Otto smiled softly at her, kissing the top of her head. "I don't think I could ever let go." Maybe that was a lie. Maybe he thought if he didn't let go, she'd never leave. He wasn't willing to accept she was going to die. He didn't like it when he tried to allow himself to cope and accept it, or plan for how to move on. He liked having someone he could get close to like he did with her. He'd wanted that for so long, and he finally had it. So why did Life have to take that away from him?
It was increasingly hard to pretend she was going to be okay, when her death was so evident in her physique.
The buck was given a judgemental glare. "Oh, oops. Should I bow?" He wouldn't.
The walk was pleasant, allowing Nevada to have some fun with his camera phone. Holding hands, quiet walks, and sometimes not so quiet teasing.
The breathtaking waterfall was something Otto could appreciate. Something so massive and powerful had his attention instantly. Her teasing was met with a scoff. He was pulled over with her, looking down at the dizzying height they were standing over. "No kidding. After you."

She flushed a bit at his comment. Never let go.
It was met with a sick dread in her stomach. She was hurting him, she was going to hurt him. Scar him. She should've never taken from him. It was getting harder to ignore those thoughts. Liek stormy she wanted to run. She wanted to stay. She just....wanted to be normal again.
"No, usually people eat Bambi's all over the world anyway. No respect for nature anymore." She teased, "The last time I was in the forest....I sent you a picture of a Panda, remember?" She looked away. Fear had made a mess of that place, and she had done nothing to stop it. And in the end her weapon had been destroyed.
She leaned further over the fence, trying to get a better view for the picture. it was then her mind fragmented, whispered thoughts she didn't have a minute ago.
/let go.../ It whispered to her, /let go and die. This is so much quicker.../
Just one little push and she could fall and end this all. Her eye got a bit glassy, staring down the waterfall's depth. just one drop, she wouldn't feel pain. Just one drop and she'd be with Leroy again. Otto was forgotten as she got dangerously further over the fence.
Just a bit further and she'd be free....

Otto had been fairly entranced as he watched the water fall so swiftly down. It was a calming white noise, and easy to get lost in it. It wasn't until he saw Nevada's hair start to pool over the rails that he saw it. She was leaning a bit too far.
"Careful girly." He scolded, grabbing her by the back collar and pulling her back a bit. "Don't slip n' fall. I ain't jumpin' after you."

"Don't!" She snapped as she fell back, turning to face him. "Why do you people keep stopping me?!?!" It was hard to miss the sudden burst of anger, the flash of something different in her.
She brought her hand up to her head.
"Wha-" The anger disappeared again, just as quickly as it came and she looked befuddled. confused. "What was happening...?" she rubbed at her temple again, "Sorry, I've got a headache, maybe something to drink will help? Wanna take a break?" She moved over to the benches and pulled out a bottle of water, and a small bag of trail mix she had gotten.
It was the first, and tiniest thing she had eaten in a week.

Otto flinched, letting her go as she turned on him. He was completely taken aback, staring wide eyed at the girl who'd been so playful and normal a moment ago. Stopping her? From what...
No.. she wasn't... she hadn't just tried to...
His gaze softened with some distance as Nevada came to her senses. She wasn't okay. He kept trying to tell himself she'd be fine. But that was... that wasn't good, was it.. He watched her as she sat down, finally getting herself something to eat and drink.
He was speechless. What could he say? Should he pretend it didn't just happen? She needed him for stability, right? A safe place. So.. he shouldn't make her talk about it..
No.. right.. wait..
What was best for her? What was best for him?
Shakily, he sat down, blinking back confusion.
Nevada wasn't okay.

Nevada let the moment go, because like most of the moments she switched to anger, it was quick and destructive and easily ignored. It's why her room was still a mess, why she had a broken phone.
It's why she snapped at Otto.
She took a sip, offering the bottle to Otto and picking through granola like a bird. Food didn't sate her anymore, even as her stomach constricted around anything substanial put in it. It ached for more, and she did what she often did about it. She ignored it all. She was okay.
She had to be okay. She pulled her hair up, smiling again, returning to the playfulness.
"Ready to start this again?" the ponytail swept across her backpack as she looked around. "Getting dark soon, we should probably head to the campsite..." along with the benches was a billboard with the trails layouts, a spot marked further up with a small campsite marker let her know that a mile of walking would yeild a area okay to camp at.
"I got stuff to make S'mores." She turned back to Otto, "It's been a really long time since I've had one."

She was fine? Acting like it had never happened at all. Otto started to doubt he'd even seen what he did. He blinked, slowly drinking the water from the bottle. Yeah, maybe he'd imagined it. He had been very stressed for a long time now. It was probably just that. He'd just surprised her. That was all.
He nodded, getting his pack back on. He didn't want to still be wandering when it got dark. He gave her a soft nod. "I like s'mores."

Nevada laughed at him, lacing her hand through his again and trudging through the forest, chattering about this and that. Stopping to give him a kiss when she wanted, then pulling him back on the path.
Eventually they made it to the campsite, and the girl looked around until she found a place that wasn't overly crowded with people, off in the tree's a bit more, but wide enough for fire space and their tent. Yes a tent, she had gotten like that a super small tent that fit one person, but she was going to make it work with two and just crowd all of Otto's space.
"Okay, we just need firewood!" She looked up at the sky, starting to darken faster then she expected. She wouldn't panic, so long as she got light before it was completely dark, it was okay.
In a quick motion, she hand Otto one of the glowsticks, cracking it open as it glowed a bright neon green.
"Keep that just in case, we better split up and see what we can grab!" She disappeared in the woods.

Otto followed along, letting her lead the way, lead the conversation. He felt distant, not able to shake the strange feeling he'd felt from her back there. It was easy to hide. He rarely smiled much anyway.
He let his pack drop in their camp space, heaving a sigh. They'd done a lot of walking. Otto's endurance was something best improved upon. Nevada seemed like she could go on forever. He wasn't sure where she kept that energy in that sickly body of hers. He held the glow stick tightly, his gaze lifting to the darkening sky.
"Sure.." He murmured, watching her flutter off into the woods.
His heart raced. He felt trapped suddenly. He didn't like this place. Swallowing his fear and summoning his courage, he headed into the woods to try and find kindling. He dared not stray far from the clearing. The woods were getting darker.

It would feel like a lot longer then it was, Nevada grabbed as much sticks and dry wood she could find, big pieces here and there.
Her mind started again, whispering dark and dangerous thoughts. It stopped her completely as dark settled in. Her eye got glassy again, distant as she looked out in the woods.
/We can just wander, let's wander away from the Island/
But Otto...
/He'll never stay with you like this, All you are is broken and temporary./ it whispered, her heart clutching. /When you die, do you think he'll mourn you? Temporary. He'll find someone better. Eva./
her heart clutched tighter in her chest.
/All because you failed the mission, look we're in the woods again, don't you want to redeem yourself? Don't you want find Aria or that Halloweener, or maybe you can find Leroy/
Stop stop stop stop please stop.
/Wander away, let's go. We aren't going to be missed/
Stormy...
/Temporary. You are on borrowed temporary time.../
She was like that for 20 minutes, staring off, arguing with herself. She didn't even bother going to the campsite again.

Otto returned to the campsite rather quickly, setting down the armful of sticks and logs he'd collected. And then he sat down, fiddling with the glow stick as he waited.
And waited.
Twenty minutes passed by slowly. Agonizingly slow. He worried, and wondered. He couldn't even hear her moving around out there. He stood up, staring into the fading vision of the woods ahead of him. "Nevada?" He called out, uncertainly.
"Nevada! Are y'all right?"

Silence.
Otto would be met with silence.
Then 10 minutes later, Nevada would return. dirty, a little scuffed up with a small pile of logs compared to his.
"Wow you got so many," She blinked, "It got dark really fast. Here let me get this started..." She threw it in a pile in the rock cove, reaching for the matches and kindle. With a little bit of time, she had a fire going.
She didn't even seem bothered that she was a dirty mess, or if she noticed at all.
She just continued to smile at him.

He'd almost been ready to go in after her, until he finally heard rustling. She came back. Maybe she'd just been having trouble finding the wood. But why hadn't she called bak to him?
He tilted his head as she smiled at him, some ease washing over as the fire glowed around them, scaring away the darkness. She was dirty and disheelled. It was actually really cute. He managed a small smirk, gesturing to the whole of his face.
"You got a little something."

"Something?" She dropped her pile of wood off to the side and rubbed some of the dirt on her cheek with the back of her hand. Instead of rubbing the brown away though, she added a streak of red, glancing at her hand when she felt the wetness on her cheek.
"I'm bleeding..." She looked at the scrapes all over her hand, then her gaze dropped to another one. One long thick cut on that one, not deep enough for a large amount of blood but..."Leroy should-" Her brow furrowed over her eye.
"Did we get a first aid kit?" She struggled to say, forgetting that she didn't have a weapon anymore. That the bond that made her body indestructible was gone.
"I don't remember falling, that's weird." She gritted her teeth a bit.

Otto grimaced. When did she get hurt like that? Worry set in again, tenfold. The teen dragged his bag over, ushering Nevada to sit her self down. "C'mon. Don't worry about it." Otto brought out the first aid kit, which thankfully was included in the large pack. He'd never really dressed a wound before. Cleaning it sounded like a sound idea. Or... clean them. He held her hands out starting by cleaning them off with water and a face cloth. "Nevada..." He began, biting his lip. But anything he tried to say seemed to die on his tongue. He huffed a sigh.
