Remi nodded slowly and thoughtfully Can't argue that, he conceded reluctantly. Indeed, cavalry could be devastating on the battlefield. It was a matter of historical record. Seemed like there wasn't a way to get out of this gracefully. Lochlan was more than a "snarky beastie," however- he was a giant, homicidal slab of horsemeat and Rem had an uncomfortable feeling this was going to end badly for him. "And...When were you wanting to do this, exactly?" he tried to keep his unease out of his tone, but it was all too easy to imagine being trampled under dinnerplate-sized hooves.

Ashtiel Arykosa No worries! Life happens.
Wolves. Right. That was a fair point. At the mention, concern fluttered uncomfortably in the pit of her stomach; while mounted combat might prove safer for her, what of Verena? Would Corinne's added weight hinder Verena's speed and strength? It was definetly worrisome, and once more, Corinne found she wasn't sold on the idea...But after a moment of panic, she reminded herself that this is why she needed to join this group; to train. It would be difficult at first, but with some practice, she knew she and Verena would excel, and they would be safer for her. They could survive this coming war. Remi voiced her next question before she could; when did they start? Corinne nodded, looking expectantly to Soibhan.
Verena, oblivious to the discussion, had focused her attention on the smaller buck. She snorted and jerked her head back as he sprung toward her, eyes wide behind her mask as she stared him down. She was stiff and still, but relaxed visibly as he pranced and baited. She didn't hesitate to accept, lowering her head so that they were at eye level, and prodded at him with her nose. She snorted, shaking her head, and hopped to the side, body low. She stared at him a moment, and then lurched to the side a second time, indicating she wanted to engage in a game of chase.

Soibhan grinned at Remi, in such a way that told him immediately he wasn't going to enjoy what was about to happen. Using two fingers, she let out a piercing whistle that cut through the yard like a gunshot. Bael stopped his play just long enough to twitch his ears, but then he obliged Verena and shot off, stealing the role of "chased" as if he could outrun the full grown doe. They waited only moments before the distinct clop-clop of hooves on cobblestones sounded, followed quickly by the massive dark gray stallion Soibhan had saved from an unsure fate on the auction block. The beast tossed his head upon seeing her and stopped at her side, nosing her face and standing almost protectively over her. She grabbed the massive head and rubbed the stallion's cheeks, all but cooing at him. "Good lad. Dunno why Remi thinks yer so scary," she murmured, giving said man another grin, her eyes glinting. Lochlan turned and spotted the man, his neck arching as he blew an unhappy snort.

Remi's jaw clenched and his lips set in a grim line as he eyed the stallion. "Can't bloody imagine," he muttered under his breath. Still he wasn't the sort to run from a challenge, and squared his shoulders. There was no way this was going to end well for him. Either he'd be proven right and take a nasty fall or be proven wrong and look like an idiot. But the obvious disapproval in the stallion's eyes left him fairly convinced that his original idea was a good one. The horse did not like him, did not like anyone but Soi, and was pushing a ton of horseflesh: easily lethal. "Cori, lad, I need a favor," he said, reaching into the hood of his cloak to retrieve Peu, the tiny golden mouse who seemed more than a little confused by this development. Ordinarily he was allowed to remain in there indefinitely, and it was bright out here. Remi held the tiny creature loosely in his tanned and scarred fingers and held his hand out to Cori. "Look after my small friend here?" he requested quietly. Sensing his master's discomfort, Beau returned from whatever had distracted him from chasing Bael around and came to sit on Remi's foot with a canine whumph.

Verena snorted, and without a second glance Corinne's way, bounded off after Bael. Taking his age and length of stride into account, she slowed her speed, nipping at the air near his tail. She knew she could catch him easily, but where was the fun in that?
Corinne watched Verena run off, before returning her attention to Soibhan and Remi. Brow raised, the tall woman nearly had to tip her head back to gaze up at the massive beast that stood before them now - could it realistically be called a horse? Never had she seen one so large. Amused - and glad for Verena's smaller size - Corinne shot Remi a smile, lips pinched in an attempt to stifle her laughter. She'd glanced back at Soibhan and the horse, but her attention was quickly redirected back at Remi at the sound of her name - or rather, her alias.
"Um....sure?" Had he always had the mouse? She didn't recall seeing or hearing of him when she'd met Remi. A new addition? Regardless, didn't matter; reaching out, she accepted the mouse, curling her hands around the small creature. With Peu in hand, she stepped back, standing far back enough to avoid flailing hooves, should Remi anger the horse.
