Home Away From Homeword count: 559 The idea of a safe haven for cats had been too enticing to dismiss. Without a home, without someone to take care of her, Ash had been very nearly miserable out on her own. Being outside in the 'wild' meant far more working keeping herself pristine and finding food was both a constant effort and a way to double the grooming work. Frankly, after living as a pampered pet for most of her life, the grey burmilla was tired of being out of doors. She wasn't made for this rough and tumble life... she wanted a house with walls and windows, and yes, even doors. She wanted a cushion in the sun to sleep on and food laid out neatly in a dish. Maybe cat food wasn't the most sumptuous food out there, but at least it was clean to eat and required little effort to get. As horrible as the idea was, Ash missed being a pet. It had been so much easier to let someone else take care of her needs so that she could wholly focus on her 'work' of gathering information and tinkering with electronics. Out here, there was no safe place to even keep the darling things... the weather was a constant enemy threatening to ruin all of her work. The rumor that there was a cat-only place here in Destiny City had seemed like the holy grail to the Silver Lady. Which was why she was here, searching Destiny Tower from roof to basement to find the access hatch to the hidden room. Well... from ground to basement, actually. It probably would have been hard to hide a whole room in the upper levels since someone surely would have started wondering what this big space was for that no one could get into. Under ground, however... who knew how far the building could stretch? Hiding a room would be easy... Tail in the air, the burmilla walked the sidewalk with apparent unconcern despite the looks she sometimes got from passerby. By now, she was used to that... they wondered about her visor, she assumed. Its not like normal cats worse them... but that was really none of their business. The important thing right now was the wall she was studying as she walked. Thus far, it was a lot of concrete and glass, or whatever building materials this thing was made of... It wasn't interesting to Ash, so she never paid much attention to that sort of thing. Poking her nose into every crevice she could find, the guardian made her way around a good fourth of the tower before something caught her eye. As Ash approached, she felt her face warm in a pleasant way, centering in her forehead. Oh yes, that was nice... and then suddenly the wall before her clicked and split open, a stair case appearing that lead downwards. Excitement flooded the cat's body until she was all but wiggling in place and then she sprang forward, bounding down into the cool darkness. What she found at the bottom nearly had her squealing with joy... the large room, the comfy furniture, the COMPUTERS. Ash was in heaven... finally, a safe place to call home. Bouncing across the floor, the grey cat made a bee line for the monitors glowing against the way, ravenous for the information they hid in their memory like shining treasure.

Entry 001word count: 643 Perched on one of the stools pulled up to the computer bank at Guardian Cat Head Quarters, Ash stared at the screen as it lit up her face and body, her visor reflecting the lines of text as she punched them in with dainty paws. She was so focused on what she was doing, her tail took on a life of its own, the tip curling back and forth before the whole length twitched and swished. On the screen before her bloomed a textual log entry she had spent the last hour painstakingly typing into the computer. At least these keyboards were better suited to Mauvian paws, but nothing could really improve the speed of typing with more or less two digits. Entry 001 User: AdminAsh Keywords: Start, Beginning, First, Profile, Summary, Syrma, Ballard
Introduction:
I have discovered the HQ and their computer database. I have made the decision to begin logging my work in a set of private files I have encrypted for security, as I have not discerned whether this database is completely secure.
Query: Is the database protected from outside access?
The following is my profile information.
Name: Ash
Age: 3.5 years
Breed: Burmilla
Race: Mauvian
Eye color: Green
Fur color: Silver, Grey Stripes
Weight: 10lbs
Skills: Information Technician, Developer, Programmer, Hacker
Summary:
Subsequent entries in this log will contain information on the various entities I meet during my work as well as the information I collect about the ongoing conflict between WM and Chaos. At the time of this log entry, I have encountered two subjects; Guardian Cat Ballard and Chibi Senshi Syrma. Entries pertaining to them are forthcoming below. To date, I have no information to log, only queries about the chibi senshi system as posed by Syrma. Most of my function as a guardian cat has come through instinct and unlocked memory files. I will be working to unlock as much memory as possible and supplement that information with that gathered from the entities I meet.
Personnel Log:
Identification: Chibi Senshi Syrma Sphere: Wolves Gender: Female
Summary: Met by chance while out on patrol. She verbally challenged the established senshi order, in particular the classification of 'chibi'. Her reactions were very combative and defensive when I attempted to share what small store of information I had about the system and the process of becoming a full senshi. She most likely patrols alone as no other senshi were sighted during the encounter. My attempts at ingratiating myself were ignored or rebuffed. She seems to have little understanding of the concept of past lives and no desire to take the idea seriously, claiming she was Cleopatra in her past life. It might be best if she were to work with a different guardian cat, one more in line with her views and goals.
Identification: Ballard Race: Mauvian Breed: Sphinx Gender: Male
Summary: He saved me from a dog-like youma, but his methods were unorthodox. He poured hot sauce all over it, managing in the process to spot my fur with the concoction. When I was unable to remove it myself, I requested his help, but he refused. He seemed uncaring of my obvious distress and only interested in being praised for what little he had done during the conflict. He had very little respect for me as a colleague. Future contact with him may prove fruitless, but that is only a theory.
END FILE Ash sighed when she finally hit the last few buttons, rising up to stretch the way only a cat can, her spine like liquid as she arched it. Blah... working like this was tiring... She was going to need to look into some alternative to brute force typing it all out. Maybe she could get her paws on some of that speech recognition software... that would certainly make things go a lot faster and she even had the headset for it. It might be time to sneak back into that Best Buy she was at the other day... she could maybe appropriate something there.

Disturbing Dreamsword count: 786 Sleep was ever a thing that cats were made to do and Ash took great pleasure in performing that particular skill. Curled up in the sitting area of HQ, she made a silver ball of soft fur, sides softly rising and falling with each long, slow breath she took. Sleep was usually a blissful void, a fog she could lose herself in for a few hours, but for once, her sleep was not empty. This time, dreams invaded the restful slumber and they made silky paws twitch, a frown rumpling the peaceful face. Quote: She was being chased by a monster! Logic told her it had to be a youma, that other monsters didn't exist, but some part of her screamed that it was nothing she had ever encountered before, that it was something truly terrible and mysterious and bent on tearing her to shreds to rid her body of even the smallest speck of life force... something in her mind whispered it would even consume her starseed and there would be no trip to the Cauldron for her... no rebirth to serve senshi once more. Ash knew that many humans didn't believe in the Cauldron the way the Mauvians and senshi knew of it... some had a concept of rebirth, but it was different from what she knew as fact. Was this what humans felt, knowing they would die with no hope of being reborn again? The despair that squeezed her heart was worse than the fear of the pain that would come with meeting her end. Silver paws beat the packed earth in a rapid, terrified tattoo, carrying her like a streak over obstacles and through alleys. The sky was turning dark, taking on a wash of purple that colored everything, and even as she ran, the only sound she could hear were her own paws. At some point, she stopped running from the monster and was simply running, the danger from behind replaced with a danger that was formless and came from everywhere at once. Rushing forward, the guardian broke from the alley into the square around Destiny Tower and suddenly she was no longer alone... except the people were not people, but statues. Grey, stone, and frozen in expressions of fear. She wanted to cry at them to run, to escape, but something squeezed her throat shut till the only sounds she could make were pitiful kitten mews. Desperate, she darted from one figure to another, trying to find someone who was awake, who would listen to her... Suddenly, the figures became familiar and her heart sank. There... Syrma, her little hands up in fists and a scowl on her face. Ballard at her feet, curled around her ankles helplessly. Further on, Zirconia, Prometheus, *********, Kallichore... each she came to closer to the pillar of black fire she could suddenly see reaching for the sky, roaring as it drew everything towards it. Ash ran, never stopped running, until familiar figures blocked her path and she finally managed a cry. There... Thraen, frozen like stone next to Astarte, her precious first. No! This... this couldn't be happening. Her senshi were strong, brave... they could fight whatever this was! Leaping wildly, Ash made it to her First's shoulder and frantically rubbed her cheek to cheek. Wake up... please... I can't fight. I need you... She felt so completely useless... none of her electronics could save them, none of the information she had hoarded like treasure... everything she'd ever done, worked so hard for, was worthless right now... And the black column expanded, devouring the word as she crouched low on the stone shoulder, watching in terror as it destroyed everything she cared about.... Ash broke from her dream with a yelp, a flailing paw knocking her visor from the couch to the floor. The sound pulled her to reality and she blinked at the room uneasily, her body arched instinctively and her tail puffed up. Everything... seemed normal. Everything was where it was supposed to be... Scampering off the couch and through HQ, the silver cat headed for the outside world and burst into the sunlight with a mew of need... only to find everything as it was supposed to be. Traffic rushed by, people walked the sidewalks, and nothing was destroyed. Dropping her back end to sit by the wall, Ash began frantically to groom herself, needing the reassurance of it to calm her nerves. Stupid nightmare... you'd think a higher creature like her would have no need for such things. They served no practical purpose. Huffing, the silver cat headed back inside, intent on setting up google alerts for weird weather phenomena. Best to be prepared... just in case.

Making Something Usefulword count: 623 Deep in Guardian Cat HQ, a small silver cat hummed happily to herself as she tinkered with something between her paws. Oddly, her green eyes were not clouded by the purple of her normal visor, as that item was what she was tinkering with... the 'guts' of the toy spread out over the floor. Some part of Ash felt bad for having torn her visor's electronics apart, but really, she was making improvements to it... as long as it all went back together, it should be fine, right? Tilting her head, the Burmilla pulled a bit of tech out of subspace and studied the result for a while, turning it over with her paw. Yes... that should do nicely. The piece she had pulled out was tucked into the tangle of circuits and wires before the whole was assessed again. Ash honestly loved this sort of work... making things that were useful, that found actual work. Usually it was for other people, but this one was a project she had been wanting to take on herself for a while now. Ever since that night in the park with the meteorites and the wild cat-man the guardians had defeated... an idea had struck her on how she might improve her own abilities. It would have been useful to have at the time, since a single use of her kitty beam had more or less left her completely useless to the rest of the cats. Dampener, limiter... Have to be sure it doesn't hold back too much, but it wasn't going to do any good if it wasn't enough either. She mused as she tightened a screw that held down one of the wires. Another piece of tech fell out of the air and she snatched it up, snapping it down with the others with a satisfying click. The events of that night had really stuck with Ash, especially the part where ********* had created something that had allowed her to turn herself into a Sailor Scout to fight. Now, Ash had known that at some point she would be able to take human form, the idea of becoming a Sailor was more controversial for her. I'm not a fighter... I'm absolutely useless in a fight... I highly doubt a bit of rock from the sky would do anything to change that, even if it did give me the power to transform. But, at the same time... wouldn't it make me more useful to my senshi if I could protect myself, at the least? It wasn't like she'd been in fights were it had been an issue, but she had been chased around by youma more than once. Maybe an ability to transform would help her fight those nasty things, give her a chance to get around without being chased half way around the city first. Well, if nothing else, it was something to keep in her back pocket, so to speak. She wouldn't be attempting to find a star rock any time soon. Clicking the last piece into place, Ash beamed down at her assembled, much-improved visor with swelling pride. With an easy motion, she popped it back into her head and turned to face the wall, focusing as her star began to glow. With a rush, she shot her kitty beam at the wall, feeling the force of it leaving her... but unlike other times, there was no flood of exhaustion to accompany it. Triumph made the Burmilla squeal as she bounced and danced about, spinning in places with happiness. It worked! Entirely pleased with herself, the guardian rushed out of HQ with her tail lifted high, excited to show someone what she had done.
