It was slow work, the ice making the job that much more difficult. The better part of the day was gone when Azriel wiped his brow and inspected the latest removal.
"I can feel a draft. I think if we get one more of the big boulders to move we will be able to slip through," he announced, turning to look to Isambard.

Isambard placed his hands on his hips and nodded.
"Come on men, let's get it moved." He gestured for them to all put their efforts into their last obstacle. "Cyrus, are you ready? When you say it's safe we'll all proceed through."

Cyrus merely grunted his reply to Isambard. Nearly all of his concentration was on keeping the mountain as it was and it was proving to not be an easy task. The great stone beast was fighting him with each piece they removed.

Azriel nodded in agreement with Isambard and joined his cheering as he worked with the others. The boulder was stubborn, but their perseverance paid off. The boulder shifted slightly, then with another mighty heave it slipped. Several of the other pieces tumbled after it, but the arch above held fast.

Cyrus closed his eyes as he took the full weight of the mountain above. He wanted to tell them to hurry, but he couldn't get anything out through his strain.

Isambard watched Cyrus as the boulder rolled away and noted the strain on his face.
"Everyone through, now." he said urgently, urging Talia through first and then the rest of them. He followed through after them and then turned back to Cyrus. "We're through." He shouted, keeping his eyes on his servant.

Cyrus cracked his eyes and saw they were indeed through the opening. Very carefully, he began to release his hold on the mountain, allowing a few pieces to slip into the crack. When he had let go enough, he made his way through after his companions, then he turned back towards the opening. With another gradual release of power, the mountain gave an ominous groan and a bit of snow slipped down, but then everything held its position.
"I believe it will hold," he said breathlessly as he turned and bowed to Isambard. His legs felt like jelly, but he was not about to admit to any weakness.

Isambard watched rather nervously as Cyrus released his hold on the mountain. The large djinn was a servant but he was a loyal one, the closest thing to a friend that Isambard might have. Isambard was also nervous about their party, if the tunnel caved it might cut off their way back, not what he wanted especially if faced with a village full of corpses. The mountain groaned and Isambard found himself holding his breath as he and the rest of them waited for it to settle. He watched Cyrus as he emerged and said nothing about the fact that he looked worn out.
“Excellent job Cyrus, perhaps if we are able to help the community they might have an idea of how to secure it. They are miners after all.”

Cyrus nodded to Isambard as he rested his hands on his hips and forced himself to take deep, slow breaths. He was entirely out of shape, he decided.

Azriel watched the djinn with a healthy amount of respect, then looked around to the others. They were all tired, but it would not be wise to stop inside the cave for long.
"If they have the supplies, we could take care of it," he said to Isambard. "I think we should keep moving forward and get away from this part of the mountain, just in case."

Isambard would agree with Azriel’s thoughts they did not want to stand around if there was the risk that some of the mountain come down.
“Yes, very good point, we should move on and quickly.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out the map, they were through the tunnel and so the village should be down and just through the trees. “This way.” He said with authority pointing down the path that was a little better kept than the ones that led up to the tunnel. As they made their way along the snow covered paths Isambard spotted something off in the distance.
“Hah, there, some houses. Come on, we’re nearly there.”
