Sherry didn't feel like talking on the way to the lighthouse. Between Armagnac and worry... well. Most of the walk was spent in silence. "Everything. When it's over," she said, finally, just before they entered the building. Quote: /magically sends them to the lighthouse

Mark was waiting there, well, waiting on his brand new cell phone, texting away. He ignored all new arrivals for a good minute, and finally looked up, and that was only because he was trying to figure out the pixel aspect ratio of his camera and suddenly got a camera full of not him in the background.
"Uhhh," he began intelligently, finally turning to stare at Jake and Sherry. The mere inkling of why he was even here was slowly formulating in his brain. "Hello." Nope, it wasn't coming to him.
He would stare at them blankly for another moment longer before sending out more important twitters before looking back up again. "Equipment! Stuff! Okay, like, check out these bad boys." He pulled out a pair of flashlights. "They'll light up dark places. Yeah. And these guys." A pair of headphones followed. "They do headset things. Like, put them on, and if anything important happens, I'll shout really loud into them and stuff." Long pause. "Where are you guys going again?"

Caelius had his assistant would give them instructions, more or less, so they'd waited when they saw Mark. He looked almost busy, but Sherry had a feeling he was not that busy. She mildly wondered if he had his security cameras hooked up to that shiny new phone. That would be a little terrifying. "Hello," she replied, slowly. Sherry glanced at Jake when Mark looked back at his phone. Death. The whole lot of them were strange. Her face brightened when Mark mentioned 'equipment' though. Yes. Anything to help. The division lead had made this mission sound absolutely horrible and-- Flashlights? Ok. They were handy, and so were headsets. Not as handy as some things, but better than nothing. Maybe. No not really. Still, Sherry took her share of the equipment, looking from Mark to Jake then back again. "To...a horseman base?" Sherry was suddenly full of hope, Mark's question leading her to second guess things. Maybe Caelius had been being dramatic. Maybe... she had interpreted that completely wrong. Maybe they were just going somewhere dark and finding.... one horseman. A small one.

Jake only gave a tired sigh at Mark's lacking response at their arrival. To be honest, he didn't really know what to expect anymore, and had already worried himself ragged on the way here. Headsets were an asset (he wasn't so sure about the part on Mark screaming), but flashlights? They really WERE going to infiltrate some horsemen lair, weren't they? Well, at least there wasn't a fear scanner or some equally heavy and delicate equipment he would probably be blamed for breaking.
"Probably some dark, dinky cave." he muttered. Given their luck though, he really wasn't sure WHAT to expect anymore. Optimism was over-rated.

"Dinky horsemen base cave, got it," Mark opened his tablet to check his agenda, his agenda of busty asian beauties. After checking them out, he managed to finally key in some coordinates and gave them a half-hearted salute. "Okay, I think that's it. Wait, hang on a second." His eyes narrowed at Jake. "Aren't you one of the guys who owes me five-hundred - wait, hang on, nevermind, continue."
He just has half-heartedly waved them off, and didn't really seem too keen about actually doing his job, less so than usual.
Unstable was the best word to describe the portal arrival as darkness hit them and then a strange loud thud.
There was nothing else but darkness, and a strange unusual smell, ripe and pungent. There was also a persistent noise, what sounded like something dripping, and then an even louder buzzing. Something - somethings seemed to crawl just under their feet.

Sherry had long, long ago stopped wondering how Mark got any work done. He always seemed distracted by something, though she reasoned he had to be good at something, even if that something was just surviving, or helping others survive. She tossed him a quick "Thanks" as he sent them on their way, finally. Even if she really didn't think she wanted to see what was waiting for them. The moment they arrived she really wished she could see what was waiting for them. The arrival itself did not bode well for the rest of the trip, much less the all encompassing dark and that smell. She glanced around, hoping for some light, while she fumbled with the flashlight she must have shoved in her pocket like an idiot. Of course she'd need it right away. Her other hand instinctively reached in the direction Jake would be, should be, as her brain did what it could to translate the noises into things that were understandable. Dripping was innocent enough, maybe, usually, but buzzing...and what was that under her boots? "Where are we?" she whispered, even if it seemed like a silly a question. Mark had just told them where he was sending them. The fingers of her left hand gripped at Jake's arm while the flashlight in her right hand clicked on.

Jake only glared back at Mark, resisting the urge to punch him had he dared asked for more money, but then Mark sent them off and he only grumbled. Seriously, after all the money he ALREADY gave hi- wait. If they had the coordinates to some horsemen base, why didn't they-
He never got to finish the thought as a wave of darkness hit him, and then... Ugh, what was that SMELL? He stamped his foot a few times, hoping he managed to crush whatever was skittering about. The buzzing noise was giving him a headache already.
"I don't know, but keep your headset on. I have a bad feeling about this."

Sherry's flashlight turned on, enough to reveal a black ceiling that parted, hundreds of tiny insects scurrying away from the light.
The thudding noise came from long ropes, each one suspending a sandbag. No bodies, no blood or bones or littered tablets, just sandbags slowly hitting each other side to side, hanging from high ceiling rafters and shallow water below them.
There were two paths forward. One path had a spiral engraved clockwise on it, the other counterclockwise.
It still felt like someone was watching them from behind.

"I plan to," Sherry replied, blinking while her eyes tried to adjust. She cringed at the glimpse of bugs on the ceiling. It was funny, she'd not had too much of a problem with bugs before associating them with horsemen. She shuddered at her memories. "Odd building." The bugs weren't the only thing she noticed as she pointed the beam of light around to inspect the surroundings. Rafters, water, ropes, bags, and what appeared at first glance to be two ways out. She reached out to touch one of the sandbags, almost absentmindedly wanting to stop it's motion. They really helped to make the whole ambiance of the room rather creepy. "Do you think we're actually in the base?"

Jake grimaced at the sight of the bugs, but if that was the worst they were going to put up with, he would have gladly accepted it. The sandbags however...
Frowning deeply, he pulled out his own flashlight, slightly weary. Sandbags and ceiling rafters? Was this even a horsemen base? He had always thought they were a bit more... primitive, though the spiral pattern was somewhat recognized. "I don't know, but it's still too early to say." For all he knew, the horsemen could be JUST down that path. Still, they should probably survey the surroundings a bit more before deciding what to do.
Since Sherry got the area in front, Jake turned, swinging his flashlight behind them. Just where WERE they?

Sherry shuddered again, turning her gaze back towards the two ways out. This time the spirals caught her eye, horsemen symbol. Or...one of them was.
"I can't believe I jumped to help you out with this," she muttered. "Okay, fearless leader, what do you want to do?" She'd started to whisper... drawing attention didn't seem like a grand idea.

"You could have said no," he muttered, still scanning the area. He was pretty much screwed either way.

To be fair, she hadn't quite known what she was getting into when she'd showed up. By the time instructions had been handed out...well, it was far to late to back out.
"You knew I wouldn't." She spared a quick glance in his direction. "We both know I'm too foolish for that." A pause, during which the sounds of room seemed much louder to Sherry. "That's why you asked me, right?"

Sherry rolled her eyes. He was really good at thinking things through, wasn't he? Grumpy dragon-butt was still grumpy. "I guess it doesn't matter." More muttering. She really should be focusing on the whole mission thing. Especially the 'not dying' part. "Okay. You see anything interesting over there?" Even as she asked she was edging past the nearest creepy sandbag towards one of the dark paths out of their creepy room. Which way did the horsemen symbol go again? xZoobey Just wanted to let you know, don't worry about interrupting us if you need to. /never not rp /just exploring
