Still, bugs. Meri made a face, uncertain whether it was worth the hunting practice. Maybe she could catch them, and give them to someone else? That would earn her favor with others, wouldn't it? Especially if she told them they were good, with the right spices--and if they got sick, she'd blame Jacin! She was pretty impressed with the fact that he was self taught; he was so brave, saving her like he had!
"Maybe you could teach me?" she asked, hopefully. "How to hunt?" She hesitated at his question about cooking. The truth was, still stuck things on sticks and held them over the fire until they looked done. "Er. Alright, I suppose."

Jacin looked up at Meri, his work pausing for a moment, before he returned to what it was that he was doing, "I don't know about that, possibly. I have a lot of duties given my rank, a lot of things I have to do around Yera, but I could at least find someone to help you to learn the basics of hunting." He wanted to help but he couldn't do everything himself, but he could at least help in some manner. If he was to at least find her some sort of help then he would be happy. He would do all that he could do, help her when he could, but he couldn't promise to do everything for her. The more she did for herself the stronger she would become.
When she said that she was 'alright' at cooking he nodded, then looked around for a moment, then pointed, "Do you see those long, green leaves I have gathered over there? Bring those to me. I will wrap your portion of the meat in them and you can bring it home with you. The easiest way for you to cook it that way is to build a good sized fire then bury the leaf wrapped meat in the hot coals. It will cook slowly but it will taste great." He told her, waiting for her to do as she was told.

"Really?" Even if Jacin couldn't help much due to rank and duties, helping her find someone to help would be wonderful. Meri smiled gratefully. "Thank you," she said. She was eager to learn how to hunt, even if it was not Jacin who would be teaching her.
She went to the leaves indicated and carried them back to Jacin. She was puzzled for a moment, but with further explanation, nodded. That sounded like a good way to go about things; and easy too! She wouldn't mind it cooking slowly, as long as it tasted alright. "Thank you!" she said again. She had already learned so much from him. How to cook wittu, how to avoid being killed by them--and she knew now to get a stick and use it as a weapon.

Jacinthus took the leaves that she gave him, using them to wrap the meat that was her portion of it in the leaves, before he handed them over to her, "There you are." He said, giving her a smile and a nod, "You should head for home now, Meri, it's getting late and I don't want you caught out with raw meat in your hands away from home. Best that you get it to cooking as soon as possible so that you don't have to worry about that." The sooner it was cooking the better he thought to himself.
He then set to work wrapping up all of the rest of the meat in the leaves. He would need to see about bringing the meat to those that needed it, keeping only the amount he needed for himself and his family. The rest would be handed out so that it wouldn't go bad. He'd prepare it by smoking or drying it if he had the time but it was a bit too late for all of that. As such he'd leave it up to those he shared the meat with to decide how they were going to go about preparing it for consumption.
Once everything was wrapped up he turned his attention to Meri, giving her a smile, "I need to get going, to give this out to those out there who need it. Once you're a hunter think about doing that yourself, sharing your hunt with the older or younger members of the tribe. It's up to those of us who can hunt to take of those who can't."

Meri nodded. It was getting late, and like Jacin said, she ought to be headed home. If she was out past dark, who knew what kind of creature would find her. Especially with meat on her person. They would be attracted to the smell. And when they realized that not only did she have meat, but that she was meat--she didn't like to think about that.
"I will," she promised. Jacin was so kind, giving to those who couldn't hunt. She flashed him a smile. It inspired her, his kindness. She wanted to help others too. "I'll be going home now. Thank you for everything!" She moved to turn towards the village. Best to take it at a run, she thought. There'd be no chance a wittu would come this close to home, not if it was smart. The guards were prepared, should that happen. She took off at a dash, turning only to wave at him.
"Thank you for saving me!"

Jacinthus gave a nod, "Good to hear that, I will see you later then, Meri." He said, giving her a smile before he headed on his way. He would see about dropping off all of the meat before he saw about dealing 'leftovers' of the creature that he had brought back and butchered out. It was yet another task for him to tackle but he didn't really mind. All that he would have to do is get rid of the body through burying it so that it didn't attract anything dangerous to their village. It was up to him to keep people safe after all, he refused to draw in any danger.
After giving Meri one last glance he headed on his way at a rapid pace, off to do his deliveries. The sooner they were done, and burying the rest of the Witu was done, he would be able to get cleaned up and get back to Takoda. How he looked forward to that. Work first though, then he would be able to relax.
