i dont think he is a monk but there r different kinds of monks and ordinary monks cant supposed to be exorcists so i think he's an exorcist and not a monk.

alterego_009 i dont know *shrugs* oh well just posting for some gold but i have to wonder why miroku is a monk question well one reason could be it's useful to say that theres a evil spirit over the best inn in town so he can stay the night free.

Well regular monks also don't hit on wemon constintly though besides him I've never seen a monk with hair unless they were a girl. Plus if he's trying to get a wife why the heck would he shave his head it would look ugly.

Miroku has hair because he's only a Buddhist monk in the fact that he grew up at a temple and he does have heightened spiritual awareness. But that may have to do with the Wind Tunnel. I think he just says he's a monk because it's a good way to get pretty much anything he needs, and also, his prayer beads would look rather out of place with any other clothing from that era.

I think the fact that Miroku has Buddist prayer beads on his wrist, and he occasionally makes references to buddah, and the fact that there's a statue of Kannon in the temple he was raised in makes me about one hundred percent sure he's Buddist. And that he's been called a monk many times throught the series kind of confirms my suspicions that he's a monk.
During that era Monks really didn't follow the rules, most of them married and had kids, stopped being vegitarian, etc. So why would he bother shaving his head? Although I heard somewhere that his hairstyle was acceptable durring that era.

i don't think he was raised in a temple because on the episode where his teacher was dying it wasn't a temple they visited but a home instead?

Or maybe it's the second movie. I don't remember which but it's definitely a temple. The home you saw was just the living quarters which are still on temple grounds.
