Angel graced her company with a crooked smile. 'Very clever. I like that... No too far off the mark, either." Lacing her fingers together, Angel rested her hands on the table. "My girlfriend turned me on to that series a while ago, back when she first learned of my interest in the occult. Thought I might like to see how magic's written about in fiction these days. Cute books, really, and some of the information is a touch accurate, but I appreciated them nonetheless.
"Anyway... Calling it an idear is a bit generous, if you think about it. Fortune telling poses its own problems in that we never quite have an accurate and reliable link to one another. It's an, ah..." Snapping her fingers, Angel clamored for the proper word. "A faulty medium. It's like... Trying to paint someone's portrait with a couple of young twigs and a cave wall. While tasseography's my favorite, it's fairly difficult to nail down a more accurate depiction of the future, which results in all these ambiguous statements like 'great strife in your future' or 'your wish will come true'. You can't see what horrible phenomenon is coming, or which wish will come true at what time, because the medium simply doesn't support it. Maybe a better example is playing a terribly old DOS game - you're staring at a jumble of pixels that's supposed to represent a person, but there's just no room for facial expression or complex movement or anything like that. Fortune telling's not so far off."
And ultimately, it frustrated her.
"Well, was quite kind of you to sit through my spiels and let me drag you off to this cute little setup for a touch of tasseography." Angel sat up and slid out of the booth, bracing her fingers against the lip of the surface to pop the joints while she moved. "You've got some bad spirits hanging about you, Clarisse. Maybe that reading will help you figure out why they're tagging along so you can rid yourself of 'em for a while. And if not..." She spread her arms in a shrug. "At least you had a touch of fun watching me squint at a heap of wet tea dregs.
"Oh, and am I to to take you seriously about that romp through Destiny City at night?" If so, I'll need to prepare a few protection charms for her, something to stave off a bit of darkness unless I've got to call on Astarte.

Clary lit up a little when Angel picked up on her reference. It was always nice to drop lines with someone who actually got them, since she spent so much time around people who really...didn't.
She nodded along with the explanation, eyes drifting back to the tea leaves left behind in the cup. She turned it around as if that might make it clearer, and the DOS game comparison seemed all the more accurate to her - Clary certainly couldn't pick out anything even vaguely resembling shapes in the remaining leaves, much like DOS avatars were often very thoroughly blobby. Though at least those generally had some sort of human shape...
Clary exhaled quietly and set the cup back on the table, putting the lid on to stifle any further desire to try and read the leaves on her own. It obviously wasn't working, anyway. She stood up, picking up the cup. "I appreciate you taking the time to read for me," she said, "and going out of your way to help me with my...spirit problem."
Bad spirits really didn't seem all that impossible.
She nodded enthusiastically. "You are absolutely to take me seriously." She said, fishing in her purse for a pen and the pad of post-it notes she always kept in there for grocery lists and such, writing down her number and offering it to Angel. "I look forward to seeing you again."Aeeth fin on your next post, maybe?

"Hoho, it's no problem to read for someone as pretty as you. And trust me, everyone has spirits floating about their daily lives. They mostly just don't notice it - those little incidents where something falls off the shelf when there's no air movement just gets brushed under the rug as some chance occurrence. Really, spirits communicate with us in a variety of ways, and we're often too dense to notice it. Then there's the bad spirits that prey on our ignorance and just go to town on us. It's not terribly bad, but a balance is a touch better than too many good spirits or too many bad." Rambling again...
"Well!" She clapped her hands together, signaling the departure of the topic. Afterward she swept up the phone number offered by Clary with little hesitation. "Happy to hear you're on board with it, missy. I'll give you a ring when I'm ready to lurk about with you, so keep an eye on that phone of yours." She slipped the scrap of paper into her purse before cleaning up her own garbage.
"'Til then, take care of yourself and your spirits. If they're getting a touch out of hand, piss them off right back with a sage burning. Clears the sinuses right up, too. There's plenty of other remedies out there that work just as well, but I rather like the smell of sage. Oh, and no need to worry about those wacky superstitions like black cats or walking under ladders. It's all a load of rot, if you ask me." I need to have a zipper grafted to my mouth at this rate...
"Alright then, Clarisse, we'll meet again soon. I'm certain we'll have our fill of fun as well as scares. Ta-ta!" She gave a smile and nod before shouldering her purse readily. Heading out the door, she offered one last glance back at Clarisse, where she added a quick wink before disappearing outside.
