His eyes widened, he mouthed of course, looked down as a burning sensation crossed his features and waited for it to subside. He remembers the first time this happened, and the drop in his stomach he was surprised by, because it shouldn't have mattered. Yet, it was a truthful portent. This time, his heart was pounding instead, he was a little dizzy, and he was glad - glad! that they would have a brood between them, and he felt like the Motherfather had given him another chance, and he was thankful - he going to prove his worth to Her and...her. His head lifted, and he smiled at Vexed.
"I am sorry for the inconvenience," he started, but stopped, and his mind raced to piece together exactly what he meant to express. "But - um, I can't think of anyone else I would love to have children with. I'm really happy. Thanks - and sorry - but thank you." His smile grew, a little desperately, but very genuinely. He was happy and he hoped it showed.

And there was the gentle buck, so calming, so thoughtful. Every emotion transparent on his face.
And there was the relief, as her heartbeat finally slowed, and she could smile. And she did smile.
This was not love, this was contentment, and contentment was wonderful. They would always be friends, and more from time to time.
There was only one problem.
“I guess we’ll have to tell them.”

This was a Very Important Meeting, she had emphasised. Very Important. And so Be Mine and all her children gathered under the feather tree, still and alert, all attention.
“Your grandfather and I have something to tell you,” she began...
...but the pressure of so many earnest eyes was greater than she imagined, and her nerve failed her. She coughed and nudged Filament instead.

"Uh -" he cleared his throat, swallowed, and tried to keep eye contact with their collection of youngsters. "Um, uh…" There was just no round-about way to say this.
"Weeeee are - we're going to have children together. It wasn't planned!" Filament disclaimed, then flushed. "It was - uh, it just happened, so they're on their way, so - so it's happening. That's all."

Just as they’d expected, the collective sounds of despair and mild horror filled the clearing.
“...burned into my mind forever!”
“- not that old, but still -”
“- grandparents!!!”
And in the midst of gasps and protest, their eyes met and they exchanged little smiles, that were sheepish, but not displeased.
