"What will Cwen buy?" She asked, still holding her hand and being careful not to scratch her. Physical contact was such a rarity that Eyvør never practiced retracting her claws. They shortened at times to about half their original length to improve practicality, but that was all.

There was a flutter. She looked up to see two large moths preparing for a landing. She held out her hand and they reattached themselves as two of her fingers. It was a strange sensation - to have something elsewhere and then rejoin with the rest of you to perform a whole other function. They carried no new information. This was problematic.

"The sava-- vampires," she corrected, "are too secretive to draw information from. They are paranoid as well, so entering their private conversations is difficult. Do you think, if you host a party in the woods, some main figures will join and perhaps, with intoxication and the giddiness of merry social interaction, they will leak information. If not, your reputation will be boosted and you might get into their close circles." She was surprised by her sentence formations. She felt proud of being able to talk normally again after spending only a few hours flying around the market place and private streets and listening to snippets of conversations.

There was a sudden chill in the wind. Her smirk fell and her eyes grew dull. It was like the happiness was sucked out of the atmosphere for a little while. Everything normalized again. She looked about her, cautious and a little frightened.

"I want to buy a certain violin." She thought of all the instruments in her music room. "I think it would be a wonderful addition to the music room." She also had a strange fascination with the previous owner, but felt that adding that information was unnecessary.

"And I think to host a party is an excellent idea, but where in the forest shall I host it. Certainly more closer to the edge, as so many vampires are experiencing paranoia. I do believe the king might even make an appearance." It was a fine idea. She would focus on the nobles. Try and infiltrate the ranks.

"Come let us get you back home. I should probably also make my way home. People will wonder what I am doing alone in the forest. And I have a party to plan." She thought of Jaime and the people that left with her. It was strange that I did not leave with them, but I stayed for Eyvør's sake and I do not regret it. One day I will return home and enjoy the familiar air of my family home. She thought of the richly decorated mansion and the expanse of gardens. It is the image that always haunts her dreams at night.

Once they reached Ýr, Eyvør grabbed hold of Cwen's elbow. Her antennas flattened and her face seemed almost human if it was not for her ears and ash coloured hair. Her blue eyes were calm as though she had spent her childhood in sophisticated society instead of lurking around the wild like an animal.

"Cwen," she started in a light, innocent tone. "You promised you would bring me new fabrics and read with me. You didn't forget, did you?"

The roots of her hair became a soft chestnut brown, flowing in streaks of colour down to the tips. Her ears retreated beneath her hair, shortening, and her skin became fairer, breaking out with light freckles across her nose and cheeks. She blinked and allowed herself to smile.

"I haven't done this in quite a while," she said, looking down at her hands as they slowly morphed from earthy coloured claws into delicate, slender fingers. The blue and dusty black patterns were slow to fade, as was her external vertebra slow to retract, but her wings and golden swirls smoothed into her skin. She uttered an embarrassed chuckle and wrapped the long fore-piece of her gown around her hips.

"Besides, there's a shadow in the forest," Evvy said this without genuine concern. Her intuition told her that it would not harm her unless she got in its way, but with the proposition that its way should be identified, she did not disagree.

Cwen stared at Eyvør and smiled. "You look pretty." She touched her cheek gently and walked to the base of the tree where she left a tightly wrapped parcel. Inside were three new pieces of fabric, all rich and light. The first was a sapphire blue, the second a deep wine red and the third a olive green. On top of the fabrics were two new books. It was wrapped in a thick black material to protect it.

"Here you go," she pointed to the parcel at the base of the tree. "I will visit you again soon. I need to get home and see to some things." Cwen twirled a strand of hair around her finger and tucked on it lightly. "You be good and look after yourself. Next time I'll bring you the same plum material as my dress." She picked up the parcel and handed it to Eyvør and walked to the tree and touched the trunk.

Cwen reluctantly pulled away, stiffened and smelled the air. She spun around in a crouch and while facing the big tree, let out a long hiss. Her eyes turned a dangerous crimson as she slowly retreated from the tree, pulling Eyvør by her arm. After struggling to regain control she reached a level of calm and straightened herself. "Show yourself creature!"

Show yourself, creature? Vadimas raised an eyebrow, wondering whether he should be amused or annoyed. The presumption of these Otherworld beings to order me around like a Common of flesh and blood. He allowed himself to melt into the shadows and gently flow from tree to tree. He curled up one adjacent to the girl's home and watched the two from above. The more he observed them, the more intrigued he became, especially since the young one shifted into an almost human form. He waited a few more moments before flowing to the ground noiselessly behind them and becoming a solid humanoid shape once more. He reached out with a tendril of his mind and found that her name was Cwen.

"Very suspicious," he hissed from behind her, "to find the lady Cwen lurking about this habitat with an unknown. Tell me. Does your king know of this creature," he asked, examining his nails and pulling more information off of her from the realm on the other side. He could feel her other self coil in that realm, a stench of distrust. It willingly gave him the image of a violin at auction, hoping to keep him from further information; what her shadow-self gave him was more than it assumed. He grinned. "Perhaps if he knew you were here, he would not allow you to set foot on the estate, and then how would you purchase that lovely violin," he asked in slightly mocking tones, still looking at his long, slender finger tips.

Cwen's lips curled back to reveal her canines. How dare he even hint at telling the king. Her eyes glowed red again, but she stood poised and took a deep breath. "I don't care about the violin. But this one," she motioned to Eyvør, "Is another matter entirely." She took a step forward, closing the already small gap. "And to ease your mind on what I'm doing here alone with an unknown, my answer is that I am quite able to take care of myself and I love hunting alone in this habitat. She was becoming dangerously protective, but managed to pull all of herself back into her conscious mind where she could manipulate herself.

Eyvør, who could read Cwen's emotions blindfolded, touched her arm then turned to the stranger. Cwen let herself be edged back and Eyvør admired the unknown creature. Then Eyvør's ethereal voice broke the little tense silence, "Why make enemies upon the first meet. Would anyone like some tea?"

Cwen stared at the man, who wasn't truly a man. She was weary, but something about him intrigued her. Maybe it was his knowledge about the violin that unsettled her. She closed off her mind. I wanted to go home, but I guess that depends on his answer now.

Vadimas's face broke into genuine interest. "I've never had it. What sort of brew is it? Something like hailfire milk? Or more like birchwax venom?" He carefully eyed the Sun Walker. The smaller one - the unknown - seemed to have some small power over her. She calmed her, held her to her senses with just a touch. He vowed to watch the two interact more closely over this "tea".

He felt the pull of the king's summon, but pushed it back easily. The king was not so strong as he thought himself; he would just have to wait until Vadimas was good and ready.

Eyvør smiled at his ignorance. It wasn't a smug expression, but rather one of affection which was, of course, entirely irrational and improbably. She went into the kitchen-area and poured them all a cup and presented these to them on a self-made wooden platter. She placed this on a stump beside Ýr and sipped from her cup. The mixture was warm and naturally sweet with a slight Ceylon aftertaste.

"What brings you to our humble abode?" Evvy asked kindly. Her demeanor was entirely relaxed despite the forest's energy that seemed to cower in his presence.

Vadimas sniffed the cup curiously and was assaulted by a light aroma he couldn't quite place. He frowned, already deciding it would be terrible, and took a sip; his assumptions were correct. He hastily placed it upon the stump and stared at it as if it had said something rude. "An errand for a lesser being, a fool." Vadimas didn't elaborate. He crossed his arms and continued to stare at the tea, as if waiting for it to do or say something. "This 'tea'... is it poisonous?"

Evvy seemed as though she was watching a baby animal trying out new food for the first time, but felt slightly offended since he was not. "Of course it's poisoned; poisoned with all the good the valley has to offer: wild roses and valerian with hints of willow and traveler's vanilla."

He sighed wistfully. "So it's not actually poisoned? I was afraid of that. Some episco venom would have done nicely. But..." He retrieved the cup and tossed it down in one gulp, cringing slightly. "Roses only kill in large doses," he mumbled, turning to the pair. "Forgive me for offending you. Your hospitality was most gracious. I am Vadimas Agrona of the fifth plane."

Ev's features lit up at the introduction and apology - mostly because she didn't expect any. "Eyvor, but feel free to call me Evvy. This is my dearest friend and guardian, Cwen. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr Agrona." She gave a little bow like she saw ladies did in the city.

"No, no, no," he said, waving his hand through the air as a dismissal. "None of that 'mister' stuff. Can't stand it. Makes me twitch. If you need to call me anything other than my given name, just call me 'Vlad.' Though I'd rather it didn't come to that," he said sourly, thinking of a certain someone who made sure to always call him Vlad when torturing him.

He felt another, sharper jab and pull; he'd had centuries of practice and ignored its insisting. "I'm very interested in how you came to Ravenheart," he told them, "Both of you."

Cwen sipped the tea slowly, eyeing Vadimas carefully. "I wanted to see more of the world and begged my father to let me. He reluctantly agreed and I set off, ending up here." She put the cup down and pushed her hair from her face. "I wonder what brought you here."

"In the pocket of a traveler," she answered without elaborating and sipped the last of her tea.
