Siébel watched Kuu go on with a bemused smile on her face. The little pink mare hadn't said so much in a single go before, and the tomboyish mare liked listening to her voice; it was was so soft and pleasant; like a bell. Her voice was rough around the edges; not masculine but lacked the feminine grace and cadence that seemed so natural for this one.

"You're real shy, huh?" she said, looking around the secluded meadow. "Not there's anything wrong with that. But don't you get lonely and stuff?" she asked.

Kuu stiffened hearing Siebel call her out on her shyness. It was always the first step. Even her saying her being shy was okay didn't relax her. They always say that at first. No one means it. They never mean it.

Are you lonely? That was a question she rarely asked herself but others always seemed tempted to ask. But still was she? She only saw other soquili when they wander into her clearing or she bumps into them the few times she leaves. But she always has Akiru. So she wasn't really lonely. But maybe if she got to know others let them get close and actually know how it felt to know a true friend. But at this point she was fine. She thought on how to answer her question. She didn't really want to tell this mare the truth, but what could she say? "I just prefer the quiet. Being alone can be relaxing and other soquili tend to complicate things some times." She hoped this wouldn't offend the nice mare but it was the best she could come up with. "Still I do have Akiru to keep me company most days."

"I guess..." she said, thinking to herself. "I dunno, I've never had anyone really complicate things, but maybe that's just me. Everyone's different and stuff. There's a mare in my herd named Amitorlin who reminds me of you. She's like, really quiet and stuff, too. But really nice."

She nodded. "Come to think of it...she has a bird, too. But a big 'ol Eagle. Maybe if I got one I wouldn't be so clingy to other Soq, huh?" she said, with a teasing grin on her face.

So Siebel lived in a herd. That sounded terrifying. Herd are so close nit there'd be no way to hide when she felt uncomfortable. This quite girl Siebel speaks of must not be as shy as Kuu. How else would she be able to live in a herd. Kuu didn't let any of her fear or mss givings appear on her face or show in her body language. "Your herd must be a safe place if someone shy feels comfortable living with in it. But i do suppose having an eagle as a friend can lend a great deal of comfort."

"Yeah, its really safe!" she said enthusiastically with a puff of pride. "We have a big old Protector who looks all mean and stuff and he's super nice. And the Alpha is really nice and calm and stuff. Everyone there is really nice. We're not very big, but you know. Its nice to know you belong somewhere. That other's care about you, and would protect you if something bad were to happen."

A sense of belonging and knowing that you would be protected, that did sound nice. She's never felt like she's belonged anywhere. This little clearing was the closest she's come to finding a home. It was nice with her garden and the river. Most importantly it was out of the way and hidden so the most part she was undisturbed. But alone with only Akiru there was no sense of belonging. Still for her it felt safer to be like this. Maybe one day she'll feel comfortable enough with fellow soquili that she could join a herd.

"It is good to have a place to call home I am sure." Kuu didn't know what to say next. She felt like the conversation was stagnating. It had turned awkward yet again, another reason she felt better alone. So she left it at that hoping the other mare who seemed upbeat and talkative could continue the conversation. Though maybe her silence will cause Siebel to finally get fed up and leave. At this point Kuu wasn't sure which one she'd want.

Siébel nodded and looked towards where her herd was. She wasn't going to press the matter, but she felt like the little mare would probably like it if she saw it.

"So!" she said after a minute. "What do you do for fun?"

Kuu really disliked awkward silences and was relieved and thankful at the change of topics. The topic was even something she knew and enjoyed talking about. Her face brightened just a bit as she began to answer "I enjoy gardening, swimming, and collecting smooth stones and shells from the river." That was all she really did so she didn't know how to continue. She decided to wait and see what Siebel said in response.

A big smile grew on Siébel's face as she seemed to lighten up a bit, finally looking a bit more interested and less timid. "Oh neat," she said with enthusiasm. "Gardening, huh? I bet you really like flowers! I don't mind getting my hooves dirty, but Ive never tried to grow anything."

She looked at the stream and trotted over. "What do you do with all the cool stuff you find," she asked, peering through the water as if looking for one to point out to her. "Do ya make jewelry or something?"

"Gardening, hmm it is very nice seeing things grow. I not only grow flowers I also grow herbs and fruit. No " She was a little embarrassed talking about something like why she liked gardening. No ones ever cared to ask and it had started to feel personal. She decided to change the subject.

"I give the shells and the stones to Akiru who carefully places each stone as a border around the garden. It helps distinguish each plot with a different flower or plant so I do not over water or under water one. It also is very lovely to look at. Akiru knows just where to put the stones and shells for them to show off their true beauty." Kuu felt very comfortable talking mostly of her garden and how talented Akiru is. She hadn't even realized that she had talk so much and given extra information that wasn't exactly asked for. "But no I do not have the skill to make anything as delicate like jewelry. Oh but maybe Akiru could." She flicked the ear he was on just slightly to get his attention.

Akiru ruffled his feathers at the disturbance. "I don't see any reason to try who would wear it? who would see it? No I think I like just decorating the garden."

Kuu didn't feel any disappointment at this, his points were valid. "I like you decorating the garden too."

"OH!" She said, her tail flicking behind her. "That's smart, and I bet its gorgeous. Gee, I never really thought about all that goes into gardening. I just figured your stuck the seeds and stuff in the dirt and it grew."

She chuckled. "I guess that's why it takes practice and stuff. Otherwise everyone would do it I guess. I bet its really pretty with all the stones and stuff!"

Her eyes lit up, like she was struck with a good idea. "Hey, I don't suppose I could see it, huh?"

SO sorry for the long wait. My muse decided to take a vacation it seems.

Kuu has never once been called 'smart'. She's been called a coward, rude, useless, pretty but nothing else. But never smart. She wouldn't even call herself smart. But hearing it mad her happy. But not nearly has happy as someone saying her garden could be beautiful. She didn't get into gardening till she came to the kawani lands. Before she was so busy doing things to make her family look good that she never had the time. But here where no one told her what to do or how to live her life she was free to do as she wanted and eventually that led to her raising flowers and berries and herbs. "Gardening is a very involved process because not all plants grow under the same conditions. some flowers can only be planted at night, some die yearly and need to be replanted, some can only be watered a little. But if you observe how the plants live and grow in the forest." Kuu paused for a second a little hesitant to continue talking, but the edge to gush about gardening for once. "I've actually also been attempting to make my own breed of flowers." She finished bashfully.

Eyes lit "The stones and shells perfectly compliment the flowers in bloom and when some of the berries are ripe they look like gems mixed with the shining stones." Kuu started heading towards the far side of her clearing "I'd love to show you it it's right over here. It's really gorgeous this time of year." Coming up to the garden you'd see several sections with most of the plants only going knee high many of the flowers are freshly bloomed segregated by color. Small white flowers, large blue flowers. But the plants in the back reach as high as an average soquili's withers, and up to Kuu's eyes. The stones and shells previously noted bordering the different segments.

Siébel listened intently, never having anyone before who ever figured to talk to her about such things. Her herd was fairly down-to-earth and low key...since they lived lush valley at the base of the mountains, they generally had plenty to eat from what grew naturally. No horticulturists had settled there, but, she had to admit it was a pretty keen idea.

"I had no idea," she said honestly. Her words came quicker as her interest mounted. "I mean, I guess I kind of knew that like, flowers didn't grow in winter and stuff, but I never knew what all was involved. That must take a lot of patience, I don't know if I could do it. That's really great that you can, though! And wow... making your whole new kind of flower?" An excited smile broke across her face. "What will it look like? What will call you! Will it be the Kulasi flower? Pretty and pink like you?"

She gladly followed Kuu towards the little clearing, her eyes growing wide at the perfectly planted garden. "WOW!" she exclaimed, her tail wagging a bit behind her, her eyes sparkling at all the colors. "This is amazing."

She early put her nose to the blooms, taking in their scent.

Kuu felt so awkward hearing so much praise. Akiru would sometimes say the flowers she raised smelt better then the ones in the wild, or the colors were more vibrant. But it was different Siebel was so much more intense and excited. About something Kuu was doing. About her achievements and goals. that was something Kuu had never experienced. "I got the idea for making a garden like this from seeing humans do something similar. But they did it for food I only do it for fun." It also gave her a sense of purpose giving life to something and making it better. Protecting it from cold and bugs and nipping away dead leaves and flowers. Making sure all of the plants got just the right amount of water. "I am trying to but sometimes the plants I try and mix do not make seeds and I try again. I have yet to succeed in making a new plant but I am hoping to make some kind of purple and light blue flowers." She would never tell anyone but these flowers were designed off of the coats of parents. She misses them and wants something to hold them to her memory. "But I have no idea what I would call the flower. I never really thought of names." When Siebel approached the garden Kuu's heart beat with excitement and nerves. It was the first time she had ever shown her garden to someone on purpose. She wanted her to like it and when she praised it, praised all of kuu's hard work, Kuu smiled wide. "Thank you very much Siebel. It makes me truly glad to hear someone praise it as such." Kuu looked her garden over with renewed pride.

Siébel loved the smell of the flowers; it was so strong and pleasant and heady. Like wildflowers, but multiplied. Her tail wiggled a bit as she went from patch to patch, sniffing all the different varieties. She was respectful, however, being very cautious and making sure she didn't step on any of the plants, or bent any of the stems or petal with her nose.

"I think making your own flower would be just amazing," she said. "I mean, in a way that kind of makes you like the Spirits, yanno? Making new stuff. And purple is one of my favorite colors!" she said happily.

She was thrilled Kulasi seemed to be proud and excited to show her. She smiled when she smiled, her ears pricking up. "You're even prettier when you smile like that," she said, even before she really knew it.
