He looked at the mark she had made with the shell and the skewer, "Cause you can tear hide right?" He asked.
He smiled broadly at the mention of tracking, something he knew. "Well its like entering a different world, escaping civilization and becoming part of the web of life in the most primal way. You start thinking like the animal, using it to direct where you search and what you search for. And finally finding it is worth all the bug bites and cuts and bruises. I tracked some Mammu one time, they are the easiest cause they are huge."

She nodded. The hides in the outer section of her skins were the thickest and toughest but could still be torn in some places if you didn’t’ know how to ease into something. She listened to him talk about tracking with a growing smile. She felt that way about drawing the ability to see a creature and feel its powerful grace while sketching it’s form; its subtle elegance while trying to catch the ways the shadows played on its form. It’s mystery that could never be fully captured in the eyes. It was worth the long hours the awkward angles and the stains on her fingers that never seemed to completely fade no matter how much she washed. “I understand.” It was all she said, but it was also all she needed to.

"You are apparently one of the very few who do, my old friends rolled their eyes and said it was very boring and all over tedious in their opinion, although they appreciated when my skills got them fed." Was that really where he had come from? Friends who only wanted to hear or do things that served their own purpose and at that why bother when someone else could do it for them. A world where he had revolved around town gossip and how superior the ice tribe was above all others. Well he had news for them, well adapted the ice may be to their snowy, ice packed home, but below those borders they melted like so much ice, and in fact were at a disadvantage at times. Flowing into the rivers of the mundane to the ocean just like all others.

Giggling she looked at him. “Perhaps your friends simply haven’t found their calling that they feel strongly enough about to understand your passion.” Mella felt a bit bad for him. To have grown up around those who he should be able to share his experiences with and get positive encouragement and support from he seemed to have found a barren land. “My parents supported my though they didn’t ever understand and the others in the village thought me odd but nice enough. I think they are still waiting for me to come around to reality as they see it.” She stretched her arms out and shifted her weight feeling her butt start to go numb below her. Reaching she stroked the sail scale humming softly at her. “So where are you and this lovely lady headed to?”

"We are heading out from Zena after a visit with my parents. They had to meet Iniu you see. I am so proud of her I thought they would appreciate the company for a bit. Now I'm off to explore more but just on a day trip, I am spending tonight in my own bed while I can before I head to somewhere far like Jahaur. And you? Are you on a quest type thing too or are you just looking for stuff to paint?"

She nodded but gave him a look when he suggested she was just looking for things to paint like it was a hobby. “I’m out finding what will make more colors and trying to find out what it’s like to travel with said supplies. It wouldn’t do to get out and find that my jars cracked or that I can’t carry as many sewn skins with powder as I thought.” She wasn’t really mad about his view of it after all she had to defend what she wanted so long it just was what it was, still it did annoy her a bit. Crossing her legs she looked at the fire deciding to turn the conversation back to him or at least to something else. “Something out in Jahaur to see or perhaps enjoying travel to enjoy the wide world around us?”

"Well, a while ago my parents set me with a task to meet one of each gender of each race, this quest has really opened my eyes. I find myself liking practically everyone I meet and so my old view of the world revolving around Zena has expanded, and I am ashamed of my behaviour in youth. I had no idea what it was really like out here."

“Ah so you grew up with a bunch of your … less traveled friends and held their kind of view of all other races?” She grinned at him. It wasn’t a stretch s far as she knew. Given his earlier comments she wouldn’t be surprised. “You know I think your parents had the right idea. I’m really glad they sent you out into the world so I got to meet you and of course your better half.” She reward the adorable sail scale with a good scratch just at the joint of the wing like she had seen the playful ones do back home. “Still you should be careful in your travels. Not everyone is always nice especially given the rumors. Still if you’re ever in Mez my parents are there and would probably give you a hot meal and warm place to sleep.” He wasn’t a bad guy at all and to be honest she was quite enjoying talking to him and playing with the little scaled angel. (Sauron is so pretty <3)

Iniu melted at the scratch in just the right spot, not even Kiyelt had found that spot yet.
"Thank you for the offer, my parents would do the same for you but you have to run the gauntlet to get there. Send word to my father...somehow and he will be able to escort you up. Zena is worth seeing, its so beautiful..but cold so dress warm. You might find the spring berries up there useful for paint." He added as an afterthought.
"He tilted his head at the boneless sailscale, what did you do to her? She looks blissed out."

She smiled and didn’t want to say that she had no way to send word ahead and she really didn’t want to travel to Zena’s cities. Still the allure of paint was definitely something. Perhaps she could send word by messenger somehow from an easier to access town and get the berries sent down to her? She was so busy musing the possibilities that she was confused by his question for a moment before looking down at sailscale. “Oh I just did what I’ve seen other sailscales at home do. They rub right here.” She lifted her hand and placed it back down to scratch again. “The ones at home that I painted seemed to like it a lot. So I thought she might too. I'm so used to seeing it when I paint that I didn't really think.” She smiled at Kiyelt.

"And that is where people who rush loose out. Have you seen anything else about other animals? It might be useful for my future career. I'll have to remember to observe even after I have tracked." He clucked at his sailscale who was now dually loyal, to him and to the girl with the amazing fingers.

She chuckled and rolled the sailscale to the side carefully to point to the scaled feet. “Well you see her hind legs. I’ve seen a lot of sailscales picking at their feet carefully so I bet between their toes is sensitive. It’s just a guess though.” Mainly because she had seen one sailscale once launch itself angrily at another that had snipped at its toes and landed a hit making the offended sailscale sequel in such a tone Mella thought it was hurt badly. “And the lilies I make my green paints out of are fairly good to most herbivores. I usually end up scaring a few creatures away when I go to gather them. Beyond that though I don’t know too much that could be useful. Sorry.”

"Even those two things could make a big difference in the future, thank you. It's difficult if you have never seen a creature before on top of when others don't know much about them to begin with ...its how you get munched on. My mother, miracle of miracles hasn't a lot of holes, but she is very good. I'm not sure about me, the only one that I have "charmed" is Iniu and I saved her from death so she might be somewhat biased."
The sailscale in question waggled her feet happily at Mella, thoroughly enjoying being coddled.

She really didn’t how much of a difference it could make since it was common sense stuff after watching a few little critters in the wild. Still she supposed knowing that the lilies brought in herbivores meant hunting would be easier if you waited around an area long enough. She laughed at Kiyelt’s words. “She might be biased but that’s aright. I think she has a fairly good sense of character. Though considering who she is rolling around near I might be a bit biased myself.” She gave Iniu some more attention before gently righting her and setting her facing Kiyelt so the sailscale could head back to her tamer.

Iniu sang to Mella and rubbed her head on her face, then fluttered back to Kiyelt to snuggled up with him and jabber on and on about how awesome Mella was. "Yup definitely biased." He laughed at his darling sailscale, it was like having a scaly daughter. "I couldn't have been more lucky with her." He smiled and tickled her under her chin. "Well dear Mella, I think its time for me to turn in I've had a long day of traveling."
