Buddingtonite listened to Marot ramble and despite all outward appearances, he was completely invested in what the man had to say, for better or for worse. He was rather understanding towards Marot's initial hesitation, which meant that at least he wasn't that far gone. That said a lot about a man that he's at least willing to take a moment to consider the ramifications of his actions... something that he himself had failed to do. Or thought he failed to do, in retrospect... he honestly couldn't remember.

"Well, I can promise you, getting 'fired' from this occupation may prove to be..." He mulled over the best word to use in this kind of situation, and eventually he went with something he thought was fun, but also ladled with truth. "Crushing to one's morale, but I assure you, I'll make sure you're not fired. I'll keep you close and I'll make certain that you're on task and that you remember such details when the time comes. After all, it's what a friend would do, right?"

He didn't enjoy seeing Marot fidget and fuss like this, and there was some small part of him that praised him for his ability to not simply five into the offer without thought or care to his future. So when he asked him to give him time to think, he did, bringing his hands behind his back and waiting with silent anticipation. He listened to Marot's words and admired him, despite the uncertainty that laced them, and he tried... he tried so very hard not to allow a single ounce of malice taint his wide smile when Marot finally gave him a satisfying answer. Yes, because if he had not agreed, then he would have had to do something he'd know he'd regret... because truly, he wanted Marot to be his friend.

"Have no fear, mein Freund. You're right, you're not normal, but then again, neither am I," Buddingtonite admitted, approaching his new friend in a slow and pleasing manner, giving him no hint or clue to what he was about to do. He could not afford to reservations now and he focused solely on Marot, not allowing a single sliver of thought to the last attempt creep into his brain. "I will teach you everything I know and I'll keep you safe. People like you and I deserve to be together and happy, don't you think? Now... I will apologize now for any pain you might feel, but I promise... it won't last long."

And so, he slid his gloved hand through his chest and did not stop until his starseed was within reach, and the moment he felt it against his fingers, he began the process, of collecting his own Chaos energy and funneling it through his hand and into the seed. Like adding creamer to coffee... a cold, dark, potent creamer that threatened to shatter the cup that contained it, but creamer, nonetheless.

"You understand! That's great, so great! Then this will be just fine! SO fine, and I will work hard and make you proud. I will stay close and do whatever you say!" Marot gave a very quick series of nods, and threw up a positive thumb. This was exciting. Sure, he didn't much about the work he had to do, but he was here to help! But what? What was this about pain? It won't last long? But Marot thought he said that it would be okay! Why was he sorry?

"What..?" The only words that were able to come through his mouth before Marot gritted his teeth tightly as a pain unlike any he had ever felt before was felt inside his chest. It was all so fast, and the grin he had held once again faded away so quickly, leaving only a pained, betrayed expression. He looked down, whimpering at the hand that was inside his chest and his own came up to grip weakly at the wrist of the man who had him in such a vulnerable position.

He had been lied to! He was stealing his organs and he was hurting, it hurt so badly, and he had trusted him! What was he doing, why was it hurting so badly?! All Marot could do was start to cry, a silent, only visual cry, as his breath was caught in his chest. His eyes could only plead with Buddingtonite, wanting to be set free, not wanting to hurt anymore. How could he..

"I.. I thought we were friends.." He sobbed out with the last of his breath.

His friendly prattle was like water off a duck's back to Buddingtonite, though it was no fault of Marot. It wasn't that he didn't like the idea of seeing a man so happy and joyous, nor was he turned off by the idea of having a friend of his own to tag along with him. In fact, he really liked that idea... having his own little duckling in tow, though he was certain that Turquoise may become jealous at the idea of there being another lieutenant to share their Buddy with. Or perhaps she would welcome the company? Buddingtonite certainly did... but his attention was set on a more important task.

Pushing chaos into the starseed was serious, and risky business. He had done it before, with disastrous results, and he could not afford to let his mind wonder. He had to fill the starseed to the brim but not push it too hard, too fast... all the while, he was combating memories of the last endeavor, the snapping of the starseed, the scream that echoed throughout the bony confines of his brain. Screaming, screaming, was it Lucca's, was it his? No, it was Marot screaming, definitely Marot's, and Buddingtonite chased away the shadows of the past, to focus on the betrayed expression of Marot, poor Marot's confusion and pain. It was his anchor, his center of focus, even when he tried to invoke his guilty conscious to release him. He couldn't stop now, not until he passed on the gift... not until he was certain that when this was all done, that Marot remained Marot, and not another Lucca.

But she was a thing of beauty, wasn't she?

Marot wouldn't be the same. Marot would remain himself, his bright, cheerful, rather adorable little duckling self. Buddingtonite was determined, even when he began to sob. When was their friendship in danger? Buddingtonite pushed the last little bit in, before withdraw his hand from his chest. There was still some dark residue to his hand, though most of it was within Marot's body now, and a name came to his mind, flowing from his mind and through to his mouth, never once realizing how dramatic he sounded even as the words left his lips. "Schreibersite... welcome to the Negaverse."

Sounds like a mouthful.

"Friend, are you... alright?"

What was he expected to say? What did Buddy want from him? He wanted to keep thinking that Buddingtonite was his friend, but with what he did, how could he trust him. Though the hand came from him, and he certainly felt different, it didn't make everything alright!

"Alright? Alright, am I alright? No, no no no no, I'm not alright, it hurt and you lied.. I trusted you, Richard, but you hurt me, you did something and it hurt.. But I don't know what it was.. But how can I keep this going, How can I just think nothing about it.." His sobs had subsided somewhat, but he could not stop the hiccuping sound he was making. He was pathetic, absolutely pathetic with that betrayed look he had on his face.

"Friends.. That's what we were, right? Friends, I thought we were, I thought we were friends, but you didn't stop.. I begged, but you didn't.. No, no, I'm not alright, Richard! That hurt!" His hands finally came up to push the man weakly away. He didn't want to be near Buddingtonite anymore. He wanted to go home!

Sorry, I'm not sure how he would find his weapon! XD But I think we need to take care of his crying bit here first before he can bounce back just yet.

You picked a real winner...

Buddingtonite could not help but make such a face as he looked over the newly awakened officer, and he didn't quite know how best to approach the situation at the moment. He remembered the pain that came with being awakened for the first time, but it wasn't that bad, was it? Maybe Schreibersite had a low tolerance to pain? Or he had a much higher tolerance? Then again, he was also drunk as hell when his awakening occurred so it was just as likely that it helped numbed the pain. He looked at the new lieutenant and felt some guilt, but he chased it away with a few good barks. The Negaverse had no such use for such sentimental dribble, he told himself, and he tried to think of a way to get through to poor Schreibersite. What would comfort the man so?

"You're absolutely alright, Schreibersite... in fact you're better than ever, I'd say," Buddingtonite said, flashing him as kind a smile as his face could muster, and he knelt before the newly awakened lieutenant, hoping to appear more as the nurturing mother that just welcomed the hatched chick into the world and not so much the hawk that looked to prey on the tiny, shivering babe. "Did it hurt? I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to hurt you, or lie to you. It was never my intention..."

He held out his hands for the lieutenant to see, speaking softly. "Look, I took nothing from you. Instead, I gave you something, something far more valuable than any of the organs in your body. Well... except your heart, but that's not really an organ, but a muscle. But I took nothing from you. I only gave you the dark gift..."

And what looked to be a pair of Sockem Boppers. Those were to be his weapon, apparently, and Buddingtonite tried so very hard not to laugh at the sight of them. He motioned to them, as he continued to try and soothe poor, poor Schreibersite, even as he gave him a push. He grabbed the toys and held them to him, hoping it'd do something to gain his attention before he tried to flee. "Please, accept these Sockem Boppers as my apology. I never meant for you to be hurt, my friend!"

This man and his sly words.. He couldn't be trusted, that's what Marot's mind was telling him. He shouldn't be trusted, he lied once, and what made him think that he wouldn't lie again? He was a bad man, a mad man, a man with magic who was able to shove his hand into his chest and hurt him and then pull it out with no blood.

He was able to not only do that, but change his clothes, clean him up, make him feel like he wasn't Marot anymore, but someone stronger, someone with some sort of.. Odd dark excitement that felt like molasses; dark and thick and heavy but sweet. Could he place the feeling? No. But either way, now that he stopped crying, now that the pain stopped and Buddingtonite was slowly apologizing and speaking soft words of compassion, he could not help but just watch him, relaxing before him, and feeling safe. It was a mistake, he said he was sorry, he could trust the red haired man before him.

"A dark gift.. I see nothing.. But how did you do that? What?" It was a toy. A bright toy, a toy that was filled with air and seemed so familiar. It was his, he knew it. And they were to go onto his hands, his weapons in this fight, this world he had joined on behalf of his new friend. And yes, they ARE friends! He even said so himself!

"Sockem Boppers.. It's been a long, long time since I've seen these. And.. Okay, we are okay. Richard, I forgive you.. But what exactly happened? These are awesome.. But where did they come from? Do you have some too?"

Buddingtonite waited to abated breath, looking over Schreibersite for his reaction, and little by little, he seemed to be warming up to the idea. Or maybe the pain had finally stopped and the feeling of betrayal had left him, in lieu of curiosity and intrigue. Meanwhile, he was still over the moon with how successful his attempt was, and it was easy to get lost in his own achievement. Almost too easy! He stiffled any ideas or notions in regards to his last attempt, looking only at the success that stood in front of him. To think, this was his first successful recruitment into the Negaverse! He had done it, all by himself!

If Schreibersite was a picture, he would have hung him on the refrigerator for everyone to see. He wanted to summon as many generals as he could to show off his feat, rub it in their faces, but then that would likely mean to admit to his first mistake, and that was still something he wasn't quite willing to cope with. Not yet. Why cope when he now had his own Schreibersite to chase away those horrid memories? With the success of Schreibersite, what did he need to concern himself with his past failures?

"That's because the dark gift is now inside you, as a part of you. It's hiding right there, in your chest, protecting all of your organs with his magic," Buddingtonite said, pointing to Schreibersite's chest but careful not to touch the area, as he feared reawakening the pain again. "As for how I did it? Many nights practicing, and if you want, I can teach you some tricks too, now that we share the same gift. We're so much alike, more so than a few moments ago. That makes our friendship even stronger, doesn't it?"

In response to Schreibersite's very understandable questions, Buddingtonite answered as truthfully as he could, flashing his friend a wink as he did so. "I'm glad we're okay, but please, when I'm in uniform, call me Buddingtonite. Or, just Buddy. Just like I'll call you Schreibersite... or whatever adoring nickname you'd like. Remember, we need to keep our identities a secret from the rest of the world. You know, to protect our loved ones from our enemy. As for your questions, I do not have sockem boppers, sadly. What I do have, though, besides my charm, is a boomerang, and a youma. As for where these came from? Think of it as a gift, from Queen Metallia herself."

"It is a shadow. Not normal shadow, just.. A shadow. Peter pan's shadow. Shadow that isn't always there. It is a shadow, not good or bad, just a shadow..." Schreibersite quietly whispered to himself while Buddingtonite tried to further explain. After a little while, he stopped thinking, stop listening, only reaching out to take the other's hand and pressing it against his chest, in the same spot that he had entered before. It didn't hurt. He couldn't make this happen on his own, so it was special for only this man. It was weird, and strange and all sorts of creative meanings of the word, but that was okay. And like he said, their friendship was stronger because he had given him this shadow.

As for nicknames, Marot scrunched his nose, hating what Buddy was calling him.

"You have kind name. It is a good name. But I do not like my name. Schrei. Do you know what that means? Do you? It means Scream in German. I do not like it. I don't want this name, I want a different name. I don't like screaming. Making people scream. Loud noises or cries, no, do not like, do not want. I want a different name." He paused again at the metion of some queen, and he squinted further, giving the red haired man a confused look, and shaking his head.

"I know not of Queens or of youmas or things like that. I do not care of Queens. No, I am free, I want to be free. She does did not give me a gift, you gave me a gift. So I am to protect you. Because you are my loved one now. Because you are my friend."

Buddingtonite listened to Schreibersite ramble, not at all bothered by it and thinking it to be just oh so adorable. Finally, someone in the city that was just as rattled in the brain as him, and to think he gained a new friend and ally over chocolate? Others would have scoffed at his method, perhaps, but he couldn't hear them over the fanfare of victory playing in his head. The way the new recruit took his hand and pressed it against his chest was a bit weird, but Buddingtonite didn't resist the notion in the least.

He rambled on about his name, considering what he had to say and understanding his concerns. Not everyone could be blessed with such fun name like Buddy, right? He racked his brain to think of how best to spin his new friend's name to make it more appealing. He couldn't just call him Marot anymore, not when he was decked in his Negaverse finest! That would expose his identity, and then he'd be sure to suffer for it. Marot too.

"I can't change your name. It was the name that I heard when I gave you the gift," Buddingtonite said, offering him a sad smile and rubbing his chest gently but making it clear it was only sensual and not was going to push anymore into him. No, he had quite enough. "However, perhaps we can come up with a better nickname for you? Screams... don't always have to be bad, you know. Don't children scream when they see the ice cream truck coming down the road, or when they see a familiar face and are simply overcome with excitement? Screams aren't always bad, my dear friend, and you? You could never be associated with such a horrid thing. Any who tells you otherwise is a liar and only seeks to hurt you..."

Admittedly, Buddingtonite was a little concerned about that last part, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing, he told himself. Schriebersite was professing his loyalty to him, and that was enough for now. He wasn't concerned with such technicalities right now, all things considered. He'd worry about the technicalities later, he told himself, patting his new friend on the shoulder and motioning for him to follow. "But I won't let them hurt you, my good friend. Come, we have that candy care package to get for your friend, remember? Wouldn't want that to go to waste, now would we?"
