Gone - (Backdated to after June 5th, after Natron's Crystallization.)

Natron was gone.

Gabriel was gone.

He knew going into the rift was a horrible, horrid idea. One that did not have to be done so soon after going Captain, but the General didn’t listen and off they went. Des had been more than content with the idea of just waiting till later to bond with one of those creatures. The young man could only ever remember having one youma to begin with. As it was, that had even been through strange circumstances. Though now, thinking back on it now, he would rather prefered those means, to how he had become bonded to the creature now.

At first, he couldn’t even look at the wolf, let alone summon it to his side when needed. Needless to say, that made home life a bit awkward, given the special collar from Laurelite that he’d been gifted with.

Upon arriving home, Des had stormed straight up to their room at first. It seemed, at first, that perhaps he wouldn’t come out for a while after that, but no more than five minutes had passed before the purple haired man tore from the room with the same feverish attitude. Gabriel was everywhere, and nowhere at the same time. There were possessions of his everywhere. Little reminders of things Gabriel had done, or had started and just never managed to complete. Typical Gabriel, always getting distracted. The renovated firehouse had long since been Desmond’s home. For months, maybe even a few years now, it had been more than that. It had been their home. How was he suppose to go back to living without him? How was he suppose to do any of this?

He’d been so angry with Gabriel since the trip to the mountains. Des had spent the better part of two months being stand offish and snippy with his boyfriend. And Gabriel just seemed to roll with it. He never once really questioned him or called him on his bullshit. Why? Because Gabriel was a better boyfriend than he was. Gabriel had spent the time trying to make it up to Des. Trying to get back onto his good graces. Though Des seemed to do nothing by get even angrier as time went by.

Des realized he had far more to learn about when it came to youma then he initially thought. Like, what were they really? How did Airi come to be. Was he just created in the rift? Was he some human that had been corrupted? Des had heard a few stories about how the Negaverse had moved on a school or something, but Des never dug too far into the Negaverse’s past.

But this wasn’t the time for something like that. Now, now it was time for him to deal with the fact he had a bonded youma. Not just any youma mind you, but the youma to the General who was most likely dead in a cave somewhere in the rift. The bond between the two had been broken when Gabriel became crystallized. Des figured that their bond had happened sometime shortly after that.

There was a shift to his left, and the next thing Des knew, there was a mass of black fur, stretched over him and most of the couch. The youma let out a sound akin to a sigh before draping a massive paw over the human’s lap and closing his eyes.

He had to remember that he wasn’t the only one missing Gabriel. Airi seemed to mourn in his own little way. Des wondered if the creature sometimes regretted the fact that he listened to orders and didn’t help attack. He wondered if Airi blamed him for what had happened to the General. If the youma did, he said nothing of the sort. A trait he had picked up from Gabriel, no doubt. Or at least, that’s how Des figured it to be. Des wondered just what other things they had learned because of each other. It was amazing to realize how little he knew of the pair.

Des brought a hand up, running his hand through the creature’s fur. It earned the human a lazy wag of it’s monstrous tail. Airi yawned widely as he stretched, his toes and claws fanning out in the process before he seemed to relax. Des snorted lightly. For a youma, Airi sure as hell had been spoiled in the last two months. Gabriel had most likely been treating him like the large dog he looked like, instead of the monster he really was. Which was probably a far cry from how Des had treated him. He’d been so mad with Gabriel, Des couldn’t remember just what he did to the creature, if anything at all.

Arsenic seemed to know something had been up too. The silver cat had been hopelessly needy and clingy, meowing at all hours of the day and night. An irritating noise when you’d spent the last few days awake and all you wanted was to finally crash and get some sleep. The cat padded it’s way across the living room, where she jumped up and nestled her way in between Airi’s chin and one of his arms. The two animals seemed to get along well together, which was impressive in its own right. Des wondered how long that had taken. Though, now that he thought about it, he seemed to remember Gabriel going on about them and trying to shove his phone in the others face to show off a picture or something.

Gabriel always was easily excitable when it came to things like this. He stopped his attention to Airi’s fur for a moment to move it to the cat, where he gave her fur a few soft strokes. Her ear flicked and she began to purr.

The pleasant noise did nothing had to help his thoughts however. Gabriel was gone. He knew that. Gabriel was gone, because of him. There was nothing he could do. All those times they had said they would protect one another, all those times they’d promised that they’d always be around to watch over each other. In the end, all they had been doing was lying to each other. He was gone.

One Thing After Another - (Backdated to just after June 15th, Caledonite's Force Corruption)

Des sighed as he flopped on the couch. Running his hands through his hair before scrubbing at his face.

If it wasn’t one thing, it was another.

Luka was gone now too. The difference here was Des knew where Gabriel had gone. Luka? Luka was now in a place you can’t come back from.

Luka had been corrupted into the Negaverse. Not like he had mind you. When Des had corrupted, he never had an alternate personality. Luka, apparently had one of these. Caledonia, of Cosmos. So that meant a General Sovereign had to be involved.

Alex had said it was forced. Which means Caledonia’s memory had been wiped. Meaning, he didn’t remember who he was. Who he had been. Now all he knew, was that he was Caledonite.

If he were honest with himself, Des wasn’t sure how he felt about this to be honest. While he had grown up with Luka, and his older sister Skylar, Des and Luka had never really gotten along.

Growing up, Des was the odd kid out. No sister, no brother. He’d often felt like the pitty child the Johanson’s took on a whim because, well, he was. His parents had died in a fire, and he had no family around to come claim him. The Johanson’s were the closest things he had to family. If it weren’t for them, Des wasn’t sure where he would have ended up.

It seemed like they were always fighting, Des and Luka. Luka never seemed to take their fights seriously, and Des seemed to take them too seriously. Maybe it was petty jealousy on Des’ part. Luka seemed so good at everything, where Des, in the beginning had struggled to find his thing. Then, every time he did, Luka seemed to come right in and steal it. Almost like he made it his own. Desmond could remember getting so mad about these sorts of things. Because a few short weeks later, Luka would just drop the task. Never to pick it up again. Des always wondered if Luka did those sort of things on purpose, just to infuriate him.

Guess he’d never find out now.

They’d fought over so many needless things besides that too. For as nice as Des was, he was always off on his own. Were as Luka was the lazy good for nothing who just seemed to have all the friends.

Des wondered how to tell Skylar. Wondered if he should tell Skylar. And if he did, what would he say. Would Sky be surprised with anything Des told her, or not. Should he go with Alex? Or was Alex safer off away from her? Maybe… Maybe the best bet was to not tell her.

In some way, Des realized it was weird to think that Luka wasn’t coming back. Yeah, the man was alive, but he didn’t remember anything. And even if he purified, he would just forget more of himself. Did Des really want that for him?

All those fights. All those pointless battles and arguments over nothing. Those times seemed so far away now. They seemed just as stupid now, as they did back then. Perhaps even more so.

A light laugh escaped him as he thought about it. The Johanson's were always telling them not to fight. Always trying to get them to be friends. But despite their best efforts, it never seemed to work. At least, that's what Des had thought in the beginning. That they never get along, and that they could never get along. Ever.

But, the more he thought about it, the more Des realized. That was all Luka really did. Despite their fights, Luka had always tried to push Des to do his best. And like the fool he was, Des saw it as nothing more than another kid picking on him.

Even with Kade… Luka had stated his dislike of Kade since day one. Maybe that was why he stuck with that jackass for so long. Though, he did some what love the guy… But after he and Kade had broken up, Luka had gone out of his way to thoroughly beat the living s**t outta his ex. Back then, Des couldn’t understand it. Kade had done to him, just like all of Luka’s ex’s had done… He never quite understood just why Luka did that, only to come home bruised and beaten himself.

Now however, Des realized it was because Luka was standing up for him. The green haired man had seen what people were willing to pull, and he didn’t want that to happen to Des. Luka had just been looking out for him, all this time. Like any friend would. Like any brother would. Des had just been too blinded by anger, and possibly jealousy to notice that. Some friend he was.

Damn it. How much of a ******** idiot could he be?

He had held on to these grudges for so long, hoping for what? Some chance to upstage Luka? To finally put that over grown, smirking, lazy a** lumox in his place? Real mature Des. Guess he still had some growing up to do. As well as some well overdue forgiveness. Not that it entirely mattered now. The young man he grew up with was gone. Caledonite wouldn’t know who he was regardless of what anyone said.

With a sigh, Des pushed himself off the couch. Guess the best course of action for right now, was to keep an eye out for him. He at least owed Luka that much. Alex would appreciate it, he was sure of that. It wasn’t hard to figure out that, despite everything, Alex was still worried for the man. Alex would want to make sure he was okay. Maybe Des could figure out some way to repay him for all he had done over the years. Luka would have done the same for him, if the rolls were reversed. Des was beyond sure of that.
