"No!" She squeaked quietly, seeming mortified when he just sloshed right into the water. Fish lived in there! It would be all slimy, it wasn't right for him to go right in. She pulled her fan up to her face again, flapping it furiously as she stared at him with wide eyes. There wasn't much she could do to stop him, that would mean standing up to him, but what if he asked her to come in the nasty fish water with him? She couldn't do that, not a chance.
What made a carp a carp? He was standing in fishy water and that's all he had to say? Nearly hyperventilating, she managed to whimper, "Big mouthes, barbels." She didn't like those big nasty carp that some people caught fishing in the lakes, but these were different ones, koi carp, like you would keep in a garden pond. Someday she'd ask Teagan to build her a garden pond, then she would have to come to the park to watch them. Maybe then she'd be safe from such strange people.

The boy froze at the wrod no, looking cluelessly. Slimey and messy weren't a problem for Keanu. He'd crawl under a deck to go retrieve a ball, or run headlong into a bog if someone told him there was a muck monster to be fought. Sure, he was clean at the end of the day, he knew what personal hygeine was, but it didn't apply to his missions. If he did care about such things he certainly wouldn't have been in those martial arts classes as often as he was, because frankly no one came out of those smelling like a flower. He could clean himself up later and that's what mattered. The here and nows current state didn't bother him. "What..? Is there a dangerous muck monsters? Don't worry it won't hurt me." Came the rather oblivious reply from the boy. Because that could be the only reason she worried about him being in the water.
Yes, it certainly had to be a monster the way she seemed to be wigging out. So the fish has big mouths and barbels. What ever those were. He peered at the water to attempt to get an idea of it, but sadly his pressence his pressence in the water had shoo'd any away. Of course in his mind that registered as 'the monster must be coming out.' Finally! A time to test his newly learned fighting techniques from the classes. He quickly glanced around at the shadowy water trying to spot any dark patches that might suggest where the monster was sneaking up at him from. "The monster scared away all the carp didn't it, but don't worry! I'll fight it, and it won't bother anyone anymore!"

Liang's cheeks heated up as she watched the older boy slosh around. "No, no monst- Yes, monster. Scary one." She whimpered, deciding that maybe if he thought she was afraid of this so called 'muck monster' he wouldn't ask her to come in. This was distgusting. No, worse than disgusting. This boy was obviously crazy. "Why you want to find monster so bad?" She inquired, peeking out a bit from behind her fan. Maybe there was some silver lining to this otherwhise gross cloud of swamp gas. Alright, so she was overreacting. It was a nice clean park pond, not a nasty swamp, but it could be just as bad.

No monsters? Then there was one? she was being a bit confusing, but she ended up continuing with the monster story, thus he deemed is the true one. He liked that idea more anyway. "Because then I can fight the bad monster and make it leave everyone alone, I don't want it ti hurt people or the fish." He replied simply, briefly looking at her while he spoke before returning to hunting the 'beast.' "You wouldn't want to be attacked by a monster while looking at the fish, so I want to make sure something like that never happens." He added hoping the clarification aided in the explaination. With that said he likely upset her more by going in deeper to see if he could spot it further ahead. Though even there the thing still eluded him. Alas, such things had to exist if other things from the book did. It was simple logic. Who was to say there couldn't be a water monster in the pond in the park? Maybe no one fought it off yet. Keanu's logic made perfect sense to him. Even if the rest of the world though he was a Grade A nutcase.

The girl sighed, bringing her wings close around herself, "No, I don't want be attacked," she agreed, making a mental note that this particular boy seemed to like being a hero. That wasn't all bad, it was actually quiet admirable. He'd probably make a good husband, for someone else of course. He was strong and sweet, and although a bit brash, his intentions seemed good. It was a little strange for a toddler to be analyzing boys the way she did, but it was just the way she thought. He seemed like a proper gentlemen, and that put him down as a good person in her books. Even if he was covered in scum.

Keanu might have been flattered by her thoughts, if he could read minds. All the qualities she had listed as were something he strived to be the utter livingimage of, and besides... it would prove that Paxton's earlier claim on him was wrong. That alone would make the boy positively beam, for that was another of his goals. Along with exploring the world, being a hero, and becoming best friends with his dragon. Keanu believe that aiming high was a good thing, or that his goals where modest wishes. One or the other, anyone was free to decide for him. It was probably too bad that Liang was getting to see Keanu a mess. Normally he might rip his clothes a bit, but he wasn't a pigsty romping in muck unless there was something to attract his attention to it there. Origionally the fish, then the monster. He had a good reason to play in the 'filth' at the moment.
"Exactly. That's why someone must stand up to the monster before it attacks someone like you." Was the definite reply. He paused as he noted a moving shadow in the water before diving at it. There was nothing there though. In fact the shadow had been caused by something briefly passing overhead, though now he must have looked far more messy than before. Well... There went a few of his points. "...it got away, but I know it's here somewhere..."

She nodded warily, starting to believe despite herself that he actually saw a monster. After all, a smart boy like that wouldn't go around wasting his time, right? Maybe he knew something she didn't know. "Why look for monsters and myths?" She ventured, setting her fan down in her lap as she watched him. This could get interesting. He reminded her of those knights in shining armor on television. Maybe that was why, didn't they always go around slaying dragons and saving princesses? Except she wasn't a princess.

He continued to move about hunting for the shadow that seemed to have dissapeared again, eyes darting to and fro against the water. "Well because they must exist, and if they exist some of them are bad. Then they need to be stopped. Monsters can't be allowed to hurt anyone, heros are supposed to protect people from them so they can't. That's why I need to look for them everywhere I go." He replied, sur as ever in his words as he continued to wade in the water. It seemed the monster had run back into whatever hole it lived in, which meant he could either try to go after it like the hero Beowulf had when going through the long tunnel to chase the beast that plagued King Hrothgar, or to wait until he felt safe again.
Seeing as he'd only managed to hold his breath a short time before, the latter seemed the smarter should, and he started back to the shore constantly looking over his shoulder. "It's hiding way at the bottom... I'll have to wait for it to come back up to get it." He murmured, both ears laying flat against his head. If there was one thing Keanu truly disliked, it was bad monsters who would hurt things.

Liang frowned, thinking around to a better idea than just waiting for it to sneak up and maybe even hurt him. "Why not try to step on it?" She said blunty, figuring that if he could still stand up in the water then surely he could put his feet down far enough to try and stomp on the monster. It seemed like a solid plan for her, even if it was a bit unelegant.

"Because monsters live in deep caves." He replied, eyeing the water cautiously. "They're crafty like that. They wait until someone isn't expecting it then jump out and get you." He paused a moment. "Well some are like that. There are other kinds that just come at you head on, but this one seems like it's smarter than to do just that." He shifted his wait lightly before moving over to plop down on the bank to wait. "It will come out though, and when it does I'll get it. No monster is going to get the jump on me!" He called as if challenging the thing to try.

Monsters hid in dark caves? Dark caves like the closet? Like her brother's endless pit of a dark cloest? Suddenly she bristled up, shuddering her wings without the rest of her body. Monsters were usually really scary, weren't they? She didn't want to run into one when she was walking around the house by herself, maybe she should ask Keanu to come over and hunt down any that happened to be hiding there. "Just caves?" She asked cautiously, not entirely sure she wanted to hear the answer. At least he had come out of the fish water, for now at any rate.

"Oh not just caves." He shook his head. Oh no, mountains, forests, the habitats varied greatly, well according to the book he read anyway. "They can be just about anywhere really, they've learned to adapt quite well to the changing environment." One of the few topics that Keanu knew well enough to hold slight authority(if you want to call it that) on, or at least have an opinion that made some sense.
Sadly he was oblivious to the fact he'd said the opposite of what Liang wanted to hear, but what could be done. To Keanu they had to be just about anywhere, why else would he need to be so prepared for them? This pond among the koi, that dark creepy forest, or maybe even the closet. Hadn't his mum once made the mistake of saying that a closet monster took bad kids away as a joke? No wait, that was Issale threatening Keanu to get out of his room. The point was that now Keanu was also hunting the acclaimed 'closet monster'. "This one time Issale told me there's a monster in closets. It only takes the bad kids away to it's lair though, so I don't think you'd need to worry. Still, even the bad kids don't deserve that, so one day I'm going to beat it!"

At the mention that monsters could be just about anywhere Liang turned even more blue than she already was, looking for a moment as if she were going to pass out. That meant that not only were there cave and closet monsters like he said, there could be lawn monsters and tea house monsters and all kinds of scary things. Without noticing it, she had started to whimper, tears welling up in her eyes. She wasn't ever going to be safe, even if he was a great hero Keanu would never be able to kill them all. And if the closet monsters only took bad kids, why did it scare her so much? What if she did something bad? She knew she was a good girl but if she did something bad maybe the monster would make a mistake and think she was a bad girl.

Keanu had never feared the monsters because they were his foe. Fearing your enemy would make you unable to fight them with all your might. He had to be strict with himself on such matters, and was proud to say any of them could have jumped out at him at any time and he wouldn't be afraid. Yes, heros were never afraid. They were calm and ready for anything, that was him. That was what he had to be. Sadly, he wasn't ready for what came next.
Tears were something of a weakness for the boy, possibly brought on by the feeling that things needed to be protected. Thus when the younger girl whimpered and the signs of a full out stream of tears threatened her features the boy was shocked into a moment of silence. How best to react to that, and why was she crying? The reason slowly dawned on him followed by an attmept to figure out what might calm the problem. "Ah but... I said I'd make sure they were taken care of so no one would be hurt, like you Miss Liang, so... So don't cry." It likely wouldn't do any good, but he didn't have much more that seemed to possible work. "I'll rptoect you from them, so don't worry!"

Liang sniffled a bit and quickly swung her fan back in front of her face, having just realized he could see her. She nodded quickly, then looked at him curiously with wide eyes. "Bu- But," she started, her voice still a bit choked in her throat as she tried to keep herself from crying, "You can't get them by yourself. Do other people?" She was glad that he wanted to protect her, or all people, but what about the other people? Ones that didn't know someone like Keanu. Were they just supposed to fight for themselves?
