Rob said nothing as he watched Tod shoot Soibhan a haughty look, as if demanding to know why the sugar had not been procured earlier, and snatched the treat from her hand triumphantly. She was right, and he was not in a position to ask for anything easy. That simply wasn't his lot in life, and he had always been alright with that. Nothing worth having came without work; Rob had learned that from the sea, and he was happy to fight whatever fights he had to in order to get what he wanted or deserved. But then again, those fights had always made sense. This one, with her, didn't come as naturally as everything else. Maybe, he thought, that was because this fight was somehow more important.
She turned, and the fawn bleated indignantly. How dare she leave so soon! He glared and stomped after her to her horse. With a curse, Rob followed, grabbing the fawn around the chest and hauling him back. A moment before she swung up, he caught her wrist. "T'isn't the first time you're runnin' away from me, Soibhan," he said slowly. "Is that easy as well?" It didn't help that he wasn't sure what he wanted or expected, either from her or from himself. And after a moment, he let go, knowing that nothing would stop her if she wanted to leave.
