"It certainly can't hurt, at any rate," Birch agreed. "Would you like to take the egg with you, or would you rather I keep it here and study it for a bit first?"
However, before May could answer, Ash blinked groggily and awoke, looking around with a rather puzzled expression; his eyes did linger on May for a moment, but as the strange figure from before said, he didn't seem to recognize her on more than a subconscious level.
"Ah, Ash, you're awake. Are you all right?"
Ash blinked, gaze shifting to Birch. "Ash? That... me?"
Birch nodded patiently. "Yes, Ash - that's your name."
Ash seemed to consider this a moment before accepting it, sitting up and starting to pull all the IVs and whatnot out.
"Wait, Ash, you shouldn't be doing that, you're not strong enough - " Birch broke off and blinked when Ash started glowing softly, the boy's remaining wounds healing themselves until the only indication the boy had been injured at all was his roughed-up clothes (Recover).
Ash grinned at Birch; apparently even amnesia and a conversion to being a Pokémon couldn't get rid of his natural enthusiasm. "See? Ash all better!" He then returned his gaze to May, eying her with a puzzled expression, trying to figure out why looking at her made the inside of his head all itchy.
Pikachu happily hurried over to his Trainer, glad he was all right, while Birch seemed to accept that and pulled out a strange blue Pokédex, using it to scan Ash - after all, if they were going to help Ash, it was best to know as much about his new body as possible.

Ash considered this a moment, racking his memory to remember what a "journey" was, but eventually remembered at least that much and grinned. "Okay! But May come with Ash!" Ash declared, nodding matter-of-factly as if that settled it.
Pikachu facepalmed (facepawed?) out of exasperation - really, Ash was even more blunt than back when he was human!

"All right! Can it be meat?" Ash asked happily as he took her hand, starting to follow the girl and rather enjoying her company... being around her gave him a warm, fuzzy feeling for some reason.
Professor Birch, meanwhile, discreetly slipped a paper containing the information he'd managed to gather from his scanning Ash.

Ash nodded happily in consent, eying the meat and trying not to drool... and failing, if the slight drool at the corner of his mouth was any indication.
Pikachu seemed similarly eager to eat, his expression almost exactly like that of Ash's, complete with corner-of-mouth drool.

"It's great!" Ash declared enthusiastically even as he stuffed his face; apparently his eating habits hadn't been changed, either. That moan May let out gave him another one of those funny feelings, though...
Pikachu didn't eat with quite as much vigor as his Trainer, but he enjoyed the food nonetheless, smiling happily as he dug in.

Ash blinked. "...Why Ash need clothes again?" he asked, tilting his head in puzzlement in a surprisingly endearing manner.
Pikachu blushed slightly, but nevertheless returned the favor, licking off a bit of ketchup on Eevee's own cheek.

"Okay!" Ash agreed cheerfully, his hand in her own as he followed her once more, Pikachu hopping up onto his shoulder. They soon reached the Pokémon Center, though there was a small 'ding' as May's Pokédex updated with the information Birch had managed to get from his scans of Pikachu and Ash.
