Frowning and trying to still look like he was taking this seriously ended up making him just look stupid. The frown was because of Alaska and Lands words, the serious look was because he was facing a sun hunter at the moment and could not drop his guard. He knew that sun specialized in attacking, and she did not let him down.
The attack pushed him backwards, but unlike the prior sandy battlefield it did not cushion him. Instead the crumbling earth and rocks made him stumble backwards. "Easier said than done, Land. You get to fight a Sun next time." He blinked at them both, clearing some of the fallen rain from his eyes. His own staffs cerulean runes seemed to glow a little brighter as hers sparked too, almost in response. Not wanting to let his words fall to shame, he awkwardly put himself in a defensive position once he gained his feet once again.

And bit by bit, her impression of Quinn was changing for the better. But in the end she would still call him Loser (maybe if he listened close enough he could hear a hint of affection every time she said it—)
He stumbled backwards, which only gave her the opportunity to steadily step forward with her weapons dangling in both hands. “Don’t make up any excuses, Loser. I’m still trying to learn the ropes too.” A ghost of a smile appeared on her lips while the heels of her boots clacked quietly against the ground. She blinked away the bits of raindrop falling into her eyes before she struck out again.

"Don't kick my a** next time and I might get a chance to." He taunted right back in retort to the other man's words, eyes dancing with the light of amusement. He could feel the tension sparking in the air as the first droplets of rain fell. It was going to be one hell of a storm when it made landfall...
Then again, there was potential for one hell of a storm right in front of him too. He did not envy Quinn in the slightest having to take hits from girl that he was going to dub 'The Amazon'. She seemed incredibly determined and he could probably learn a thing or two just watching her; watching the two of them, really.

"If i may say, Miss Alaska, you were put in sun for a very good reason." He even winced as the attack landed on him once more, those teeth sure had a bite! He could feel his shield once again was brittle, and close to 'that point.' Once again he felt a slight panic within. What happens when the shield drops?
"... There was no kicking involved i only tripped and landed on you. How is that kicking??" Quinn was once again taking things a little too literal, and getting a little too distracted in the conversations.

Her momentum faltered when he called out her name. “Just Alaska is fine,” she assisted, the corner of her mouth twitching. “There’s no need to add a ‘Miss.’”
It seemed the first win had really been a fluke for Quinn, but now he was here. He had managed to land a few hits, but Quinn still had a ways to go before he could call himself a decent fighter. On a whimsical note, Alaska opted to stand there with arms by her side and leaving herself wide open for him. Just this once.

"I..." His brow furrowed at that as his focus drifted from the fight before him to try and follow the train of thought that Quinn had slid down. "... Wait. What? No, not literally, I..."
It was probably for the best to not continue down that path for the moment, not wanting to be that kind of distraction at this point in the game.
"Defend, Quinn! If you're not going to hit a girl who's obviously just swingin' away at you, at least hold your staff up and block!" He turned 'cheerleader' mode back on. "Two hands, plant your feet. Absorb some of the shock!"
... And then she stood back as if just asking him to hit her.
"Or just hit her!" Not that he thought Quinn would do that, but...

Oh. She didn't like the addition he made to her name for the sake of being polite? ....He would try to remember that.
"Land remind me never to let you sit as a passenger if i ever drive us somewhere." It was a slightly off-handed way of calling Land a back seat driver, sort of.
His focus though was on the young woman in front of him, watching her curiously and almost in disbelief. Did she really, actually, leave a opening for him? ....He was still afraid of her, so call him wary if you must. He thought it was some trick. Plus, he felt odd hitting someone just standing there.
Wasn't that cheating?

“I highly doubt you’ll be driving anywhere anytime soon,” she stated in a low voice, her eyes flickering toward the side.
“…” Alaska shifted awkwardly in place when Quinn refused to attack her. He eyed her with a wary gaze, which made sense. She supposed there was no helping that. Sighing, she lifted her weapon and swung.

He huffed at that but took the hint for the moment, arms crossing over his chest as he watched intently on. Hopefully Quinn would at least listen a little; or at least think on what he'd said about defending.

Always looking too deeply at things, he wondered why she was sighing. Frustration? Anger? It was an odd sound coming from her.
"Sorry, Land." Quinn apologized, had he taken his words as an insult?
When the blow came next, Quinn replied with one of his own. Swinging the staff he used it like a bat, sort of how Land had suggested prior. "It felt weird trying to hit you when you weren't defending yourself." He felt that explained it better.

If he ever hung out with Alaska enough, Quinn would eventually realize that sighing was a common thing for me. Sighing out of frustration, anger, exasperation, relief, amusement. She sighed for everything and for different reasons. “You can settle things after the fight.”
Alaska stumbled backwards when Quinn suddenly came at her with his staff. Judging on past attacks, she had definitely not been expecting that, but it was a nice change too. She rubbed the dirt smeared across her grinning face before she jumped and brought her leiomanos upon the other hunter.

"Yeah, yeah." He smirked, shaking his head before uncrossing his arms so Quinn didn't fret himself to death. He was pretty sure that the other guy had more than enough to worry about anyways, especially with the way the Sun Huntress seemed to be getting into the fight now that he was actually hitting back.

Yup, definitely a sun. He winced as she seemed to take offense to him paying attention to them both. Sorry Land but... he would continue the conversation after the fight. Not only that but Alaska seemed invigorated by the battle, it only made her hit harder.
Quinn was breathing heavier now, sweat was mixing on his skin with the water droplets as the panic was setting in. His shield was lower than it had ever been before, or at least that was how it felt. He felt weaker.
Swinging once more he hit her again, but severely felt this might be his last one. He figured it was time to find out what really did happen when your fear shield dropped.

Finally he was putting up a decent fight, but it was too late. The end was in sight, and Alaska would seize the moment no matter what. Her eyes were as green as ever as she rushed toward Quinn with long strides. She remained silent, wordless as she pulled back and arm and solidly smacked him in the torso with her weapon. His shield flickered before crumbling. It was done.
Alaska stepped back as if to admire her work. “In the end you put in some effort. Good.” Suddenly the furrowed lines disappeared from her forehead. Her mouth twisted into a soft, warm smile as she offered a hand out to Quinn.

The shield broke, as he expected it would. His anxiety skyrocketed as he felt those toothed items cut through the shield, it crumbling around him. He was scared, he even closed his eyes. THe force of the attack had sent him backwards to land on the ground, his weapon disappearing.
Only.... it didn't really feel much different. Besides the ground suddenly hurting a lot more on his butt, it wasn't much different. There was a undertone in his mind that screamed 'vulnerable, danger danger,' but that was all. Opening one eye first, he caught sight of the outstretched hand. He looked at it for a second, pondering once again if it was some trick... but he voted it was a risk worth taking. He allowed her to pull him to his feet. "I guess i cant say i didn't at least try then. Good fight." Even if a little one sided, it was no wonder. She was a Sun and thus a power house. He was a life, and thus a bit of a nerd. Awkward and all.
He still met her smile with one of his own.
