anyone Candidates who seemed a little delicate/out-of-place could very well have ended up with him. Also, he's a builder/planner/engineer, so he's a lot more likely to have taken brainy/thinky Candidates as opposed to the more physical sorts.

Both Fourth Wings are disaster relief, so a streak of altruism would catch his eye, too. And he'd be pretty sweet to his Candidates. He's not a slave-driver by any means, so he'd probably end up adopting them/keeping an eye on them/being a little soft on them.

Being pushed out of her comfort zone was probably good for her, and as for the gruesome stuff, well, knowledge isn't always pleasant. XD Three turns sounds about right.

How would she have felt about L'ris' political views? She's pretty staunchly rider supremacist, which definitely makes some people feel uncomfortable.

She would have been more uncomfortable at the start, having been hold bred, but as she learned more about what a dragonrider really does, I think she would have come to see why L'ris feels that way.

Any sort of notable incidents I should be aware of/that could have gone down? (like reactions on seeing her first body, etccc.)

Can I offer you Egg? No sane candidatemaster would let her go anywhere near a combat wing, but might want to encourage her to aim a little higher then Fifth Wing. Out-of-place definitely describes her (and it probably amazes everyone involved that she managed to claw her way through boot camp without quitting and/or having some sort of nervous breakdown).

Awwww I really like it!

I'm not sure he'd have any idea what to do with her, but he'll be quite protective and pretty fierce about anyone who tried to give her crap for being female/give him crap for taking on a female squire. That said, he will do what he can to keep her in shape both physically and mentally. He's not a drill sergeant, though!

And Ell will like her a lot and try to get her to ply her skills toward problem-solving, not just numbers.

Because hilarity can only follow...

L'ris of green Pennath, third wing-1 (probably). Has been around for shaffing ever, probably taking squires for at least twenty five turns
- Has a squishy soft spot for candidates she thinks are vulnerable, but at the same time she's not going to take someone she thinks can't hack keeping up with her. She also has very little patience for whining or stupidity.
- Is a bully and has no regrets about it, she's pretty sure she has your best interests at heart. Probably wouldn't be assigned candidates who are going to collapse into tears at the least provocation. That said, anyone else who dares screw with them is in Deep Deep Trouble.
- Will probably overfeed her squire because ???affection
- Definitely a focus on swordplay and other such skills. As far as she's concerned, literacy is important, but not alOs important as keeping your noggin whole.
- Prepare to be dragged into political campaigning the moment Weyrleadership is questioned. She firmly supports pro-female riders and is inevitably involved in one way or another.
- Has had a large collection of squires over the turns, and has lost at least one before they Impressed: everything she does in the field will be reasonably carefully vetted before she allows them near it.

Hey, sorry to pick your poor character clean, but if she does not yet have a new squire after Zareen, I'm working on one now who is fairly young, so could plausibly have been assigned a squiremaster just six months ago.

He is a teeny tiny person who is used to putting up with bullies so I thought maybe they'd make a good fit. Murder wing is right about where I was hoping to get him. He's a high achiever, so he'd want to be one of the top three, but he isn't quite the brawny leadership material that would get into the to two. Also it'd be funny to see him dragged into women's rights rallies.

(I'd link you the profile but my tablet refuses to copy/paste from a browser. Also, it's still a pretty pathetic wip..)

I’m not sure Venk would be likely to hand over someone who’s easily upset or very very sensitive to L’ris - she’s not a monster, but at the same time… xD It *could* be a very quick route to a nervous breakdown/dropping out of candidacy for the poor candidate in question. (see: her behaviour in the Gather, other acts of wtf-ery past and to come, in a ‘oh shaff, do you remember that one time she challenged that brown rider to a duel over where they were sitting at breakfast what was she even on???’ sort of way (there were reasons, okay, she thinks she’s justified) )

I think she’d appreciate that - boot camp was a srs uphill struggle for her, and it’s getting *easier*, but it’s still not easy - having someone ‘on her side’ who’d be watching out for her would be a bit of a relief!

I can 100% see her being fascinated by Rube Goldberg machines re problem solving - maybe something they could set up together? (and wheeen the flit takes the treat, then the spring will go like this, making the doohickey do this, dropping a note down to the kitchens! 8D)

He's not really that sensitive. Idk, I'm having trouble expressing it properly in his profile. He does get upset but doesn't really show it, he definitely isn't the sort to break down or burst into tear. Still, if you don't think it's a good fit, that's fine.

S'ol of blue Zaqueth. 4th tier, actual wing undecided. Available to have been squiremaster for the past six turns.
- As a 4th tier rider he doesn't get a look in with having a squire all that often. When he does however he will tend to choose the 'underdog' types.
- He is so full of energy and idealism he may explode some day.
- Expect to be dragged into his slightly chaotic plans to make the world a better place.
- He will do his very best to help any candidate reach their potential, as will Zaqueth!
- He will have been more than happy to take any squire of his on visits to family, and also pretty much anywhere else on Pern. Day trip to Igen Hold? Yay for expanding your world views and experience, let's go!

grabbing s'ol for deru? once...i properly work deru out, orz

Ideally, I'd really like to get Seytev an IC squiremaster. o3o
PostPosted: Wed Mar 26, 2014 3:46 pm

I'm going to be looking for a rider who was free between 190-99 (or possibly 93-9?) for Feragall. Also a current wherhandler to be squiring to - he was squiring to Porthan up to the end of last turn, before his wher died.

Iiii might be able to snag the BOTH of you with Valeska and blue Aldebarath (currently in progress, my new spanglyblue)!

If Feragall aged out in '99, Seytev's only been squiring since the beginning of the Pass, so that works timelinewise... She'd be in 3-1, most likely, and she has a notable fondness for both foolhardy idiots and underdogs, so there's that. If they don't mind their squiremaster being an awful snarky good-natured tank of a blueriding lady, this could work!
