Being Honest with One's Self

After stepping out of the shower, she wrapped a bath sheet around her. She loved the feel of those thick long towels. They were so cozy to feel on her skin after a good shower. She had been in there till the hot water ran out. Even then, it took her a moment to realize and get out. She was spacing and zoning out. She quickly wrapped her hair, and then she sped upstairs to her room.
Her room was basically the whole upstairs. It was a U shaped room that was all around the stairwell, and then further back there was an archway door with black, red, and white beads that opened up into her room. In her room, she had her queen sized canopy bed. It was a nice cherry mahogany wood of course. Because anything in her room had to be. Nothing else would do for her. She had a long mirror that stood on wooden sides that had mini claw feet that were reminiscent of the day when people always used to have porcelain claw foot tubs. There was a nightstand next to her bed that had a nifty ihome that tripled as a lamp, recharging station, and alarm clock. Once in her room, she pressed play on the ipod that sat in the cradle. It almost never left except when she was loading it up with more music. It had a spiffy red case. The walls of her room were a nice cherry red also. Her bedding was a pretty quaint quilt. It had that old fashioned farm house style of stitching on it. Probably a gift her mother had picked up at one of those country Amish stores Cherry’s mom loved so much.

Cherry then just flopped backwards on her bed. With her hair still up in the towel drying, and her body wrapped in that comfy cozy bath sheet. She had been zoning out off and on all day. Check that; make it possibly all week. It seemed like life had suddenly upped its ante lately. She thought back a few weeks. Sometime between first meeting Xander and falling sickeningly sweetly head over heels in love with him. She had no way to know this could or would happen. She never believed in s**t like this. Not ever. Even as she could feel it happening to her; it felt surreal. She kept feeling like maybe she was just sleep walking or something of that nature. Eventually, she’d wake up. Only she wasn’t waking up. Well, not in that sense. Though there was waking up going on in her life. Her mind drifting back to that one night. The last night that she’d probably ever spend with any other man who’s name wasn’t Xander; lest God forbid something insipid should happen. Even though she hadn’t voiced that thought; she still reached out to knock on the wood around her bed. Best to just be safe than sorry.

Still, that one night. The last one that had been spent with Richard. She felt amazed he was this person all along. For him to reach out to her in that personal crisis like that. He had asked her if she was willing to do anything to get what she wanted. Or, how far she’d be willing to go to get it. She, shamelessly at the moment, had been willing to do ANYTHING. She laid there on her bed staring up through the canopy to the ceiling. Mostly, she still felt she’d do anything to get it. Almost anything. Suddenly, life was changing, and she didn’t feel so assured as she had been previously. She had said and done those things in the heat of the moment. In the middle of falling apart, she succumbed to any chance at fulfilling her selfish ambitions. Oh yes. They were still there. They overall weren’t changing so much, but she had only a day or two before this one had an epiphany. She had thought of a small thing or two she could do to kickstart going in the path she wanted. It was too late though. She had already promised to help these people. In fact, she had spent days in there exploring and snooping around. She had found a terminal that allowed her to read up on several officers in their ranks. Her hardest trouble was that she didn’t know who any of these people were. How would she ever put faces to names? That spurned her into slinking and ninja walking around hallways and passages. Always lurking around corners. Always taking a moment to look up and down hallways before just moving on. If ever she could catch a chance to observe anyone or groups of anyones.

She hadn’t learned much. Only that supposedly, these people were in some war with others. She was confused and unsure. Were they fighting over the earth? Or... fighting just to be fighting? What was the deal with these other people too? People from all these.. planets, asteroids, and stars? What the ********? Were they some ******** invaders from outer space? Like... really? Who knew Mr. Extraterrestrial from the History channel might not have been so far off the mark. Then, there were these other… mirror people? Who… looked suspiciously just like those senshis.. but were on her team? None of this made any sense to her. If it hadn’t been for the fact she was still holding out hoping, all this personal investment would eventually pay off.

BUT,

The more and more time she spent with Xander. He made her feel lit up. When they were close, those chaotic feelings almost disappeared entirely. The fact he saw such irrefutable positive and good things in her. It made her reconsider everything. She had never been a personal for second guessing herself ever before. She just always followed her gut instincts. Here she was. Rethinking EVERYTHING. Everything ever. She decided for now; she wouldn’t give up on this Negaverse thing. Best to not be hasty. She would give it some time to see how that would move.

Then, there was Xander. That night with him in the hot tub. She felt like she had been kicked down a pit. One she was still falling down. No doubt, she wanted him. Though her want went far beyond just the normal carnalities she had thus filled her life up with before him. She felt an emotional yearning for something her mind feared to give away to. She normally was just so selfish. Always only thinking of just herself. Now, she couldn’t stop thinking about him. The feel of the skin of his face against her neck. His curly hair brushing against her shoulder. The abstinence felt like torture to her. She thought it was almost like someone never allowing you to go pee no matter how badly you needed to. Only with this, people didn’t really have involuntary accidents. Did they? She sure hoped not. For anything and everything sacred in life, she hoped not. She considered herself generally capable of something once she put her mind to it. If she could just put herself to doing this, she’d make it. Even if it was difficult. In the end, it’d be worth it. Right. RIGHT?

She didn’t even really know the answer to that really. All she had was a meek ounce of faith. Compared to her desire to have his everything. To be needed, desired, and loved by him. Her previous ambitions for fame and riches, they were just a hobby or something to do to keep herself busy. A way to pass the time when she’d have to wait out those thirty six hour shifts. Even then, she had been frequently stopping by the hospital bringing him special little pies and cakes that were just for him. Did that all even matter? She hoped he didn’t just smile in her face and throw them in the trash or give them to someone else. He just really didn’t seem like that kind of person, and the small seed of faith in her heart started to shed its skin of fear to the soil of hope.

She stood up and got off the bed. She went to stand in front of her mirror. There she stood for what felt like an eternity just staring at herself. Tears of shame filled her eyes as she stood there considering how unworthy of him she felt. She was selfish. Her ego was a crazy beast to be reckoned with. Half of all temper tantrums could always be traced to some form of insult she felt she had received as a slight to her pride. Was it possible… that… she wasn’t so damaged… that… he would want her. Like… really. Did she matter? She felt like she needed to. She wanted to. She got up close standing right in front of the mirror staring hard into her own eyes. “Well, it’s time to up my ‘game’ I guess. Or… maybe grow some humility. I might need to be more honest about my pride too. If I am wanting him to love me, I need him to be able to love all of me. If that’s possible. Even if I am a selfish b***h sometimes.

HARD CHOICES

[Backed rp, to end of July 2014]

She had been sitting there staring at her phone. She had started to write at least a hundred text messages. She’d either trashed them or saved the drafts. She felt confounded that she was at such a loss for words. No matter what she wrote; she thought it sounded terrible. She knew he would work for three days in a row sometimes. Then, there was the several days she had disappeared as well. Was that more than a few days? When she thought about it, she wasn’t sure how long she had been gone. She had been taking some trips into the Rift. When there, it was easy to forget all about time and space up on the surface. A lot of it was just plain curiosity. She was often just wandering around cloaked in a long black sith like robe. Often, she’d lurk somewhere to watch other people.

Still, she knew she couldn’t very well come back and be like; “Oh guess where I went today.” She also didn’t realize he had his own dual life secret from her as well. Living in the dark of a secret like that, she felt she was the only person keeping such a secret. Still, even if part of her wanted to come clean and tell him. She knew she couldn’t. Even if she was told not to do stuff like that; she feared he would have thought her crazy and a lunatic. She had taken it well when Buddy had revealed some things to her. Still, she generally took most things in stride. She considered that one of her greatest strengths. It allowed her to find her way through most situations.

Still… she had embarked into that whole little ensnaring of her assistance with this army of sorts. She had done it while she had only just met Xander. Before he became important to her. She hated that she felt like she was lying by omission. There were things happening to her, and she couldn’t tell him about them. That made her feel guilty. If she was honest, that had a lot to do with her calling and visiting a little less frequently.

She had noticed that he hadn’t been especially pestersome with calls or messages either. That bothered her. She would spend entire days arguing with herself whether it makes her look stupid if she’s the one who calls him. Should she let him call her? What if it doesn’t even occur to him that he should do that? Was he waiting for her to find him somewhere? While she had uncanny talent in doing just that; why couldn’t he be the one to come and find her?

The more these questions filled up her mind; the chaos that was growing in her heart started to torment her. She started to nearly feel sick every time she thought about Xander. She had started to realize then just how much she cared about him. The more she felt she loved him; the more the chaos would torment her. It was a horrible feeling, and she decided after she came home from some run ins with some senshi. She needed to rid herself of this pain. She needed to pull it up by its roots. Was that possible? She had to try.

She finally settled on writing him a message. “Do you think it’s really an admirable thing to just not call or visit someone that loves you? Ignoring is probably not really very nice either.” After she hit send, she stared at the wall.

The message went unanswered for a good hour as Xander was at work on shift in the hospital. They were understaffed, but that couldn’t be helped because it was Destiny City, the city, fighting an invisible war. He’d been at the hospital for 36 hours now, with just a short nap to tide him over. He walked into one of the staff’s lounges and sunk into the nearest chair available, closing his eyes only to open them again at a voice.

“You probably shouldn’t get too comfortable, this week seems to be absolutely hectic so far. You’ll probably just get into a good doze and need to run back out into the ER,” said one of his coworkers.

Xander sighed and nodded, “beside I think I heard a buzzing from your locker earlier. You might want to check, it could be Lily.”

Another nod from Xander and he tiredly hauled himself out of the chair before heading over to his locker, not paying much attention to his coworker who presumably went to hide out somewhere. He grabbed his phone, unlocking it and hitting the little messages button.

A message from Cerise was at the top, but he could only see the first few words. He clicked and read the message, then felt a little bad, but at the same time he felt a little confused. She hadn’t texted or come to visit him either, he’d been at the hospital for three days now and nothing. Was he not getting her messages, but then he got this one?

He texted back, “I’m sorry, have you been texting me or calling? Ive been at the hospital a lot lately. On a 36hr shift thus far right now? This is the only message I’ve gotten from you in a while. Maybe it’s my phone. Sorry I haven’t called or anything though, the ER has been extremely busy this summer. I am also going away, you know, I told you, so they are using me as much as possible until I’m gone for two weeks.”

He looked over the message again before a nurse came in and said he was needed. He quickly hit send and headed out leaving his phone on the table.

She sat there in one of the arm chairs that was in the u shaped part of her room at the top of the stairs but outside of the back part where her bed was. She was looking through one of her dessert cookbooks she had picked up a few months ago. She had been so busy lately. She hadn’t made time to learn any new recipes or make anything that was so amazeballs as to recruit new fans.

While she thought about it, she hadn’t really been doing anything to create new fans in at least weeks. Was it almost a month? She wondered that she was really starting to feel mentally ill. It just wasn’t like her to not work on making herself famous. The chaos in her attempted to comfort her and make her feel like with its help; she’d eventually have everything she had ever wanted.

Did she even know anymore what she wanted? Not really. She did. She always knew. Things were feeling differently lately though. As she paged through looking for something very eye catching or named intriguing, she saw her phone light up. It played his ringtone. She picked it up and read it. She attempted to roll her eyes, but it ended up coming out mostly as a sigh. She hadn’t liked the idea of him going overseas. She wanted to go and to ask if she could; but part of her felt like it might be wrong to ask. What more; some part of her had at some point fantasized that he would just show up at her house one day, and he would say he wouldn’t live a single day unless she went with him. Of course, that didn’t happen. She was mostly not surprised it didn't. That had been a crazy flight of fancy.

Just like she had for a while made up her mind to chase him and make herself his most favorite person ever. She was sitting there making up her mind to make a change of course. She didn’t like this path she was on. Most people talked about falling in love like it was beautiful and full of warm and fuzzies. She was full of malcontent and always feeling nothing but opposites. Like, if you could be hot and cold both at the same time.

After staring at her phone a while, she decided to do a thing that was rather terrible. While even doing it, she knew she might regret it. Her heart told her to stop and not be so brash. However, her pride was blazing like a category five tornado of epic proportions. The chaos totally not helping any of that.

Her response for him to find later just read, “Yeah. Who knows what happened to those messages. That’s right. Your vacation. Isn’t that special. Since you are SOOOOO busy, and since you have SOOOO much stuff going on. I’ll make it easy on you. Don’t even worry about me anymore. Because I am not going to call you anymore. Or come by. If you feel like you feel like being inconvenienced by making the effort to get in contact with me entirely on your own; feel free. I can’t live my life waiting for someone to make me feel like I’m important. Have a GREAT vacation.”

Boy. That was a little childish. As terrible as she was being, such was the wrath of an only child who grew up always wanting other people’s attention and never having gotten enough. As an adult, she was hell bent on everything being just the way she wanted it. If it couldn’t be that way, she was going to just move on to the next thing.

Quote:
It was a few hours before Xander was back again, he phone still sat in the place where he left it. He looked at the little light that let you know you had a message flashed every few moments. He was so very very tired and he needed a nap. Finally he had relief and could leave, but if he attempted to drive now. It would be bad.

He unlocked his phone and read the message, then sort of just sunk into the nearest chair and stared at the message. He didn’t really know what to think or even what to say. He felt like she wasn’t being very fair to him. He was a doctor and he worked in the emergency room and he was only newly hired. He just finished his residency in December, he had no kids and most of his family was in England, so he regularly got the worst hour, but he didn’t mind not really. Cerise knew that, didn’t she? She would come and visit him and bring him food.

He sighed rubbing his tired eyes, feeling conflicted and not entirely sure if it was just his lack of being around or that vacation, or even if there was more to all this. He read the message again, she essentially said she was giving up on him. He knew they had barely seen each other or even talked in what, was it a month now, but did that really warrant this?

“Is that really how you feel?” was the message he sent back, followed by another, “I thought you understood how my job could be, these long shifts in the hospital tending to the sick and dying. You are important, but right now I think you are being a little unfair Cerise.”

He leaned back in the chair, tired but feeling like sleep wasn’t going to happen any time soon. He got up and headed out, he might as well try to drive home. He currently could only think about her text and the whirlwind of emotions it unleashed, most of which he couldn’t even identify.

Quote:
She had been on her bed listening to music and doing anything and everything to attempt to rid her mind of him. It felt like an uphill march, but she knew she could do this. She knew what she needed. She needed to go out somewhere. Maybe go visit someone. In the midst of moving around, she heard his ringtone again. She peeked at it. She could only chew the inside of her cheek. He was right. She was being perfectly terrible.

As she changed her clothes and looked to make sure her outfit to go out looked great. As she looked into her own eyes, she knew that really wasn’t entirely how she felt. Her feelings about him were a powder keg. Deep down, her conscience smote her for doing this.

Still, as she felt the chaos tearing at her. She felt like this just had to be done. It’s not like she had wanted it all to play out like this. It was just… The timing of her falling for him with the timing of her getting involved with these people. She had been watching someone get a starseed yanked out of them. She wondered to herself if it was a serious conflict of interest to accompany people who lose their life; and for her to continue to date someone who tried to save those lives.

Before she left the house, she sent him a reply. “How I really feel… is that… I have feelings for you that have been making me feel miserable. I don’t think that’s fair either. It probably isn’t your fault. I’m sure you don’t do anything wrong. I just… don’t want to go on feeling like this anymore. If you are on such a long shift; why are you replying to me? Go get some ******** sleep, Xander.”

She turned her phone off and dropped it into her bag. She went over to find a great pair of shoes. No. Not shoes. boots. This called for boots.

Quote:
Xander was driving when she responded back. He didn’t think after a 36 plus hour shift it would be a good idea to try to text and drive at the moment, so it wasn’t until he got home that he grabbed his phone and checked his texts. His jaw literally dropped at what he read. He just sort of stood beside his car looking up at the sky and feeling like, he didn’t really know what he felt like, but he was rooted to the spot for several minutes.

Feel miserable … the words bounced around in his head … miserable. He looked down at his phone for texts back. “Ok Cerise.” He didn’t really even know what that was suppose to mean, but if she was miserable than he didn’t want that.

He stood there for a few moments longer before he clinched the phone in his hand and tossed it as hard as he could. Before he knew it, he was headed straight for the pool house, sleep was the last thing on his mind. He kicked off his shoes as he went, dropped the white coat, followed by his shirt, his under shirt, belt, and then his pants. Thankfully his neighbors will well distanced because he was literally leaving a trail of clothes across the lawn.

By the time he was in the pool house he was literally wearing socks and underwear. He pulled the socks off and jumped in, and swam. Laps as per were his usual, up and down, back and forth. The water, it was always soothing.

NO More Running

It was a week before Christmas. She hated herself for waiting this long to come back and do all this. She should have known shopping would be a nightmare. Still, she knew. Cerise had lingered and tarried in France. She had been enjoying her time running away from life as it had started to become. Still since landing back home in town, she hadn’t powered up yet. Deep down and while not admitted to herself; she was afraid to power up. She didn’t want anyone to find her. From either side. Part of her fretted that her friend for many times and occasions who also happened to be her General in the Negaverse. Would Richard come and look for her? Would he take her there to be punished for disappearing? Ya. She just ran off without a word to anyone. She knew there might be repercussions for that.

She sat down on the big fluffy cherry red down comforter spread across her big mahogany bed. Her bed that was so big and heavy. The wood in it always giving her a strange sense of comfort. There in the safest of safe places in the world; she sat wrapping some things. She then decided to do a thing she hadn’t done in months. She pulled out her cellphone. She hadn’t needed it. When she was overseas, she got a new one for while she was there. She left her old at home. She paid up her account over the phone, and then she started retrieving messages. A few from random friends wondering where she is.

Though, she felt really surprised. One stood out, and her fingers immediately reached out to trace the screen sentimentally. A painted fingernail tip traced each letter of his name. Reading his name, her eyes flicked back and forth from reading his message to staring off at some random unspecified spot on her comforter on her bed. So many unresolved feelings regarding him. Guilt reigned at the top of all of them. The way she had let him go. It was raw and rough. She knew that wasn't’ any way to handle it, but she honestly didn’t know what the right way was. She never did the whole dating thing before. In fact, she hadn’t really felt so strongly about someone since her first crush in high school. She still felt alarmed by the fact she felt like she was likely still in love with him. A feeling that made her wonder at herself. She who didn’t really believe in falling in love. Yet… she couldn’t deny her own feelings.

There she sat rereading his message. She at first thought only that he had kept her number. “Does this mean that some part of you believed I would come back? Or, that it wasn’t over?” She knew though; she would never delete him out of her phone. Had he felt like that too? She wasn’t sure, but he was so honest and earnest. She was sure however he had taken that whole thing. It was probably not well.

Xander

I know we haven't talked in a long time, but you and Lily got on well. I wanted to let you know she is very ill and in the hospital. She isn't awake a lot but she might like it if you came by. Sorry for the bad news.

Xander… her other real reason for running away. Though that reason was so deeply tied into this folly she had gotten herself involved in. She wondered to herself. These people she was now involved with. Did they have something to do with it? Having woken up into this new life; she wondered at everything she heard. What was the truth? It was entirely possible. If it were, was it because of the moon side, the dark court, or the Negaverse she had pledged herself to. Hearing this, she felt like her decision to push him away for his own safety was absolutely the right thing to do. As it was, she was anxious as these things went on all over town. It was likely that he might not be able to avoid danger or injury himself. Still, she didn’t want it to be because of her or his entanglements with her.

She thought about all the times she had always just happened to find him. Like as if she were somehow drawn to wherever he was. Was that a fate of some sort? She finished her wrapping and cleaned up her bed. After, she went to the kitchen to make a special thing for Lily. Probably the hospital would take it away and not let her have it. Cerise made it anyways with special care.
Then, she went to find something decent to wear.

She looked in her closet at her clothes. She wondered if she should really go there. What if she saw him? She could feel it inside. She should really just stay away. It was what was best for him. Still… If she saw him, she wouldn’t resist her impulses either. How complicated life seemed to be here. She flirted with the idea of just leaving again. But no… That was just more running away. Her fists balled up at her sides. No. She wouldn’t.I won’t keep running. I need to stand and face this.
