"We're on the edge of Trine's territories here," Bereck explained to Becka with a small nod as he undid the last of the buckles. "It's not settled, but tends to get protection when a Fall comes. The wood is a valuable resource after all and once destroyed there's no getting it back if somebody decides they want it."

At this point Iachixth called out to them, and after a glance up Bereck began to look around for Natai.

Berath rumbled a laugh and looked up as the no longer little Little Bug descended.

"Good afternoon Natai," Bereck greeted the young rider with a smile. "This is Becka, rider of Phasianth, and my apprentice. Hold on, I'll come down." Unfastening the ladder the healer carefully swung his weak leg over Berath's neck and started to climb down just as slowly as he'd climbed up. Reaching the ground he repressed a grimace, pressing his lips into a flat line instead, and held onto the rope ladder until the firelizards retrieved his cane for him.

"I brought some supplies for you Natai, as well as lunch of course," Bereck said once he had composed himself, inclining his head to the sacks on Berath's harness with a hint of a smile.

Becka was wincing herself but more in embarassment than at Phasianth's loud mental voice, since she was used to it. Oh dear, there was the gold, Phas was well ahead of Becka though, stepping forwards, raising his head and flaring his wings in a pleasant, if showing off, greeting. he informed the gold proudly, His was the best, yes she was.

Becka smiled weakly at the goldrider, feeling incredibly ashamed of her flirty blue at the moment. Becka nodded at Bereck "Of course... must be hard to stay autonomous though with Trines dragons protecting you, even if it's mostly for the trees" she mused. Until Natai had several wings of riders to look after the holding she'd have to rely on the Weyr for Threadfall protection. Becka wasn't sure if she'd flown a fall over here, it was possible but she tended to not remember scenery during those times. She shuddered at the memory of her last threadfall.

She turned her head at the sound of a voice, a very human one. "Oh" she said, mostly to herself "Hello" she added, addressing Natai then turned to Bereck when he said he'd get down. She had to fight the urge to go over and help him as her stomach twisted at seeing him grimace. He'd hate if she tried to help him in front of others, especially a young woman he seemed to admire like he admired Natai, and not just because she was a goldrider but because she was worth respecting. "Let me get a couple of those please Bereck" she said, since she was already down and near to him. She knew that his flits did a lot of the things for him that he couldn't but she did wish he would let her help him more often.

Hello, hello~ Why are you talking like Berath? Do Trine dragons talk like that? But Kibeth and Malcarreth don't.. and Pioth isn't Trine. Iachixth tapered off into her own contemplation of such a curious thing as the way he spoke. They thought of Berath's way as a quirk with the green, something cute. Iachixth was not sure what to make of Phasianths copy. But welcome to our Weyrhold thing! It's not very exciting yet but it will be.

Luckily for all involved, Natai hadn't heard Beckas comment on being protected by Trines dragons. She had no intention of them fighting Thread over Euclid; hopefully by the time the next Threadfall rolled around they'd have enough riders to at least keep the main areas at bay. Even if Wherhandlers or unbonded rode with the other pairs and used flamethrowers as their double, something would be done. Natai didn't want her Weyrhold to be indebted to any Weyr.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Becka," Natai smiled at the girl as she would any other, peering down at the small dragonrider. "Always good to see you, Bereck. Actually just in time for me to beg a favor." In she swooped to Bereck one hand going to his shoulder in greeting, the other patting at Berath. Natai didn't ask permission; as far as she concerned herself, as soon as Bereck mentioned lunch it meant it was hers to fetch until the firelizards told her otherwise. She started untying one of the bags off the harness, head half-turned to keep talking. "Your favorite crimson rider may be about soon as well."

Smiling, still a little tightly, Bereck reached up to briefly squeeze the dark hand resting on his shoulder. "I'll do what I can to help, of course," he said with a nod, "and Rochelle? Well, we have enough lunch for four." He just hoped that the girls didn't make things awkward. Perhaps they had resolved their issues with one another in the same space of time that Rochelle and C'tis had apparently become an item? Mmh, perhaps.

"Thank you Becka," he added with a nod, "get down that big sack will you? It's tubers, carrots and things like that. Lighter than your firestone sacks though I've no doubt." If everyone was pitching in then that was fine, it would be silly to insist on getting everything himself, and as Natai took the bag of lunch items Bereck directed the firelizards to unfasten the lighter of the two bags of supplies, taking it from them as they lowered it down to be within easier reach. "There's a big skin of milk in here, some cheese too and loaves of bread and suchlike. Things you can't gather here for yourself," he explained as he carefully shouldered the bag, leaning his weight on his good leg and his cane.

Shards, everything- everything just-! Well it wasn't too bad for the moment at least, if he ignored it and was careful then hopefully it would ease off soon.

Phasianth tilted his head a very confused Phasianth sat down on his rump, curling his tail around his forelegs as he tucked his wings against his sides to listen to the gold. he chirped happily.

"Good to meet you again Natai, i believe we met once briefly at the hatching feast, Phas was rather.... loud then too" she said, blushing. A knot formed in her stomach as Natai was so familiar with Bereck, though she supposed it was just because he'd been spending time here often. That knot grew cold at the mention of a crimson rider, and Bereck confirming that it was Rochelle. Oh dear... this could potentially be a very bad thing if Phasianth wouldn't keep his wagging tongue in check..... She reached for the sack of tubers, Bereck was right, it was no where near as heavy as firestone sacks, but she was glad she didn't have to haul many of those around anymore, well.. not as much as she'd had to in weyrlinghood anyway. "If there's anything you need, i can help" she piped up, directed to both Natai and Bereck... but especially Bereck, there was no way she wasn't going to help.

Oh! Just with the 'beckamine' and 'Nataiperson'. Berath does that too. Do you copy her for fun? The gold chirped curiously, without malice or snark. Her tail tip wriggled with supressed energy, eyes bright blue and green and everything good in the world. Oh, an berath! She got a chirp too, just because.

Oh. Natai instantly felt like one of those inconsiderate sorts, the kind that brushed people off in the middle of everything. She had that night, somewhat distant in the attempt to not be overwhelmed with everything going on around it. It meant some were over looked, unfortunately

"I'm so sorry," Natai turned with the bag in her hands, eyes searching Beckas face in contrition. She remembered a small girl and a loud blue but with Bereck and the people staring, the two very large men next to her talking about things while trying to be subtle in playing meat shield... Things were lost. "You're right. I apologize, Becka. It won't happen again now that we've met properly without throngs of people jostling and being loud."

She smiled again, for all appearances serenely pleased to meet Becka. The girl reminded her of something like a doused kitten, confused and big eyed, mewling. It was not, to Natai, a bad thing to be.

"That's very kind of you. I was thinking we could sit by the firepit while we eat. We've attempted civility by fashioning ugly chairs out of uglier supply boxes. I've conne my brother into helping to make real ones but, for now..."

Berath observed the conversation between the two young dragons quietly, her eyes a steady deep blue. Phasianth did speak like she did, in that respect at least, and nobody else did but she'd never really wondered why before. It wasn't important but curious Iachixth was always full of questions and so long as Phasianth didn't mind it was quite fine by her.

"It was a... rather hectic day," Bereck observed, remembering how tense Natai had been as Z'fer and... what was her name? That girl with the silver. Well anyway, Natai had not been comfortable under their scrutiny.

"Ah, and we have chairs now?" Bereck went on as his brain returned to the present. If you would just bring that sack over Becka that would be fine, it's on the way to the food stores anyway. Shall we stop and eat first though? Breakfast seems like a very long time ago." And sitting down sounded extremely appealing just now.

Phasianth said, his wings held slightly outwards from his body, glancing to Berath, back to the gold, then back to Berath again several times, giving him a comical look as his head moved from side to side.

Natai needed have felt unfomfortable, Becka knew she was easily forgettable butted in Phasianth as he felt the shyness creep into Becka's mind "love you too Phas" she said, a smile playing on her lips as she felt the loving warmth coming from Phasianth. "It's alright Natai, i barely said hello before i had to go make sure Phasianth wasn't killing himself, his bugles are somewhat ... unique and took a bit of getting used to" she chuckled at the memory of Phasianth in the crowd, 'singing' away in his silly screechbugle of his.

"Chairs?" Becka was so pleased.. true they weren't the best or comfiest of things possibly from the description of the materials used but they were chairs, it meant Bereck didn't have to sit on cold stone or the floor. At Bereck's mention of food Becka's stomach growled, reminding her she hadn't eaten breakfast as she'd been too pre-occupied with making sure she oiled Phasianth's riding gear, however she wasn't going to admit to Bereck she'd skipped a meal "Yes, a long time ago" she lied, badly.

Phasianth on the other hand was less shy and told Berath that Becka hadn't eaten that morning, his tone telling the green how he felt about THAT but he couldn't MAKE her eat. Now she was here perhaps she would eat.

Ooooooh. You came right out of the shell talking like that, then, Satisfied with her problem solving abilities, Iachixth sprawled out. Chin on her claws, the squirm of her tail never quite stopping. I suppose that makes sense. Does this mean any dragon that spends a lot of time with you talks just like you? I've never heard anyone else talk like that so I guess it works - why don't I do that then? Maybe it's Pioth. He doesn't. I spend a lot of time with him. Maybe that's why.

"Iachixth makes her share of noise as well. I'm quite used to it." Regardless of any feelings she may have, Natai kept up her ever present mask of pleasantness, no sign of discomfort visible even now with Becka accepting hr apology.

She smiled wider, waved in the general direction of the cushioned crate-chairs near the kettle and fire. "We almost have chairs. At any rate they're softer than the beds. I believe Rochelle said she'd rather them cushioned then the tent areas because, and I quote 'Splinters where we sit sounds worse than visiting the infirmary for walking on bottle tops'." Another lip twitch and she shook her head. Natai started of in the direction, intent on tea making and sitting down. "Food sounds wonderful, thank you. I've not eaten today save for some tea an a few bits of fish. There's been paperwork. Tea?"

Bereck shot Becka a Look that said there would be Words later. He supposed it wasn't really his place to hassle the girl to look after herself - she was, what, eighteen now? - and it was hypocritical to boot but that didn't mean he wasn't going to do it.

Berath passed to Phasianth, her voice taking on a hint of firmness. Then to both dragons she said;

Bereck shrugged slightly in reply to the draconic conversation and set off towards the 'seats', picking his footing carefully and leaning heavily on his cane. This place needed proper paths... but before that it needed proper buildings and locations of note to connect by said paths. Euclid was just a couple of tents, its residents surviving on what they could hunt and fish and gather and what he was bringing in. It wasn't right, it wasn't supposed to be this way. They should have had more time to plan, Natai should have come here with a little group all prepared to build. He should have been here too, or at least been able to come after a couple of sevendays. It wasn't right, it wasn't fair!... And that was a foolish, childish complaint that he was glad nobody but Berath had heard.

"...Oh, yes! Food. Food and tea." Bereck gave himself a mental shake, glancing back up at the two young woman with a brief, slightly tight flash of a smile. "There's bread and butter and, oh, cheese and meat and so on.... Walking on bottle tops?" Bereck shook his head. "She does have some interesting turns of phrase doesn't she? I can see her point though, I shouldn't like to sit on a splinter."

Reaching the crate-chairs Bereck set his sack of supplies on the ground and moved to sit on one of the padded crates. Half way down however his side stabbed with pain - he froze with a small indrawn breath, expression tense and eyes closed. A moment later however he forced himself to get a grip, eased the rest of the way onto the seat and looked back up at Natai and Becka with another strained smile. "So ah... when will that tea be ready?"

He told her, flopping down onto his belly and crawling towards her, much like a canine creeping towards a table of food it was sneaking towards. He added the last just to make sure He asked, squirming a little himself as he chattered with the wriggly Gold.

Becka smiled warmly at Natai, so the goldrider knew the pain of being bonded to a loud dragon too, that was one thing less she had to be too concerned about. She was so glad there were even somewhat comforable chairs for Bereck, Too soft and he'd have as much difficulty as he would on hard surfaces. She tried to keep up the warm smile when Natai mentioned Rochelle but she failed to keep it warm, instead it shifted into a polite kind of smile and her eye may or may not have twitched a little. "I'll just be a moment then i'll join you, i need to go take off Phasianth's Leathers" she said in a slightly stiff voice. She needed to try and get used to the idea of being around Rochelle .. though now she had a dragon she could just 'walk' off if she needed to get out of the way of the girl that seemed to hate her. "Bereck do you need me to take Berath's off for you? While i'm over there i mean, unless we're not staying too long" she mused. She took note of 'the look' from Bereck and she KNEW that Phas had told Berath she hadn't eaten and the green had passed it along to her rider, she knew Berath was only trying to help, bless her scarred green hide but sometimes she wished she refrained.

He sighed just a little, he didn't like it when Becka was secretive. He turned to look towards his rider when he caught the edge of concern in her mind though she had closed it off pretty quickly. That meant only one person really that he knew and that was the Crimson's rider. She didn't like Becka for some reason, He didn't know why, Becka was the bestpersonever!

Iachixth blinked, her large head cocked to the side. Then she trilled a dragons version of a shrug, one huge eye leveled in Phasianth's direction. Even a dragon that loved to play as much as herself knew that little ones could be very breakable. Okay~ Those eyes flared an even brighter blue at the question, her voice going right back to the chirp. Oooh! Oh, when I was small, smaller than you even, Natai called me a bug because my wing went so fast and Nana decorated me with flowers. So I am IachxithBug and I like that just fine! Bzzzz~

She did her best to buzz verbally but all it did was end in a his. Iachixth churred at him instead. I am not a tiny little buzzing bug now, though, but I still like mud and flowers. Flowers are very nice. Sometimes Natai will put them in a ring around a headknob. They're very pretty!

Natai smiled back, calm and pleased. Her eyebrows quirked a fraction with the change in Becka's own expression, the little muscle quirk. Either way, the goldrider settled down by the little fire, tending to it and putting the kettle on.

"Only a few moments but rest assured, no splinters. No bottle caps." Natai said in a murmur. She glanced to Bereck and said nothing about his smile, only returned it. While she reached for the sack to take the items out as a good hostess would, she aborted the movement to look back up at him, smile turned sheepish. "I keep forgetting I'm no longer at my mothers house where taking offers of food and setting them out is good manners. You know how she is. May I?"

And he was asked another question too, one about leathers. Another arched eyebrow and her dark eyes latched onto Berecks face for a Significant Look.

Ah. Obviously the girls hadn't made amends while he hadn't been looking then. He wished they would, could, because they would be living together sooner or later and while Euclid was small there wouldn't be much in the way of a buffer between them. He did not want to be the buffer between them, to be pulled in all directions and each young rider hated the other. It wasn't their duty to get along just to make his life easier, of course it wasn't, but... well he could wish it, couldn't he? He was tired, and having two people he loved at loggerheads was one more stress he could really do without....

And that was another thing he could do without. 'Need'. He should have got Berath's leathers off while he was still over there, that would have been the sensible thing to do. Expression kept at a calculated neutral - maybe too neutral - Bereck debated what to say in response to Becka, far more worried about what to say than he knew he should be. He could just say yes and accept the fact that he needed help. He could just tell her to leave it, Berath would be alright, but if she was taking Phasianth's leathers off it would be strange to leave Berath's where they were. Maybe-

"What?" Natai had spoken to him, and now she was giving him a Look... she'd noticed too then. Or was he just being paranoid? He looked away, unable to meet her dark gaze steadily just at the moment. "Sorry," he went on with a little shake of his head, "yes Natai, please go ahead. Thank you."

And what was he going to say in reply to Becka? It really shouldn't be a hard decision, shouldn't worry him, but... but it made him feel tiny and pathetic that his student thought he needed help with basic things like that. It wouldn't matter that she thought it if she was wrong because he could easily prove her wrong and that would be that, but she was right.

Looking over at his dragon Bereck tried desperately to find a resolution to his clamouring thoughts, lips pressing together slightly as he kept trying to look calm and unruffled.

"If you want to Becka," he managed eventually with a little nod.

He could have insisted on getting back up and going to do it himself but his side was already flaring and stabbing with pain, he didn't want to make it worse and end up unable to do anything but curl up and wait for it to pass. If they thought he was pathetic now, what would they think if they saw him like that? Minor humiliation was better than risking far worse.
PostPosted: Sat May 17, 2014 2:47 pm

Becka sighed, she loved Bereck like a father and it hurt that he was in so much pain so much of the time, no matter what anyone said she still blamed herself every single time she saw the man wince or lean heavily on his cane. She thought if she had just done better when he was ....Becka closed her eyes and leaned against Phasianth for a moment, begging him to keep quiet and not try and comfort her. She stood up straight and moved to Berath when Bereck answered, Phasianth and Berath could go relax better without their flying harnesses on.

Phasianth nodded when Iachixth replied, he said before bugling in his weird way, albeit a little more quietly than usual.

He gave a happy young dragon chuckle when she tried to buzz then churred instead, she liked him!. he gleed. he paused and gave as close to a frown as a dragon could get, turning his head to Becka when her thoughts went dark and closed from him, she was thinking about sad times, he knew, she never let him see. He repressed a mournful croon when asked but he gave a slight sigh, before adding privately to Iachixth he said, his own voice conveying the feeling of being helpless to stop His from feeling sad.

Love you too Phas
