Stardust was not sure what it was, perhaps the wistfulness in her voice as she spoke of an experience that she would never have but deep inside he felt a pinch of guilt. The ocean was vast, even in this small cove, but he did not hold it with such reverence that Andromeda seemed to be expecting of him. The stallion sighed before feeling the sand underneath his hooves shift a little as the next wave washed over them. It was strange to think that he had come here on a whim and yet felt disappointed in the experience. There did not seem to be anyplace in which he felt that he would fit in.
Feeling the splash of water that wasn't contained to his hooves Stardust looked up from his silent musings to catch the smirk that she had directed his way. Oh, so that was how it was, was it? Stardust pretended to think about something else before breaking into a easy trot, barreling in the direction that the mare stood in. His voice was clear as was his intent, "I feel like I need to pay you back for that tiny splash ten fold."

Andromeda had turned from him, smiling to herself. The stars shone brightly down on them, remote and lonely. But she wasn't lonely, and for once her thoughts weren't so exclusively on the heavens. Her thoughts were on her companion--but not enough. She heard his words a moment before she turned. His body collided with her and she went down with a mighty splash. The water churned over her and she came up giggling, soaked. She hadn't laughed that hard in no time. "I'm meeeeeeeeltttting," Andromeda giggled again splashing water back at him again. At this point though, splashing was futile. You could only get so wet.

Stardust bounced back a little from the impact against Andromeda and stumbled briefly before losing his balance completely. The sand shifting under his hooves was something he was not at all used to. Stardust ended up in the same position of the mare that he had just playfully shoved. Getting to all four hooves Stardust caught Andromeda's playful words and chuckled before raising an eyebrow.
"You're melting? You do not look like it."
Stardust turned his head away from the next incoming wave of splashing before tossing his mane. The water felt cool against his flank but he had to be careful not to get the salty liquid in his eyes. Stardust moved closer to the mare and gently bumped her body with his. "Definitely not melted."

The stallion bumped into her playfully and Andromeda smiled, for once her mind not lost in the heavens. Or rather a different kind of heavens. His coat was made of lovely stars and she wondered if there were constellations on him that she would notice from the sky above? Then she felt herself blushing, because she thought she'd like to study those stars. but that was rude. "Maybe not," her voice was soft, almost lost in the crashing waves. "But I'm so wet from the waves, I don't think we'd be able to tell."

Stardust had taken his attention off of Andromeda for a few possible moments of quiet reflection. It was true that he had not found much reasons to laugh so freely as of late. His familiar had tried to keep his spirits up a little from time to time without much success. This mare though, there was just something so infectious about her laugh that made him want to join in too. This time when he began to move it was just slightly to stand near the mare's side. He had noticed her silent glances towards him. He gave his head a curious tilt before speaking softly, "What is it that captivates you so about me?"
Perhaps the question was too personal to ask at the moment but Stardust was truly intrigued about this mare. It was strange to be the focus of such covert glances.

"Your coat," she said instantly with no consideration. Her emotions caught up a moment later, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. "I mean, you...just I wonder if there are constellations on you that I would see in the sky as well? Are the true to the heavens or are they all their own?" She tilted her head to study him, the stars on his skin seemed to have a life of their own. They shined as bright in her eyes as any star in the heavens.

It probably would not be the first time that someone had asked about his patterned coat. Certainly Hazalina had done so on a few occasions. It was just that although his appearance mimicked the skies above he had spent no real time attempting to see if anything matched. For him it was just a way of life. Stardust lifted one of his hooves from the waves before inspecting it. It was still beyond his comprehension that this body of water stretched farther than the eye could see.
Turning his attention back to Andromeda's Nocturne he remembered her answer to his question and what got him sidetracked in this conversation in the first place. "I'm not really too sure if any of the constellations above match my coat. I have never taken the time to really see if there are similarities or not."
Stardust placed his hoof back into the water before giving a soft chuckle. "I don't suppose that staring at the heavens so much would place you in a position to answer your own question, would it?"

She smiled at him as he spoke finally, for a moment she had lost him to some other memory. "Well that depends," Andromeda turned to face him better. "Will you allow me to look? I know the constellations well, enough." For some reason heat bloomed in her cheeks despite her not meaning anything by it. It was just that it sounded so strange, and it was kind of strange asking a stranger if you could look at them more closely to see if the stars were mapped on their body. There was one star that reminded her of the North Star, Polaris. Her father had always told her that the if she got lost, the North Star would bring her home.

Stardust shifted on his hooves a moment contemplating the mare's request. It was true that if he was feeling any apprehension about the issue that he had brought it on himself by encouraging Andromeda to try and compare the pattern on his coat to the heavens above. Stardust gave himself a quick shake to displace some of the water that was accumulating in his mane. The temperature of the water was getting a tad on the uncomfortable side but he'd remain in place unless asked to move so that it would make Andromeda's study of his coat easier.
With a quick and quiet sigh the stallion glanced back to Andromeda and locked his gaze with hers. "You can look. I'll move just a little closer to shore first so that it'll be easier to see everything."
Stardust moved so that the waves were only reaching midway up his legs. It was easier to stand in the shallows.

Andromeda moved closer to him, the water coming and going in waves around them. She studied his coat as he stood still, not a muscle moving. Her eyes drifted over the pattern until she found something that looks familiar. Nodding her head to a cluster of stars on his hip, she spoke. "That one looks like the Seven Sisters." Her eyes drifted to the star that shone brightly on his front leg. "That one might be Polaris, the North Star." She fell silent again as she walked around him, "The rest are your own I think, or stars that I don't know the names of or who are not named." How sad of a thought was that? That out there, somewhere a star was born and never named? How many thousands of years between it's birth and the first time she could see it? How many aeons ago might a star she was looking at now, might have already died? And yet, for her still it shine or was yet to shine.

There was something soothing at listening to Andromeda speak as she paced around his body scanning his coat. He could not hide his amusement in her actions and let a soft chuckle escape him and cause his body to shake a little as he did. "This has to be the weirdest thing I've ever done."
As Andromeda relayed her findings Stardust was making a quick perusal of his own coat before looking at the mare's. Perhaps he ought to repay the favor of investigations. It would only be fair. As Andromeda finished her inspection Stardust cleared his throat. "If it isn't too much, might I see if I recognize any constellations or patterns on your own coat?"
Perhaps he was being too forward but he was curious now about Andromeda. It seemed only fair she allow him to do the same.

Andromeda paused and smiled up at him. "Weird but oddly fun, yes?" She paused herself, standing perfectly still. "It's only fair, tell me what do you see?" She wondered how many constellations he would see, were they ones that she had noticed herself or ones that she had not identified on herself? It was kind of intimate in a strange way to study someone for the constellations that might be marked on their skin. And yet, it did not feel so strange sharing this moment with him, someone she barely knew.
