Max gave Trey a small smile as he heard him say he wasn't a dog. "Who said that?" He asked calmly, wiping blood off his mouth. "Maybe this isn't my true form?" As Trey rushed him, Max lifted both his hands. "Death's Defiance!" He yelled. A yellow shield flashed to life in front of him, catching Trey's initial attacks. Max grimaced as the attacks continued to land harder and harder against the shield. Cracks slowly began to form in the shield as Max pushed back as hard as he could. He knew he couldn't keep this up much longer before the shield failed. He began to take steps backwards with each hit, buying himself slightly more time. Soon the shield was full of cracks, only seconds away from breaking. Suddenly the shield splintered into pieces with the sound of breaking glass as one of Trey's powerful blows hit it. As soon as it did so, there was a flash and Max was back in his dog form.



Taking advantage of his suddenly shorter form, Max bounded forward, scooting under Trey's attacks that were aimed at human level and right between his legs, spinning around as soon as he was behind Trey. He wasted no time opening his mouth and firing a powerful lance of bright yellow energy straight at Trey's back.

Max flashed back into human form as he saw Trey change. Trey was becoming more powerful; that much he could tell. But the effects of it were still unknown to him. His eyes flashed bright yellow as he heard Trey's words. "As if I haven't given it my best from the beginning," he replied. He held out his hand and a sword flashed to existence in it. The sword was large, the metal a mixture of black and white. "This is Absolution," he told Trey, holding it in a fighting stance as he prepared for Trey to make his move. He wasn't about to attack Trey in his new form, completely unaware of what potential new abilities he may have.

Max's eyes widened in surprise as Trey disappeared. "Where did he-" his words were cut off as light swords began to form around him. When they began to fly at him spinning in the air like drills he quickly reacted. "Death's Defiance!" He yelled. A bright yellow shield formed around him. The drilling swords slammed into it, boring through the resonance force. But they had given Max time to escape from being pierce. He rolled through the shield and out of the way of the swords, quickly getting to his feet. He looked up to see that Trey was above him in the air, this time holding two swords. That couldn't be good. He raised Absolution, preparing his attack. Whatever it was, Max couldn't allow Trey to finish it. He launched himself forward and up into the air, swing Absolution in a full arc as he aimed to slash Trey straight across the mid-section.

Max smiled as he saw his attack land, but the battle wasn't over yet. Despite his best efforts, Trey unleashed some kind of massive attack. Max raised his blade to block it and at first it did so. To his surprise, Absolution began to crack. Max held as long as he could before the blade shattered. Trey's blade cut straight through Absolution and slashed into Max, cutting deep into his chest. He flew backwards, slamming into the ground. Amazingly, he slowly got to his feet though he was clearly almost finished. He tried to summon Absolution again but he didn't have enough resonance force left. Instead he pointed at Trey and sent a lance of yellow energy towards him. It was weaker since Max wasn't able to call out the attack but it could still do damage if it hit. It was Max's parting shot.

Max watched as his lance streaked towards Trey. It didn't have much of an effect, not that he had expected it to. He barely heard Trey's words through the sudden dizziness that overcame him. "That was....a good fight..." he said before he could no longer stand. As he fell he flashed and changed back to his true form.


Max lay on the ground unconscious. He was still breathing, his chest moving up and down shallowly. He had clearly been defeated.
