Ara glanced at the books in Lithian’s arms, just now noticing the pile. She flushed as remembered the whole reason they were up here. She was suppose to be finding books to study with. “Ah, Lithian, I’m sorry.” She sat the map gently down and moved to relieve him of the books he had gathered for you. “Thank you…” She trailed off as she glanced back at the map. “But what if we’re not allowed to take it out? I’m really curious about it. Do you think it has to do with something on Aisko?” she asked excitedly, knowing that they would both soon be heading there.
“I guess you’re right, though. Taking it without asking would be wrong.” She gestured towards the map, hoping Lithian wouldn’t mind carrying it now that she had the books piled up into her arms, including the one she had discarded earlier when the map had caught her attention.

“You don’t…have to…” Lithian trailed off, flushing as Ara took the books from him. “It’s no trouble,” he hastened to add when she thanked him. “And you’re welcome. It probably does have something to do with Aisko, but if we’re not allowed to take it…”
He shrugged, but picked up the map anyway when she gestured to it. Clearly, she was intrigued, and to be honest, so was he. He simply wasn’t willing to rob the library to satiate his curiosity. If, by some stroke of luck, it wasn’t anything of particular importance however, perhaps they would be permitted to take it with them on their trip?
Rolling the map up carefully and ignoring the nipping chill it left on his palm, Lithian nodded towards the stairs and started moving between the nearest aisle of books towards them. “Come on,” he prompted. “If you think that’s enough study material for now, we can at least find out what the map is. Maybe it’s just an misplaced historical artifact.”

Ara’s shoulders slumped slightly as they headed back down the stairs. What if the librarian wouldn’t let them take the map? Her nose wrinkled up in a frown as she shifted the weight of the books she was carrying. The last thing on her mind was the test that was soon to come. She sighed as the finally made it to the front desk
Araceli’s gaze flicked around the front desk, wondering where the librarian was. She was just about to say something to Lith when a soft voice greeted them. “May I help you?” Ara jumped, turning towards the voice and relaxed when she realized it was the librarian.
“Uh...y-yes. I’d like to check these books out, please.” Ara’s eyes went to Lithian as the librarian worked to check out the various books Lithian had gathered for her. She nudged him with her arm and nodded towards the dovaa behind the desk. “C’mon, ask her,” she whispered to him.

Lithian flushed at Ara’s prompting, and he glanced back up to the librarian, watching and waiting as she filed through the books and scribbled in a ledger at her desk after looking at each one. As she came to the last one, Lithian stepped up, clearing his throat softly and lifting the icy map towards the front desk.
“Ma’am?”
The librarian’s eyes flicked to him, expression alit with recognition given how much time he spent there. “Yes, Lithian?”
“We—my friend found this map,” Lithian started, pushing it across the desktop for better examination. “I was—we were wondering what it lead to or who it belonged to? Are we allowed to take it out of the library?”
The librarian blinked, brow pinching as she lifted a pair of narrow spectacles previously hanging from around her neck to her face, adjusting them into place and then eyeing the map scrutinizingly. After several long moments, she hummed dismissively.
“We’ve had this amongst our stock for longer than I’ve been here,” she said, “but I don’t know what it was doing out in the open. You may take it out of the library if you wish, but I wouldn’t advise you to try chasing down any hidden ‘treasures’. It was mapped by a traveler from the ice continent, Aisko, but the man was half mad and it might well be falsely drawn. Far too distant and dangerous for children such as yourselves to go gallivanting off to, regardless.”
Lithian snuck a brief glance in Ara’s direction before nodding and smiling politely as he took the map back, rolling it carefully. “Thank you, ma’am. We won’t get ourselves hurt.”
