Fei watched the Espurrs playing and sighed heavily. Sure, he had been an outcast before, but at least then they had acknowledged his existence. Since his evolution it was if he had become invisible. He briefly contemplated knocking them around with some of his new-found moves, but simply shook his head and stood up. Annoyed, he reached up and tugged on his ear chewing on it as he walked away. He had been thinking about it for a long while now but now -he supposed- was the perfect time to find another home. The biggest question was where. He wanted somewhere nice, perhaps grassy. Maybe someplace surrounded by some trees so that he had something to climb if he got bored.
He wandered as he thought, letting his feet guide him aimlessly. Near a town might be nice, but all of the people and pokemon around with their constantly buzzing thoughts might hurt his head. So that was out actually. Nowhere too hot or dusty, places that seemed to attract ground and rock types. Not that he disliked them, just the habitats they seemed to like. On the subject of who he liked and disliked, Fei wasn't actually sure. He hadn't met too many other pokemon in his life. The espurrs he had grown up with had ignored him mostly, and that was about the extent of his experience with other living things.
He had heard stories that some pokemon lived with humans -called trainers- and got to live in indoor spaces with plush things to sit and sleep on. That might be nice, but he doubted that anyone would want to be his trainer. Still it was something nice to imagine as he walked. Someplace warm all-year round, with controlled weather. Big soft things to sleep on. Food brought to you whenever you wanted. It was such a sweet dream, but far from ever happening. He sighed again, letting go of his ear and wiping it dry.
He sighed again as he looked around to see how far he had come. He had been here once before, a small clear space just at the edge of the forest. He had been much younger then, just a small newly hatched espurr at the time. There was a clear lake, and lots of room to play, if he only had someone to play with. It wasn't too very far from where he had started, but most of the other espurrs never came out this far, so he knew that he would be free of them.
Fei smiled and shrugged, dropping to roll around in the grass. It was warm from the noon sun earlier and very comfortable. The meowstic looked around himself as he stopped rolling and just lay still, enjoying the warm sun and sweet scented air. There was a hollow at the base of one of the trees near the lake edge. It could make a nice home if it went back deep enough. Curious he sat up and went to investigate.
The tree seemed to be sturdy as he walked around it a couple of times, looking for signs of bugs or rot. The bark held fast to the trunk, and he couldn't see any immediate signs of damage. Reaching the hollow again he peeked inside, reaching out carefully to feel around for the sides. It went back deeper than he had imagined. With a curious little 'hm' to himself he crawled inside and measured it out. It sloped down a bit before evening out, and he could stand and still have room above his head. There was plenty of room for him to lay down comfortably and sleep, and there was still room for him to stash any trinkets he may find and want to keep.
A smile had grown wide on the little meowstic as he exited his new home-in-progress. It needed to be cleaned a bit, and could use a carpet of soft grass, or even just enough for him to make a little nest out of. He spent some time wandering around the clearing gathering things, moving back and forth from the hollow.
As dusk began to fall he yawned, peeking inside once more in the weak light. The cobwebs had been cleared, a small nest lay pushed against the far wall, and he had even built a small chest to hold his trinkets. He nodded happily and moved away to sit by the lake and relax for a bit. As alone as he felt right at that moment, he couldn't help but feel overwhelming happy pride as he thought about his new home. He took a deep drink from the lake and sat back, watching the late day clouds roll by.
It wasn't so bad the more he thought about it. Maybe he could make new friends now. Ones that wouldn't ignore him or treat him poorly. Living alone meant he didn't have to share a bed, or food, or the neat things he found while exploring alone. Even better he didn't have to listen to so many thoughts just buzzing around all of the time. He could be alone with his thoughts and actually focus on them for once. He laughed to himself at the idea and tugged on his ear again, chewing on it. It would be nice. Very nice actually. In the morning he would get up and go exploring. Maybe he had neighbors nearby. At the very least it wouldn't hurt to find out.
With a smile and an extra hop to his step he leaned forward to clean his face. Finished, he turned back to his tree and headed back. Curling up in his new nest he let out a relaxed sigh. It was peaceful. This was his new home and he was determined to make the best of it. And somehow, he knew he would too. Happily he closed his eyes and squirmed around until he felt comfortable. The young meowstic sighed once more, a rush of air escaping past his lips and leaving behind nothing but apprehensive relaxation.
"Good night, my sweet home."
