So she didn't exactly fit in with her family either. It was an odd feeling sudden;y knowing she wasn't so different. She'd always been different, her family always wanted her to be more like them, more like her siblings. They wanted her to not be her. It sounded like Mariam was different in a way she couldn't change too, though hers was more obviously impossible to change. Not something you couldn't see like a personality trait but something real like not having a fish tail. But it didn't stop her from swimming, or interacting with her family. That realization kinda gave a hit to Kuu's confidence. But she steeled herself cause she knew it was for the best that she left her home, Mariam also ended up leaving right?
Kuu realized that she might have been quiet a little too long and finally made a comment on her family. "Your family sounds lovely. It is good of you to not let a set back of not having fins to prevent you from interacting with your family."
Kuu lit up when Mariam steered the conversation to her swimming, which was one of her favorite past times."I do enjoy swimming quiet a bit. Do you see the river over there?" She pointed her head in the direction of a medium sized river at the edge of the clearing. "When the day is warm I like to dive and swim in there. And if you look cole at the garden you may see shells lining some of the paths. I gather them and shiny stones from the bottom of the river." She and Akiru both really appreciated the look the shells and shiny stones gave their garden so every chance she got she'd go diving for them.

A grin spread so wide across Mariam's face that even behind the scarf it was plainly obvious. Not often did you meet another Soquili who knew how to actually swim. Most didn't even live near enough to a body of water that was any deeper than a few feet. Others actually feared water. Another concept she would never be able to grasp. Water had always been such a huge part of her life. How anyone could fear it was completely beyond her.
The good news was that Kuu not only didn't fear it, but seemed to be rather fond of it. And that got Mariam a bit excited. It had been a while since she'd been swimming. Once or twice since leaving home and really only to keep her skin from drying out. It was a pastime that wasn't nearly as enjoyable without company. Especially very cute company. Her eyes wandered across the garden, picking out seashells here and there, then turned back to Kulasi, "Well..." She moved slowly towards the river, keeping her gaze on the other mare. "What do you say we take a little swim right now?"
It hadn't even occurred to her that the weather might be a bit too cold for a normal Soquili to swim. The cold had such little effect on her that the thought never crossed her mind.

With Kuu's fear of faces she didn't see Mariams grin. But if she had it would have made her smile too. She hasn't seen a true smile for as long as she can remember. Seeing this one might have made her more comfortable looking at Mariams face. But she didn't see it. she did still hear the joy in Mariams voice though and could guess that the possibility of swimming with Kuu made her happy. Well the possibility of swimming with anyone made her happy but that didn't matter.
Kuu was thinking of refusing. It was cold today and the water was probably colder. Plus needing to concentrate on holding her breath and swimming made her more likely to accidentally see Mariams face. That would be horrible. What if she had a panic attack in the water? She could drown. It wouldn't be safe. But would it be polite to refuse to go? Would it be okay to say no? Then she thought of hearing Mariams disappointment when she said no. So she thought what could she do? Oh if only Aki was here he would know what to do. He would be able to refuse for her. Maybe a small swim would be fine. She said only a little swim. I should be fine. The suns out even so even if it is cold I should dry quickly. She closed her eyes a little to solidify her determination. "I accept your offer of swimming miss Mariam." She said forgetting Mariam's wish to not be called with a miss.
Kuu walked slowly to the river bed and waited. She wasn't sure weather it would be polite to go in first so she just looked and waited not that long for Mariam to go in first.
