So he picked the most dangerous of the things he could possibly do. She really shouldn't be surprised. Not that he had many options, as he pointed out.
Armagnac grumbled in her head, and Sherry smiled as she finished adjusting the harness and her gear. "Armagnac says she'd be more than happy to spar with you. But since she can't in a golem that means a spar with me, too."
Close enough. Sherry didn't care how mad she was, he didn't deserve to die. "Any progress with Chester?"

Apparently so. But then again, this was Jake, so it probably didn't come as much of a surprise.
He gave her a hesitant smile as he adjusted his own harness.
"Perhaps when I get Chester back, we can have a more fair fight."
Look, he's learning to stay positive.
"Um, sorta..."
She probably didn't need to know it had just been a dream.
"A-anyways, are you ready?"

Armagnac's voice was like acid. Sweet, sweet acid.
Sherry shrugged it off.
"Sorta?" Not like he would tell her anyway. She really should know better, shouldn't she. Heck, she should know better than to be helping him. Dammit. What was wrong with her? Taking a deep breath, she looked at the ground. She couldn't cry, no now, not after doing so well. She couldn't even wipe her eyes.
"Yes."

He knew she didn't really want to help him, let alone even be here, but it seemed she was adamant about making sure he didn't do anything reckless, so it wasn't like he really had a choice. At least he could try to get this over quick so it'd be less painful for the both of them. Though, the titan thought otherwise.

Just what was she thinking? Helping Jake with this got her what exactly? His attitude wasn't going to change, it would have ages ago if it ever was going to. Doing this got her close to him, but it did nothing to benefit her. Helping him wasn't going to make him like her. What was worse, she knew that.
So why on earth was she wearing this harness, and why was she placing the anchor on the ground and turning this stuff on? Was it for Chester? Was it really some selfless need to make sure nobody died? Habit? Or just her own stupid hopes?

For whatever reason, she didn't want this to be part of a continuing circle of hurt. She'd had enough of that.

It didn't look like he'd be able to fool her anytime soon.

He wasn't sure how long she' put up with this, and honestly wouldn't have been surprised if she decided to up and leave, so perhaps he should pull out all the stops and get this thing down fast.

I just can't.
Nope, not after all they'd been through. Even if it was nothing to him. Sherry was...she just wasn't like that. She didn't have to trust him or be happy with him, but she wouldn't let him doing something like this. "So you should keep an eye on your left."

He didn't deserve her. Not now. Not ever. But he had promised, and it was one promise he wouldn't break. She deserved to know, especially after everything, and whatever her answer was, even if it wasn't what he wanted, he would accept it. He had told himself this, and so he shook his head, took a deep breath, and tried to concentrate. Soon... soon, it would all be over.

It wasn't that he didn't want to talk to her, more so he didn't know what to say. It already felt strange that she was helping him as I nothing had happened, but he knew that was far from the truth.

She didn't mind the silence, usually. Right now it made her want to scream and yell, the weapon in her head not helping in any respect. But she did what she could to stay calm, cause if she lost it, he might very well die, and she didn't like that idea.
"What will you do after this? I hope you have someone you plan to ask for help next time. And mind that spike in front of you."
