"I wasn't too keen on assistants at first, but a little foal came to work for me, I mean he's all grown up now, but he showed me how much easier it was with a little help!" Latte admitted. She listened to Candy's story and smiled. Ah, what she wouldn't give to go to a wedding...
"That's exciting! I don't have any brothers or sisters... or cousins... really, I'm hoping one of my friends gets married some day! I'd like to wear a fancy dress too. But, um... as for me. No. Not really. There was a foal living in a tree in the park, and I talked him down before he froze? I'm afraid I'm not terribly exciting..."

Candy thought for a moment, then said "Well, I have a few siblings and half siblings. How about when one of them gets married, you can come with me?" It would be fun having someone else there that she knew as more than just "cousin" or "second cousin" or "surprise you are an aunt".
"You can be my date!" she announced as the waiter brought their drinks. She sipped her lemonade, then squeezed the lemon wedge on the glass into the drink.
"You found a foal living in a tree?" her head tilted sideways, and she placed the used lemon on a napkin off to the side. "But...how did he get up there? And when you say living...was he actually, you know, STAYING there? Instead of a house?" The concept was insane to Candy. How could a phony LIVE in a tree!? Pegasus phonies didn't even do that!

"Sounds great!" Latte chimed, but she felt heat rising in her cheeks. She wasn't sure why, though, and so blamed it on the heating and ignored the flush.
"Yeah, he was trying to live up there. It was really just a bunch of boards and boxes, though. He was freezing! I guess he didn't have any parents, so he thought he might try living in a tree. I hope he finds someone who can help him. His poor little wings were numb!"
She was finding that she enjoyed the company of little ones more and more these days. They were all so different!

The mare across the table from Latte was completely oblivious to her blush, but was instead trying to figure out how a." a foal managed to get all those building materials up a tree, and b.) How no one had made him come down before Latte. She was still pondering these points when their food arrived, warm and smelling delicious.
This popped her right back to the present. "Oh boy!" She said, looking at her quiche topped with pale yellow cheese. She inhaled, then cut a piece with her fork. One taste though, found it way to hot for her to be consuming at this exact moment, so she put the fork down and waited, albeit impatiently.
"Poor little guy." she murmured. "Living in a tree must have been tough. I wonder why he was all alone? Where did you take him?" Candy was already considering finding the little pegasus and offering him a room at her house.

"I took him to the cafe to warm him up," Latte said, taking Candy's hesitation as a cue of her own, "Then I took him to a home for foals, but I doubt he stayed long. He seemed determined to find someone who could help him build a proper tree house."
The clouds were apparently too high for the little green foal, but the ground not high enough. Perhaps his calling was in the nature of the earth and not of the sky. Maybe she'd see him again when he was older and be able to ask! She'd be keeping an eye on that tree for sure.

"Well that was nice of you! I'm glad you were there to take care of him. Imagine if he had froze!"
She decided that, hot or not, she was going to to eat. She took another bite, and hummed. It was wonderful!
"I bet if he found a construction phony, they could build him a nice treehouse." she said, scooping up another bite. "Something the might actually keep him warm, if he is determined to live in a tree no matter what." Perhaps she would give him a couple blankets...that meant trying to find the tree that he had chosen...
It was all very complicated.
"Foals will be foals I guess." she said with a smile.

Latte nodded and smiled. Again, every foal she had met had been entirely different. Some were more responsible, logical. Other lived by their hearts alone. Maybe some day she'd have foals of her own and watch them grow up. Now that business was booming and finances were stable, she could start thinking about those sorts of things, couldn't she?
"I gave him that hint. I've seen some pretty nice treehouses! It probably wouldn't have running water, but anything's better than what he had already. It's probably still up in that tree, if you want to peek..."
She cautiously took a bite of her own quiche and made a thoughtful face as she chewed. Well, that was... creamy. Eggy. Well-seasoned...
"This is really good!"

She definitely did want to see where this strange little foal was living. Her curiosity was piqued.
When Latte proclaimed her quiche good, Candy beamed while she inwardly cheered. She dug into hers, enjoying the broccoli and cheese combination. It was one of her favorite food combos besides, well, anything sweet.
"I'm glad you like it!" She said between bites.

"You have great taste!" Latte said, laughing slightly. Conversation dwindled as they ate, but returned while they waited for the waiter to return and potentially order some sweets.
"So, is there a special stallion in your life?" Latte asked, arching a brow and smiling coyly, "Will it be your wedding I come to next? I don't think your husband would like it if I came as your date then!"

Candy's face colored at Latte's question.
"Ah, no. No stallion right now." She thought there was one for a little while, but he turned out to be mooning after another mare.
"I am unfortunately, quite alone on the love front." she added with a smile. "Maybe because I have my shop to keep me so busy." She spun her straw around the rim of her half filled glass a couple of times, a sheepish smile on her face.
"What about you?" she asked, looking back to Latte. "You have to have someone right?"

Latte mushed her mouth over to one side and shook her head.
"Nah. I work too much, I haven't met the right stallion. Such is life, I guess!" she admitted, "But we're young yet, there's plenty of time! Maybe it's best to work now and worry later."
She lifted her milkshake in cheers, now grinning broadly.

Candy laughed, raising her own glass and tapping it against Latte's. "That's right! Let's be successful business owners first. Then we can worry about love!"
She drank from her glass, then set it back down. After finishing off her quiche, Candy lowered her fork and said "So how did you come about your helpers? Did you put out an ad or something?"

"Mmhm!" Latte nodded, having just finished her last bite herself, "I had a sign on the front of the shop, and I told people about it if something like it came up. They're all great, really willing to learn. It takes a lot of pressure off of me. Ever since Mooncake took up his... apprenticeship, I decided that it wasn't so bad, so long as they were well-trained... and now I get to go out for lunch with friends!"
She clapped her hooves together and sipped her shake, then nodded toward the glass case behind the "bar".
"Are we getting dessert?"

"Candy's eyes lit up. "Oh Mooncake is helping you!? I ADORE him! He was so sweet when he came into my shop. Gave me a run for my money on chocolate folklore, lemme tell you!" She smiled and chuckled.
Candy's eyes roved over to the glass case as well as the waiter seemed to read her mind and walked over. "Oh of course! I can't say no to something sweet! What kind of pies do you have over there?" she asked the waiter.
"We have blueberry, chocolate, strawberry, banana-coconut and lemon meringue. We also have coffee cake and chocolate eclairs."
Candy's head spun with the many options. "Oh, so many good choices!" She tapped her hoof to her chin. "How about a slice of banana-coconut pie for me." She looked at Latte. "What about you?"

It was good to hear that Mooncake was delighting others, too! She mulled over the dessert menu in her head. Oh, what choices... she wanted some cream, but nothing too sweet.
"Chocolate, please," she nodded. Boy, was she going to gain a few pounds from this or what?! She watched the waiter leave and tilted her head, deciding on a whim to ask Candy a rather personal question.
"Do you ever want to have foals, Candy?"
