"Nice to meetcha, Treasure Hunter!" Taters said, stuffing a brownie in her mouth. She reached out for the glue, but- what? Was this one of those heart-shaped cupcakes with the icing? Sweet, it was! This was way better than glue. But- huh, that was odd, wasn't it? The little fella must have been really distracted. She giggled and unwrapped the cupcake. "Thanks for the snack, but I was actually after the glue on your left. But I get it- you're making a card for a Very Special Somephony, aren't you?" she said with an overexaggerated wink. "Or for a BUNCH of Very Special Somephonies?"

Noble smiled as his sister as she sat down and began working on her box. He casually slid the card he had made across to her and then got to work making something else.
His face turned bright red as he took his gaze away from the box and focused on the glue. "Ah.... glue... yarr. There she is." He put the box down, picked up the glue bottle, and handed it over to Taters.
A card? Blimey. He never even thought about that. "I'm thinking of making a treasure chest out of this box. This would look great placed inside the poop cabin." Treasure Hunter plucked a snack from the pile and popped it into his mouth. "Pirates are better alone than to have a special somephony. She will have to be more than jus' beautiful to take me heart away." At this point he looked at her and asked "What ye be making, lass?"

Taters nodded and took the glue. "Thanks!" she squeaked, before dumping glue and glitter on some construction paper and eyeing the snack table again. "I guess if you're a pirate it probably is easier to love the open seas than another phony. The logistics of pirate dating might get kind of difficult." She stared down at her card, to which she'd been liberally applying glitter. "I don't have a Very Special Somephony either. I mean, I've got a lot of friends and they're all super special, but I'm not buying overpriced chocolate just yet. I'm making a Valentine's Day card for my mom. But..." She bit her lip and thought for a moment. "Treasure chests sound really cool."

Apparenty the goal of this whole thing was to make cards for the other foals and stick them in the mail boxes they were making. Nevermore set up her mailbox, a small square that was covered completely in dark red glitter cept for the tiny slot where the valentines would go.
She couldn't help but smile when Nobel passed her a valentine. Oh so this what she was supposed to do, write nice things down. Hm. Ok, she could do that. She leaned over the table, giving Nobel a kiss on the cheek, gathered up some of scraps of paper and starts making up some valentines. Nobel and Wisp would be easy, its every phony else would be the hard part.
He raised an eyebrow as he had watched her squirt glue all over the paper followed by a heap of glitter. "Arrrr so that's how ye make cards shine..." Treasure Hunter took the glue, squirted a glob onto his own box, and plastered a truffle on top. Not once did he want to touch the red glitter. How it will turn into a chest, that was still a mystery. "Pirate? Dating? What if the lass git seasick? Or gives her heart to me capt'n?" Stealthly he pushed his plate of snacks over to her. From what he saw, eventhough it was a quick glance at the snacks, he assumed that she came over to his table with the same intention he had. "Aye, the booty inside treasure chests makes me smile. They arr much shinier than this," he continued, and pointed a hoof at the glitter infront of her.
Tri finished her box with a flourish as she she glued the last bit of paper on the front. It bore her name and a heart written as closely as she could in a calligraphy style without the proper pens. The box its self was covered in stripes of red and purple glitter with meticulously cut and shaped abstract hearts here and there. She nodded at it with a grin. Yup, that would do. Finished she picked it up a brought it over to set it with the others. It looked nice if a little overdone when compared.
Finished with that, she looked up and around the room. She really knew nophony. She should make some friends really and this was probably the best way to do so. She headed back to the craft table to try to do just that. She counted the number of boxes on the stage and began cutting hearts, they would all be the same for simplicities sake but at least she was making them and handing them out.

It took the earth colt some time to finish all the cards he wanted to make but he managed to in the end. And that was what was important! Okay, it was also important that the other phonies liked the cards but if they didn't, he only hoped he'd learn why. Swamp never thought himself the artistic or creative type after all. With a smile, he went around to each mail box and slipped a card in.
As Wisp began to make more cards and started to see some hers, she smiled at her sister's honest interpretation of their bond. In kind she made one for Nevermore.
Nevermore scanned the crowd of foals gathered and slowly started to make cards as she observed them. Not knowing any of them on a personal level, she kept to herself mostly to avoid getting teased or into fights, she wrote the nicest things she could say about them based on how they looked. (Except for Rock Sugar, who she knew in passing.)
After she was done, and with a quick detour to the classroom to hide a card in Tinker Toy's desk, she went to each colt or filly in turn and thrust the paper card out with a half shy, half agitated "Here." and quickly went to the next foal without waiting for a response. After handing all of them out, she dived behind the table where her mailbox was and watched as the other foals opened and read her cards.

She grabbed down her own mailbox and shook out the ones that had accrued while she was handing out her own. One of the foals, Swamp Net, had sent her one too even though they were strangers, that'd been generous of him! She started to giggle quietly at some of them. Awkward poetry, declarations of liking her wings a lot, perhaps her cards hadn't been to far off their marks either. She wiped away a laugh tear, this whole holiday was silly and she wasn't going to learn anything more except that some of her classmates needed spelling reviews.

"I can see how that'd be a problem," Taters mused, thinking about how seasickness would ruin a romantic date. "And she wouldn't be a very good girlfriend if she left you for your captain. There was a song I heard once about the perils of love at sea- apparently sometimes you end up with mermaids who swap you for trout. She was about to say something more when she got a card from another pegasus who compared her to a sandwich. She blushed and briefly wondered if she was the object of somebody's crush- there was no greater compliment than being compared to food. As cards were being passed around, she noticed that she'd gotten a few, much to her surprise. Did that mean she needed to make cards back? She eyed her tablemate; he was also getting cards, but was still intently working on his project. She rolled her eyes at a particularly garish cupid. Normally she was all over this kind of thing- but this seemed... less fun than it normally would be. And an idea was forming.
It seemed safe to tell the colt how she felt; after all, he was as into the romance of this holiday as she was. Which was not at all. She put her card down- it was mostly done, all it had to do was dry. "So. Treasure Hunter. Let's parley and be honest with each other here: how much do you want to stage a mutiny and escape Tacky Paper Lace Island? Because I think it'd be a lot more fun to go do something super exciting. Like dig for treasure! We could even liberate the snacks- pirates like booty, right? And what better booty is there than snacks? I guess maybe shiny gold coins and pearls and stuff, but they aren't setting out big trays of those. You could even take some back for your crew, I bet!"

Treasure Hunter had made sure that he had avoided all sorts of eye contact with the other foals in the room, but somehow, he ended up with a few valentine's cards without even trying. A blur of purple flew past his table and a pink card ended up infront of him. He put down his 'treasure box' and picked up the card. "You have a nice hair and scarf. You might be really cute when you're old enough unless you drown in the sea before that." he read out loud. "Drown in the sea?" he questioned to no one in particular. He laughed and turned his head to look at Nevermore. "Arrr. Ye need to know that me can swim, little lass!" he shouted across the room, and waved a jolly hoof at her thanking her for the card.
Nevermore shyly returned the wave to Treasure Hunter. He'd laughed at her card just like she'd laughed at the ones she'd gotten, and it wasn't a mean laugh like he was mocking her, so that was good right? Nev slid back under the table to watch others open her cards, hoping that they too smiled or giggled at them. She still wasn't sure what all this had to do with love, but it was nice to see foals laughing because of her, not at her or her unusual traits.

Two cards!
They had both been lovely and deserved a response, so Mossflower hurriedly made up two of her own, smiling happily as she finished and offered them to the recipients.

Taters was really confused by the fact that she'd gotten cards. This whole day had been plenty strange, and now she had that awkward proto-friendship feeling that came from strangers being nice to you. Her first instinct was to get really warm and mushy and go over the top- but how did she really feel about these other foals? After all, she didn't know them. They were perfect strangers, and if she was going to be honest with herself- and them- then she really needed to think about what she was going to say in response. She didn't really feel like making them for everybody; most of these kids were strangers, and it just... would have been weird. Mayve if she was feeling more social, she might see things differently, but today was kind of an odd day to begin with.
Still, though, kindness begat kindness, and she didn't want to seem ungrateful. That in mind, she whipped up a few cards, using lace, construction paper, ink stamps, and a bunch of stickers she found on her table. Perhaps these could be good ice breakers with which to start future friendships and conversations- and then the other kids wouldn't be strangers anymore because they would have things to talk about and they'd know a bit about how she felt. It was important to be honest when starting a friendship, even if it was under the constraints of a silly card-based holiday that she'd rather skip and just eat snacks instead. First off, that filly with the stitched up mouth. That was wicked awesome!

She included one for Treasure Hunter, too; given the day's experiences, she'd thought it would be nice to make sure he had a card from her. She really did want to be friends with him!
