He really wasn't getting at where she was going with this, but went along anyways. At least they were talking and that was better than silence. "Yyeah." He slowly answered. It was the purpose of leaving in golems that day, and he had collected a fair number of minipets to work on.

He stood up, mainly because his knees were starting to hurt, and he watched her move to another plant. "O-kay. Why? If you needed a specific type of minipet to experiment with, I could have gave you one of mine." He really wasn't sure why this was even being brought up to be honest or why she would go through all the trouble.

She moved into position with the foliage, bent over at her waist for a close shot, "because I didn't want it for an experiment." Click click went the shutter again as she moved along to capture her subject at various angles. "I kind of hoped for a pet."

"OH. Right." He forgot people tended to do that sometimes. He knew a few hunters who had personal minipets, but he never bothered. While he loved animals and wished he could get a cat or a dog, minipets to him were something unnatural. They were parasites made of the fear they were hoping to destroy for good, and spending much of his time in the life labs had solidified that idea even further that minipets were just experimental materials. They were test subjects without the guilt of hurting normal animals like mice or rabbits.
Still, some people on the island missed their pets and gave in to entertaining a minipet as as a substitute. "What sort of pet did you want to hatch?" Then, with more concern. "Are you...lonely?"

"I was hoping for a bird, seeing as it was an egg," she took one last picture. "I was half-right I suppose," she smirked playfully. The smirk died as quickly as it had shown itself. "Just what is that supposed to mean?" She clipped defensively at his questioning her loneliness - not that she was.

Yup. Just as he assumed. The only way this night could go bad was because of his mouth.
Eyes wide, he held up his hands. "Just that people tend to get pets when they are lonely and didn't know if you were, and I was worried since we spend a lot of time working apart." He quickly stated.

He lowered his hands. "No. I'm already forced to bond with Saliva. I don't need another fear creature to keep me company." He informed her. "I mean...you can if you want. It's just, to me, they aren't real. They are just ......bugs infecting this place. I don't see them as healthy either." He hoped she wouldn't be upset with him.
"That doesn't mean I wouldn't want a real pet on the island. I start to miss my parent's cat sometimes. Maybe even a dog." He looked up at her, unsure. "Can we not fight?"

"The problem is you can't have a dog or cat on the island... mini's are the best we could ever hope for?" She looked more sad than mad for just a moment. "Calli isn't a bug. Yes she's made of fear. But. Fear is something us as humans will always have and need for our survival."
She looked tired.
"I'm sorry I even brought her up."

He looked sad in turn.
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. It was like every time he opened his mouth, he just upset her.
"Sorry. I should have kept my mouth shut." He shouldn't have even said anything.
"I just...like to clearly keep the two things separate. I grew up with pets. I don't like putting minipets in the same realm as them, and I don't want to give my love and attention to something made of Fear. I don't think it deserves that." He looked around. It was quiet here, but beautiful.
"I hate those creatures. Anything made of Fear. I don't want to get attached to one. To me, they are just for experimentation."
He looked back at her. "If I'm lonely, I can just pet you." He said, but didn't dare pet her head. He was just trying to salvage the day and hopefully make it to dinner without her walking away.

"Well, I care about her so just quit talking about her like that." She avoided even looking at him right now. She pretended there was something else to photograph and began to walk away with camera at the ready.

He wanted to be angry just because she was angry at him, but shouting matches on exclusive rooftops would only result in last minute dinner arrangements, and considering it was Valentine's Day, he doubted many places would even have anything.
Following after, he hesitated, wondering if he should give her space, but being ignored was even worse. He moved, grabbing her wrist. "Rin, please. I'm sorry, but I work in the labs. You know what that means. I have a mindset. That doesn't mean I'm going to go after Collie. If it's important to you, then it's important. I still want to hear about it."

"I work in the labs too," she spat as she attempted to rip her wrist from his grasp. "I just... you asked if I liked birds and Calli is my bird, okay?!"
She was clearly hurt by the whole thing as she rounded on him a bit, "I don't give a single tiny <********> why you think she's worthless vermin. Not one."
