He was agitated, and took it out on a spine or two. Why was it always him playing the bad guy?

She had not known what he meant. And what he said made her roll her eyes, even as they watered again. "No." She inhaled, even as she made sure she was clear of Titan-feet.
"I'll help if I want, hell, you wanted my help bad enough to lie to me. About everything. But now you're telling me to stop? Just because it might hurt a little. ******** you, Jake. It's my choice this time." She shook her head. Did he want her to just walk away? It was tempting, she had to admit.

It was true. He had wanted it bad enough that he tricked her, but now that she knew the truth and was still willing to help him, he should have let it be. Yet...

He was sorry? Of course he was. Now that she knew he was sorry about it. Had he been sorry about it the week before? Or how about that time in the cafeteria? Was he sorry then?
“I…” She had to admit, she hadn’t expected that question.
Armagnac didn’t sound pleased.
“It doesn’t matter.” He made it very clear how he felt, and that was all that mattered here.

Sherry scoffed. “I was thinking about myself.” That’s how she got into this mess. If she hadn’t been so hurt and lost when he forgot about her, maybe she would have seen it, seen what he was doing. But she’d been happy, and that had blinded her. Armagnac had even told her, and she’d just ignored it.
“And I still am. I’d hate myself if you died.” She’d eventually forgive herself for being stupid and falling for him and his lies, but never for letting him die. “You should just keep focusing on yourself, you know. Now isn’t the time to start worrying about me. You’ve got sparks to the left to handle.” And really, she knew he didn’t care. He didn’t even have to pretend anymore.

“Why would I-“ Sherry hoped the headset didn’t pick up sob that caught in her throat. She was trying her hardest to stay angry, but she couldn’t even finish that question out loud. Why would I be happy if you were gone? She knew what he was getting at, it was the same thing Armagnac was talking about. But the thought just made things worse.
“Good.” Moving along with his subjects kept her from full on crying. “But no matter how hard you fight, some things take more than one person. Like Titan patrol. Because Titans don’t care about what you want or need to do. They’ll kill you anyway.”

Reasoning with Sherry was a lot like reasoning with Chester. It got him nowhere. Perhaps he could get her weapon to talk some sense into her, but he didn't really feel like dying either. He supposed Sherry was right though. Fighting titans took 2 people, and it really was too reckless for him to take one on alone. For now, he would let it be, but he needed to get to the bottom of this once and for all.

She wasn't sure how she was supposed to take his silence, so she just accepted it. It was for the best, perhaps. Talking would just upset her, certainly. She had feelings for him, strong as they ever were, and it hurt badly that he'd gone and used those to get what he wanted. He was clear about how he felt, too. Talking... talking didn't matter.

It was BECAUSE he knew what he had done was absolutely despicable, but asides from her cursing him out, he felt as if her feelings for him hasn't changed at all. Why? What had he done to captivate her heart? Even after all this, taking in the fact that on top of the lying, he had forgotten her in the past as well as threatened bodily harm. Sure, she said he had saved him once, but surely she didn't feel indebted to such a degree? He really needed to get to them bottom of this.

Sherry would have laughed if she knew what was going on in Jake’s mind. She didn’t even know why she felt, or what she felt. She still cared, that hadn’t changed, but everything hurt. She wanted to pick up the broken pieces of her heart and shove them into that cold emptiness she felt. Anything to make it all go away. She didn’t want to hurt, to feel numb and empty inside. But she did, and nothing was going to change that. Not anytime soon.

He was the cause of her broken heart, yet also the cure. It was sadly ironic. Part of him wondered why he hadn't told her the truth earlier, while another part wondered why he hasn't been absolutely truthful. Yes, he had initially just thought of getting her help, pacifying her heart with warm words and embrace, but at some point...
Why was it so hard to just let her know everything?
Everything was frustratin and he didn't know the answer to anything anymore.
