Perhaps he was getting better at sword fighting. He would like to think so, as he was able to see Stormy's feint attack. If only because he had done similar tricks before, and he thought it was a good move. Jason took the kick to his side, flinching at the blow, before grabbing the girls outstretched leg to trip her up and followed with a quick stab.
And of course Bix followed up with a lovely comment. Just after his awesome attack.
"I'm trying not to!" He called back before turning to Stormy. "S-sorry...I did that to a life hunter once." Except without the tripping part. "B-but it was a really good attack!"

Let's not make people cry at all, Bix, please. She was totally not going to cry. No sir. She was in control. Stressed on the inside, and certainly nervous, but in control. Even her flail to get her balance after the grab and stab was still her trying to keep her cool.
Thane derided her for her choice of action, but then again of course he would.
Gale's cheer gave her pause, though a smile came to her as she remembered the nickname. Lightning. If a storm was coming, she ought to be in her element, no? With a quick motion she touched two fingers to her temple in salute before gripping the rainslick handle of her weapon. "It's fine," she answered Jason distractedly, suddenly leaping forward with a stab. "You're doing well too." Lightning! Maybe if she kept it light and fast, loose and flowy, she could gain an advantage.
Stormy heard her big brother's advice and her smile stretched a little more; if anything, they were just whittling at each other more than anything else. She was trying, honest . . . Chel's comment, however, she wished she hadn't heard.
Cue a few mumbled words and a reddening face.

Somehow through the course of the various fights, Abbi had actually found a pair of pom poms. They weren't great, but since she was fervent enough about her friendship with Stormy, that they would just have to do. So, despite being totally unpracticed, Abbi did her best to cheer for her friend. Loudly and with abandon as to who was watching. Not that anyone was, but hey, the girl was a little sensitive to others opinions ok.
Having stopped to watch the girl put her heart and soul into cheering for Stormy, Jason might have felt a little jealous. Maybe just a little. But he pushed that aside as she was jumping at him. He managed to dodge the majority of the blow, the sword still catching him in the waist. But at least he still had a waist. The moon hunter brought his sword up to push hers out of the way, then swung it back across her stomach.
"T-thankyou!" He said, trying to smile but feeling the fool instead.
Unfortunately, for all the good cheer going on, it was only distracting her further. Jason's blow connected with a whumph that sent her packing, winded. Her hands were starting to shake with nerves because Stormy did not do well in crowds, not ones that were focusing on what she was doing. Lightning, she thought childishly, be like lightning. But the best she was getting out of it as she sucked in air was feeling like she just got struck by a bolt.
She wanted to tell them she appreciated the cheers (and felt a p***k of sympathy that Jason had no cheerleaders of his own) but maybe tone it back. It was somewhat hard to speak at the moment, though. What air she did have she used to pushed herself back into the battle, swinging again with less accuracy than before--but she did not want to be standing still. Just gotta stay on the move and keep him on his toes. Find an opening and exploit it.
Oooooh s**t. Jason hadn't intended to hit her that hard. He grimaced as she struggled to breathe and...where her hands shaking. Oh s**t did he frighten her? He must of. She was shaking in fear because she was afraid of him Dammit, he really was a a*****e.
He waited patiently for her to recorder enough to continue, making a mental note not to aim for that particular spot again. Though when she did come at him again he noted with a frown that her strike was off. It looked like she was trying to be as fast as possible. Not something that could easily be done when it appeared she needed both hands to wield the mighty weapon.
This time he didn't so much as strike as he stepped away from her swing, using his sword to direct the wild attack away from him and let her keep going, following up with a light attack on her shoulder...well, he hoped it was light.
Not quite so light. She knew immediately when her attacks were deflected that it was the wrong tactic to apply; maybe if her greatsword had been something smaller, or at least less weighty. Stormy bit down a cry as she nearly fell over from the momentum, feeling her shield growing dangerously weak. What killed her wasn't that she wasn't doing well (although it certainly gnawed at her): what really did it was that it had to be where others were watching. Cheering for her. She felt expectations weigh her down with her own anxieties.
Face set in a concentrated frown, she blinked rapidly to try and clear the raindrops clinging to her lashes before forcing herself forward again, more reserved than her previous attack. Stormy was determined to bridge this gap of waning strength, or at the very least to down fighting. The lock around her weapon seemed to belch forth more black smoke than usual as if to reflect her desperation.

SPECTATING
While grumpy over her loss she was never going to pass up a chance to watch her girls fight. Candace was supportive of them and was bothered enough by missing the first round.
So, still covered in mud, Candace had rushed to Stormy's fight to watch her. She had only seen the girl once in action, she wanted to see her up against a person.
Jason felt a twinge of sympathy upon seeing Candace join the group of spectators. He could easily see she'd been stuck in the mud pit as well. Exactly who's bright idea was it to have one?
And...was that Solia, hiding in the bushes?! Had she come to cheer him on? The very idea of her doing so made Jason's day that much brighter. He returned his attention back to the fight to see Stormy was attacking, but she was being more careful about it. He came forward to block her great sword, holding his own with both hands as he strained to keep it from hitting him, then swung his sword again to attack.
And then more people showed up, more pressure was mounted. She could easily recognize Candace's form without having to directly look at her, someone else seemed to had caught Jason's eye for a moment, and Lex's voice carried through the light rain. How could people be cheering for her when she was doing so awfully . . . ?
The sting of imminent disappointment for all those that did drove her. Stormy's jaw clenched as she let the sword strike her unprotected shield, using the energy and time she could have poured into defense to instead keep up the attacks. Thane was practically howling at her for her stupidity, the cold silence no longer enough to convey his fury through her growing light-headedness, the pounding of her heart, the sweat and rain dampening her coat and clothes.
While Zanthvos was telling him off for striking down another girl (or just winding him up as usual, it was hard to know for sure), Jason grimaced at the sight of the weary hunter and her determination to keep going. his guilt rising once more.
It was clear though she was becoming tired, her attacks weren't as strong as before. And even though he was getting tired himself, the moon trainee still had energy enough to deflect her sword strike and slash at the remnants of her FEAR shield.
