Genesis touched her feet lightly to the ground of fae clearing. She did a quick and cautious walk around, her hand went beneath her cloak to grab her sword handle, there was no telling where was safe. Once she determined that the area was safe she looked over to the other pae, although she still remained on edge all the same. "What nature of wood did your theory involve?" Genesis questioned him as she touched her hand to the bark of the closest tree to her location. She then circled, looking for fallen branches. She could easily shape a piece of wood into a staff with her sword... but could she really cut down one of these trees for a theory with hardly any foundation other then the wood being magical? How would she even know if it was right... if she stopped searching for the staff thinking she had one and it didn't work would she have failed the guardians once again. Genesis bit her lip, uncertain. Try out this theory and then dialogue with the other squires... that was all she could do.

Kurt landed and circled the other direction from his young companion. Pulling out his knife, he held it firm in his right hand as his left touched the trees as he passed them. Reaching up he touched a long branch reaching over into the clearing proper. "I thought a branch from a living tree that reached into the clearing area. Even one branch would make a good strong rod." The idea of taking for the sake of taking didn't exactly sit well with him; however, if it was for protection and they were kind about it, it should be okay.
He offered, in case she had the same misgivings, "Taking one or two wouldn't hurt the tree terribly, certainly wouldn't kill it." Even one long branch could make two rods, the notice didn't say how much needed to be taken.
The magic of this place still felt so real, it had to be special. With no swords, a place like this only held its wood. That was the only thing he could see to take from it and this place was special.

Genesis watched him as he moved around, talking. She looked to the branches. Surely these magical trees would be more protected lest everyone be cutting them down to harness the magic. Even if they did not hurt the tree... what would keep the rest of the world from hurting it if they were not protected. "Perhaps you are valid, however if these trees are magical, is there nothing that guards them?" Genesis proposed her next line of thinking to him now that they were less concerned about fully chopping down a tree. "Perhaps it would be best if you retrieved a branch for us both, and I were to watch your back?" Genesis could protect him if need be, that was something she was skilled at. She did not feel completely at ease about this.

Kurt thought of his adopted sister again as he looked at the branches, "This area is important to the Fea, I am sure the protect it. If we are lucky no one is on duty". He knew they were powerful, and if they were all like Morena, tricky.
Considering the branches he found one he liked. It was long, straight and about an inch in diameter. Gripping the handle of the knife he gave his agreement, "Alright" He didn't hesitate, raising the knife and sawing off the branch at its base. Under his breath the apologized and thanked the tree. It was a magical area, if the tree had a spirit he wanted to make sure his actions didn't seen malicious.
With the branch freed from its tree, Kurt worked quickly to strip the leaves and cut the branch in half. If there was trouble, he was waiting no time completing the task.

Genesis watched him for a moment, and then turned to keep her eye on the surrounding. Every once in a while she would turn back in case the tree protected itself. It seemed like he worked quickly enough. As soon as he was done, Genesis gave her a nod of her head. "Come, make haste. We can take intermission away from here. I do not like the thought of lingering." Genesis announced in a loud whisper. As she waited for him to take leave, she'd follow behind him this time, still protecting him until they had put some distance between themselves and the clearing. Genesis did not feel as if the guardians would ask her to cut wood from the tree... but they didn't ask her to do that they asked her to find a wooden staff. In her stomach it did not feel right, but it was done.

He wasn't as bothered but knew better than to stand around after kicking a hornet nest. Nodding, the angel didn't argue. Instead, he took off from where he stood. "Right."
Going up high enough that he could see the whole of the clearing easily, he hovered to be sure she got out safely. Just as happy to be out of there as she was, the angel schooled himself not to be hasty.

Once they were out, Genesis attempted to take the lead again. They traveled for a little while longer, not quite to the mountain, but some distance between the clearing when she stopped and dropped into the forest for some rest and protection from the elements. "We still have a while to go before this place of old..." It was fairly high up the mountain, even colder then it was down here, she was certain. "You should rest and warm up as best you can if you plan on continuing." Genesis had to raise her voice to talk over the chilly wind, but she felt safer doing so now that they were a ways away. "May I see the other half?" Genesis asked him when they had both landed. She would work on carving hers while she rested.

Kurt allowed her to lead, she knew where she was going far more then he did. So as she stopped, he was able to keep with her and land a short distance from her. Looking up to the mountain, he could only imagine the hike to come. Even budded up as he was with emergency supplies from the Isle, he couldn't help but shiver.
Looking at her when she said 'if he planned on continuing he told her, "I am fine, I have warm clothes," He said the word like it was odd to him, indeed it was, "And I have lots of rough woven alpaca fibers in the pack should we need more warmth. No sweaters but it can be packed in clothing or hoods for extra warmth." He patted the sheet pack on his back. The stuff was intended for bartering but if it would help either, using it was no trouble.
Nodding he handed her over her half of the branch. He'd cleaned off most of the leaves, but kept a sprout on both halves, it just seemed lucky to have green still on the object.

Genesis nodded her head at his offering, she would take him up on it if it was necessary, for now she was alright. "This is a generous offer," she said somewhat more warmly then her previous words with him. It was only luck that she would be sent to retrieve something up in the mountains during its coldest season. Genesis turned the branch over in her hands several times and then walked over to one of the other trees to lean against it. She wasn't going to sleep, but the rest would still benefit her. Instead, she reached for her pack and pulled out some trail food and a water canteen. Genesis had always been intrigued by history and knew there was much to reap from it, but many of these things were not known by the public and not supposed to be known so it made it difficult for Genesis to begin to converse with someone who was not a squire. So the teen remained silent while she worked on her tiny meal.

Kurt took a seat on the back of a tipped over tree. Pulling his pack around, he placed the rod into the alpaca fibers. Beyond that he had brought jerky and a canteen of his own. Those items were nestled in the same area. Retrieving his rations, he settles for a quick bite.
It seemed his rapport with the younger angel had started to improve. Not wanting to ruin it, he stayed silent. Instead, as he ate, he looked up to the mountain. Wouldn't take long up there before flying wasn't an option.

Genesis allowed for herself to rest long enough to recover strength before she stood up. "Are you ready?" she hoped he was certain about whatever answer he gave. If he lied to her they would have to pay the price further up the mountain. Genesis tucked away the stick and the rest of her supplies and looked up above the canopy... it was slightly warmer down here beneath its insulation and it was still cold. She didn't like the idea of traveling in these sorts of conditions, but there was no telling if it would get worse if they had waited longer. Genesis could only hope they were not completely blinded up there.

Kurt stood up when she asked if he was ready, "I am." He was as certain of himself as he could be. With what he brought and the clothes he had as emergency supplies, there was no way for him to be more ready then he was. As he moved off his log, he rustled his wings and looked upward.
"We could probably fly a short ways, but that won't last long, thinner colder air." He offered what he believed to be true. Certainly they would have an easier time then say a demon or Fae would given their feathers. What isolation they would provide would only go so far.
Finishing wrapping his pack back up and secured around his shoulders has it had been, he stepped off the ground allowing his wings to carry him into a hover. Without knowing how far they had to climb, he was eager to get a there and back before dark.

Genesis nodded her head in agreement, though she didn't believe they'd even make it as far as the air being too thin to fly. With the weather being how it was, she anticipated having to start walking sooner then that, but she did not share her concerns. "Off we go then," Genesis said as she jumped up and began to pick up altitude over the tree. She pushed onward towards the mountain, as they got closer to the mountain the chilly wind began to push her around, her more so then him because of her smaller stature. It almost felt like wearing clothes did her no good the way the wind seemed to bite right through it, but some protection had to be better then none. When the wind began to become too much Genesis began to drop altitude. "We're going to have to walk from here!" Genesis shouted over the wind.

Kurt followed behind her, bring a arm up to try and shield his face from the bitter wind as best he could. Guardians curse this wind and cold! Much like his companion the cold seemed to find its way into his clothes leaving them lacking for the warmth he wanted.
As he flew he went with the wind as much as against it, flying the direction it pushed him until he could get out of the stream. It took less energy to go with the wind and he knew to drop or go higher to avoid a current.
There was no argument when she said they needed to walk. He might have been able to get a little father but not by much. Lowering, he got to the highest point of ground he could. Planting his feet in the snow he said something under his breath much like 'all my life.' this was really the first time he had seen snow and he lived on the isle when it was all floating.
As soon as he he was landed, he tucked his wings close to his body with his pack of warm fibers helping to keep the chill off the ext remedies.
