"Didn't hurt his moving from one woman to the next without much of a breath," Jerry muttered before downing a gulp of coffee as though it were a shot.
He cleared his throat once more.
"Seriously, though, I guess I aught to shave... it's just- navigating this, ahaha." He motioned to the bit of face hair couldn't grow. " In the grand scheme of things I was just letting it go. Doesn't make me look manlier?"

There was no safe way to comment on that. Robert had done what he'd done, there was no taking it back even if anyone had wanted to, and Robert had hurt over it as well. Jordan hadn't really approved either, but it wasn't his call to make, and shunning Robert wouldn't actually solve anything. None of that would go over well with Jerry. Jordan opted to act like he hadn't heard it.
"Doesn't make you look manlier," he said regretfully. "Sorry, dude. You don't look enough like a lumberjack to pull that off. Trimmed is better, if you're going to do that. Looks cleaner and less -- well -- hobo-chic. Jesus, did I just say that?" Jordan made a face. "I sound like an art major."

"Hobo Chic?" Jerry raised an eyebrow, looking as though he hadn't heard the term before. "Well, I got yelled at for just a mustache-" He looked disappointed, rubbing his furry chin that at least hid the slice scar there from a spar long past, "What do you suggest?"

"I'd go with cleanshaven," Jordan said. "Having it uneven is eyecatching but not very, ah, appealing. The mustache on its own is just creepy. On anyone." He shook his head. "Clean-shaven and neatly dressed is a good look."

Jerry sagged, "Fine. Clean shaven it is." He shifted a moment, swirling the last of his coffee around the bottom of his cup, eyes becoming distant as details slowly came into painful focus.
Sasha used to help him shave... He'd never gotten the hang of maneuvering the left side of his face, although he had gotten better with practice- still, she always made quick work of the patchy bits that came up like a half dead lawn.
"Want to double check my work?" He shook the thoughts off with a quick breath and a forced smile. "Or er... maybe Rep has a runic razor or something I could borrow? I'm not sure my straight-edge is a good idea for a jungle this thick, ahaha-"

"Hey, I am right there with you in the nonflattering beard department," Jordan protested. "Genetics have seen to it that I can't manage anything that's not patchy and scraggly. Better to keep it shaved and look like that was the plan in the first place."
"You use a straightedge?" His eyebrows went up. "Takes some steady hands. But I bet you've got it easier than those of us who have to find razor blades when the portals are down. I'd think it'd be easier to deal with the shrubberies with a straight-edge, since you wouldn't have to worry about clearing the blade off every couple of strokes."

"Hey, now, I think I'd have an excellent beard if it wasn't for- facial complications!" He gestured, giving a self conscious smirk, "Yeah, Sasha got me a kit um..." He shifted, the memories popping back and now it all seemed so obvious as the dotted line of the past few years became coherent. "A while back and showed me to use it. I've always been good with my hands, but I'm not quite as good at it as her. Still- yeah, it's way more convenient than scrounging for disposables."

"What do you expect to use those lessons on, Mr. Patches?" Jerry gave him a nudge from across the table before rocking to his feet for one more cup of coffee for the road.
He was glad he had run into his old Phoenix Leader- It was a good distraction. Of all his friends, Jordan had always been the most attentive, even if that meant most of the time the younger man was busy picking up his pieces... it was appreciated all the same.

"Errant patches," Jordan replied, straight-faced, suppressing several worse answers before they could escape. "What else?"
He got up when Jerry did, taking a moment to stretch. Jerry was doing better than he'd expected, in decent humor and less brittle and hollow-eyed than before he'd vanished. Maybe the memory lapses had done him some good after all.

Jerry only snickered, "One more refill for the road for you?" He offered his hand out for Jordan's cup, "So... looked like Rep and Harri are same as always- didn't miss any trouble while I was MIA?"

"Yes, please." Jordan handed his cup over. At the question, the corner of his mouth pulled back into a rueful grimace. "You might've missed some trouble," he said. "I'll tell you about it on the way back to the dorms." He didn't feel like discussing the latest Incident in the cafeteria; the probability of someone overhearing and deciding to offer an opinion about the matter was too high. It was still a sore spot.
