The stallion running the shop looked to be probably close to a billion years old. His skin was wrinkled and his mane was salt and pepper colored. But the shard green eyes watched the pirate foal from the back of the shop as he perused the wares in front of him.

"Hey there kiddo, what do you happen to be looking for?" he voice was the only thing about him that was untouched by age; it still carried the robust timbre or youth.

Haha no problem! It's not often I get to play lots of different characters at once!

Upon noticing that it was an elder phony that called out to him, Treasure Hunter raised his voice in-case the stallion couldn't hear quite clearly. Its voice, surprisingly, seem fit for a king. "Ahoy! ye landlubberrr!" he shouted back, and he stood beside the bag of dried cranberries. "Aye. This be what the mare needs. Give me some of this."

Blue Eyed Melloon

The stallion was taken aback by how confident the foal spoke. His voice didn't waver, and he didn't seem nervous at all! On top of that, he called him a 'landlubber', whatever that was.

"Dried cranberries eh?" he said, picking up a paper bag from a trunk next to his hooves and moving to the table. He placed the scoop in his mouth, and dug out three large scoopfulls to put into the bag. Then he rolled the top, and set it down on the ground.

"That'll be ten bits." he said, grinning toothily. Just because he was a confident foal, didn't make him a money-savvy one.

"Bilge rat!" he screamed. What did the old stallion take him for? He may be small but no one knew about the value of bits more than Treasure Hunter. He was in fact the stingiest one of all foals out there when it comes to spending.

"Three scoops of dried cranberries for ten bits? Ye out of yer mind, ol' landlubber?" The young foal puffed out his chest and waved an angry hoof. "Ye ought to walk the plank trying to swindle extra bits out of me!"

He certainly wasn't ready for the second outburst that came from below his eye-level.

"Look kid, I dunno exactly what you are saying, but I don't take kindly to be insulted. And I ain't swindling nophony!" He glared at the precocious little pirate, tapping a forehoof on the ground. Kid did seem to know the value of money after all.

"Alright alright kid. How about eight bits for the lot?" he offered, pushing to bag toward the foal.

He knew the old stallion was trying to make a living. but at the price he had uttered, it was unacceptable. Even-though Candy had included extra bits for him to get all the ingredients she needed, he was still being stingy about it.

"Ye just spoke a lie, sir" and he tapped his forehoof like the shopkeeper had done. "Ye arr trying to sell me something for more than what it's worth. Jus' because ye had been living longer than me doesn't mean ye can call out such an absurd price."

Treasure Hunter opened the paper bag and pushed it gently back at the stallion. "Six bits," he called out with a stern tone. "Or ye can add two scoops in here and I shall pay the eight bits."

Now it was the shopkeeper's turn to look appalled. Five scoops for eight bits!? This kid was crazy!

...Or a good haggler. The stallion sighed, rubbing his mane back with his hoof. He was certainly not going to budge. Perhaps he had completely misjudged the foal.

"Well....alright kid. You got me. Seems you are a lot more hardheaded then you look." He slid the bag to Treasure's hooves. "Six bits it is then. But don't be telling nophony about how I gave you such a low price! Can't have folks thinking I'm going soft after all these years." He gave Treasure a gruff grin and wink.

A smile spread across Treasure Hunter's face as he had finished haggling before buying the berries. This old stallion was a true salesman. Only pushovers would pay the full amount without doing anything about it.

"You're a great man." He saluted him. "It's a pleasure doing business with ye." Quickly, he put his hoof inside his saddlebag and took out bits one at a time until there were six of them to be seen. "Your secret is safe with me!" he winked back, and paid for the bag of berries.

After he had put the berries inside his bag, he turned back to the shopkeeper and politely said "May your business prosper!" and took off to gather the rest of the ingredients from the list.

The grizzled shopkeeper took his bits and waved the colt out, muttering to himself about going soft on the kid. But with money in hoof, he couldn't complain too loudly.

A couple of doors down there was a bakery supply store. This shopkeeper was a bit nicer, a plump mare with pigtails busily chasing her two young foals around the store, shouting something about "eating the product". They giggled and scampered away to the back, leaving the harassed mare to attend to the shop, which was lined with rows of baking ingredients organized in a very specific manner. Barrels of flour and sugar were on one side, while opposite that were baskets of different kinds of nuts. Sweet things the mare kept near the counter, to deter those who might want to taste test before buying.

Treasure Hunter made sure the saddlebag was closed and crossed off the cranberries from the short list. He checked to see what remained and waved the stallion goodbye.

The shop next to it was filled with flowers of all colours. He snorted and shook his head at the phonies taking their time to find the perfect bouquet. He did not understand why some would invest in flowers when they know it will wilt in a few days time. Treasure Hunter caught a whiff of the flowers and he scrunched his nose. To him the flowers' aroma is worse than the smell of spoiled meat.

The shop beside that one didn't help out at all either. It was filled with old and used books. He made a mental note to visit it again in case there are treasure maps or books about lost treasure somewhere hidden between the countless shelves stuffed full of books.

The little pirate kept strolling past shops and wandered upon one that looked like it was selling baking supplies. He peeked through the window and noticed a mare with pigtails. She was mouthing something he could not hear while two foals ran by and disappeared into another room. The barrels, however, seemed to be filled with finely sifted grains. He looked at his list again. "Eggs, sugar, mac.. maca.. macademma nuts, white chocolate chips."

He wasn't sure what those nuts were and could barely pronounce it. Since he saw something that looked like sugar and nuts, he left the window alone and went on inside.

The bell above the door tinkled as Treasure Hunter walked in. The mare looked over to the foal, noting how lovely his mane was before going into her shpeal.

"Welcome to Sweet Bargains!" she said with automatic clarity. "We sell all kinds of baking goods here! What can I get for you?" The door behind her opened, and two pairs of eyes peeked out from the other room. But when their mother turned just barely to look at them, the door quickly shut with a click.

Treasure Hunter noticed that it was almost a common sight to see a little ringing bell attached to the door whenever he walked into a food shop.

He saw the little foals peek from behind a polished door right at him before they disappeared again. "Ahoy," he greeted the mare with a pleasant tone. The place was stocked with most of what he needed. "Sweet Bargains ye say? Does that mean I can get a bag of sugar for cheap?" Getting a discount off of baking goods sounds wonderful right now. That way he could help Candy save some more bits instead of spending most of it.

He started to browse around the shop staring at the shelves and looking inside the barrels to see if there were any white chocolate chips to be found.

The shopkeeper smiled and nodded. "Sure can! I've got sugars, flours, chips and nuts of all shapes and sizes!" She came form behind the counter and over to the foal.

"You say you need a bag of sugar?" She picked a plastic bag from above the barrel and attached it to the spout at the bottom of the container. She switched the faucet on, and watched the bag critically, counting down from twelve. Then she carefully turned off the faucet and put a tie around the top of the bag.

"Alright, so this is gonna three bits. You need anything else?" She kept her tone sweet.

The sugar trinkled into the plastic bag and surely after a blink of an eye, turned into a bagful. It seemed like he may have asked for too much. Without doubt, the little pirate decided to try and haggle again. "Three bits? If I buy more, would i be able to get it at a lower price?" He eyeballed the little brown tear-shaped sweets near the counter. "How about some of these...
chocolate chips? It's on me list." Hopefully those were the ones. "Not a lot. Maybe.. 3/4 full?" He turned and faced the mare. "The last one is a toughie. I don't know what they are."
