Brenny beamed. He reached for Truffles' hand. "There's a good lunch place over that way," he pointed to the left. "Do you want to order? I don't know what you'd like. My daddy and I are vegetarian, so I'm going to get salad with extra berries!" They were his favorite food. He was hoping to share them with his new friend. He lead Truffles to the restaurant, smiling brightly. "See? This is the place!"
He led her inside, and immediately wandered over to the cashier. "We'll have two hot chocolates, two cookies, a salad, and--" he glanced at Truffles. "Whatever you like!"

Swept up in the idea of getting food, she didn't even think about the fact that she had almost no reading skill. Looking at the list on the counter, the realization hit her. Oh... She knew a few words... There! That one was familiar! It had a picture with it! "Ham sandwich," she said confidently, pointing at the picture to make sure she was being clear.

Brenny was oblivious to her lack of reading ability, or he might have offered to teach her. It hadn't been long ago that Connie had done the same for him. "And a ham sandwich," he beamed at the cashier. "Now we wait at a table," he said. "They'll bring us our food." He had been amazed by this aspect, the first time he had seen it happen.
He directed her towards a table. "I've never been to lunch with a girl besides my sister," he confessed. "But I bet you've never been to lunch with a boy, besides your brother! New experiences are good things, though."

Brow rising, she followed Brenny in a daze. They would bring the food over, too?! She felt like some kind of princess!
Taking her seat, she sank into the over-sized coat, forced to unzip it so that she could be comfortable, and be able to eat when the food came. Her ears perked at the boy's words, and, after a moment of thought, she shook her head. "I've never been to lunch with anybody before. My brother an' me always have to look for food. Never gone to a place like this to eat."

"I used to look for food too," Brenny said. "It was only after I found Daddy that I came to places where they bring you food. I've only been here twice, though. Daddy doesn't make much money, and I don't want him spending it all on me. I'm happiest when I'm helping him and others!" The celebi boy beamed. "Do you live in the forest? There are nice people in the forest who will share food with you!"
Brenny paused. "Hey, I can bring you food!" He said. "If you tell me where you are. I can make you cookies!"

Money... Money could be traded for food. She needed to figure out how this money stuff was gotten. "Yeah. Forest. Got out own.. house out there." House... right...
As wonderful as Brenny's offer sounded, Truffles stiffened at the idea of telling someone where she and her brother lived. "Maybe we can meet here in town? Don't hafta go through the woods then."
Then, the food arrived. Oh, the glorious, heavenly food. Her mouth instantly watered as the sandwich was set in front of her. Like the hungry girl she was, she grabbed the sandwich with both hands and took the biggest bite she could manage. Oh gosh..... "Mmm... 'remmy, 'ow I gep 'onies 'or 'amik?" she asked around her mouthful, somehow managing to not spit anything out. Ears twitching, she finally swallowed a few times. "How do I get money for sandwiches?"

"Is it a ig house?" Brenny inquired, curiously. The celebi hadn't caught onto her avoiding the truth. "My daddy and I live in a small apartment," he added. "What's a house like? I wanna buy Daddy a house but he's happy where we are." Brenny was aware of their financial situation and cramped living space, even if he seemed oblivious the majority of the time.
"Oooh. We could! Want to meet at the park every week? I can bring you food and stuff." He had been about to tell Truffles that going through the forest would have been no trouble for him when a realization struck him: what if the eevee didn't want him to see where she lived? Maybe she was embarassed. "We can play that way too, on the swings!"
Brenny paused. "Well. My daddy has a job to get money. And I had one too, selling lemonade. You could do that!"

"A big house? ...No, not really. Kinda small, actually." Saying she lived in a house was an overstatement, while saying the place was small was an understatement. Only had one room!
Truffles looked at Brenny with wide eyes. He would bring her stuff... every week?! Slowly, a tiny smile rose. "That would be fun," she said softly. What if Brenny got bored with her like her last owner had? ...Well, she should enjoy this opportunity while she had it! "I'll bring my brother sometime, too," she said, before taking a more reasonable bite of her sandwich.
A job? "Can you show me where I can find a job?" She asked, unsure of what exactly a job was, but knowing she would need one.

"So like me!" Brenny beamed. He pictured Truffles and her brother living in a small house quite like Connie's apartment. "I can make lemonade," he offered. "And cookies! I can't make sandwiches as good as this place though. I can bring berries and maybe even a christmas present if I earn enough with selling hot chocolate!" He had done well in his lemonade stand. He imagined a hot chocolate stand would do even better.
"Oooh! Yeah, bring your brother! Then I can be friends with him too!" The celebi boy beamed. "Well. Mostly I just make up my own jobs. But I bet we could sell hot chocolate together! We can split the money!"

Split the money? WHy split when she could make her own stall and get all the money? Though, she had no idea what she was doing.... Perhaps it would be best to do the job stuff with Brenny first. "..Sure. I can do that." Wow. She might be getting a job... She could get money, and then not have to worry about stealing anymore! "We'll sell the most hot chocolates ever!" she announced, giggling as she stuffed more of the sandwich in.
Glancing back at the windows, her ears tipped down. It was getting late. "I'll have to see you next week. I should get home. My brother's gonna start worrying soon, and he'll want his jacket and mittens." She'd eaten half the sandwich, and looked at the other half longingly before she wrapped it in napkins and shoved it into a pocket to take to Aatami. "I'll get the other jacket next week, too. Meet me here again, so I'll know where to find ya." A small hesitation, and then she smiled. "Thanks, Brenny," she purred as she spun and ran out. She had a lot to get ready for!
