Xavier opened his mouth, promptly shut it, opened it again, shut it once more, and then finally opened it and said, "What, erm, bowling? Bowling as in...that game with the, erm, the pins and the...the heavy ball thing...and the machine and the..."
He trailed off, feeling stupid, and cleared his throat. "S...ure," he said finally, in a rather meek sounding voice. "Let's, erm, go...bowling..."
He really hoped he wasn't going to regret this.

"Yes! That bowling!" Helmut cheered excitedly, wiggling against the boil's side before nuzzling her face into the thick fabric of his jacket. The moment he agreed properly she started to detach from him, crawling over his lap to stand on her own, which inevitably gave her the room to turn and grab his hand. She put all her weight into trying to pull him to his feet, though it was likely a lost cause considering their vast size difference.
"LES'GO! It'll be fun! We can have popcorn and sugary drinks and stay up late!"

She was at least giving him space to get up, which he did, eventually, Xavier carefully unfolding his legs and standing a little unsteadily beside Helmut. He dwarfed her by a good several inches, perhaps even a foot or more, and he looked down at her with a weak smile, his hands twitching nervously.
"I'm, erm, not sure how to do any of that," he said anxiously.

Helmut had to look up, up, up at Xavier, but she did it happily. Even if her current stare was totally wide-eyed disbelief.
"You don't know how to eat popcorn?!" She gasped out in a hushed whisper. "IT'S REALLY HARD the kernels get stuck in your teeth and they like make their home there." Which was probably more of an issue for Helmut than it was for most people; she had several layers of teeth in her mouth. "I can teach you! If you wanted." She offered, more than happy to give her wisdom on the subject of delicious snacks.
Her head tilted and she stared up at him for a moment. Then, slowly, she inched forward to stand beside him to hold on to his sleeve. "Do you know how to get to town?"

"N-no," said Xavier, his eyes wide. "I don't...I don't know what it is...exactly..."
He trailed off as the rest of Helmut's explanation continued, and when she finished, she would find Xavier looking at her with an expression of utmost bemusement and shock.
"But," he said weakly. "Wh..why eat them if they just...stay there forever?"
He didn't understand (he rarely did), but her fingers closed around his sleeve and Xavier's shoulders drooped a little as he looked down at Helmut and her expectant face. He may not have known her very well, but he could at least tell that she was (for some reason) very excited about this little trip of theirs.
"...no," whispered Xavier hesitatingly. "But, u-um, I'll, erm....go along with - with you, erm, I guess..."

"Nooo you can't let them stay forever!" Helmut protested as if shocked by the very notion. "Corn'll grow in your teeth! Like, full stalks! Greenery growing between your teeth! Roots in your gums!" Her voice once more dropped into a very dramatic stage whisper. "Just like watermelon seeds in your belly!"
"No no no," She waved her free hand as though she were an authority on the subject. "If you get kernels in your teeth you just - take her finger an---" She opened her mouth - even went as far as to unhinge her jaw so he could see, and made a show of picking at one of her long, sharp teeth. "Dig it out!" Her jaw went back into place with a crack, and she wiped her hand on her worn, torn shirt.
It didn't seem to matter much that he didn't know how to get to town; she knew, sort of. In that it was in that direction, but anything after that would be a surprise.
"...YOU WILL?!" The ghoul nearly shrieked as he agreed, more or less, to accompany her. "YAY!" Both arms went flying around his arm and she squeezed it tightly, hugging the appendage and nuzzling her grey face into the soft fabric of his sleeve. "Thank yoooou! Mama said I shouldn't go wandering on my own but now I'm not alone! You're here!" She beamed up at him, her tiny body wiggling with incredible delight, and then started to tug on his arm.
"Come on I think it's this way! Come come!"

Xavier looked horrified at the very notion. "That's terrible!" he said, aghast, and hastily ran his tongue over his teeth as though checking to make sure there was no corn or greenery or stalks growing there. He clamped his lips firmly shut and just nodded every few seconds at Helmut's demonstrations to show that he was paying close attention.
Even if he was still confused as to what she was talking about.
She nearly deafened him with her shriek, but she was happy, which he thought might have been a good thing. Maybe. Xavier awkwardly patted Helmut on her fluffy head and then hastily dropped his hand, his cheeks pink.
"O-okay," he said weakly. "I-I'll just...let you lead the way and I'll f-follow..."

"It really is." Helmut agreed, nodding solemnly to Xavier's horrified reaction. "But...you get it out, it's like a victory! You win against the corn. It's all really impressive." The ghoul continued to nod along, fully believing every single word that came out of her mouth.
The head pats were totally unexpected but thoroughly appreciated, and she showed it by trailing off into content chitters. When he stopped, she didn't, and continued to practically purr even as she started to lead them out of amityville's campus and in towards town.
"....HEY SO where are you from? Do you have any brothers or sisters? Do they have feather hair too? Do they moult?"

He did like the idea of being victorious over anything, Xavier giving Helmut a weak smile. "I'll have t-to remember that then," he said, almost making it through an entire sentence without stuttering.
She was making funny sounds again, but they weren't unpleasant, so he just gave her a slightly curious look before answering.
"N-no, no siblings," he said, looking vaguely forlorn about that. "I'm an o-only child, so my p-parents, you know, s-sent me here because it was a g-good school. At least," he added weakly, "T-that's what they said."
