Walpurgis pinched the bridge of his nose. He really should have known better than to expect a straight answer - it was clearly a sensitive topic for the girl. Regardless, it didn't really matter. "Alright."
The girl seemed visibly relieved at his acquiescence. "So you don't want to go back to Miss Kiremono's gym, then?"
Lenore shook her head. "No. Not yet, anyway."
Walpurgis nodded. "Very well. Nevertheless, it would be remiss of me to simply send you away without a place to stay. While I can't let you stay here, I know a police officer back in town that could give you lodging for a while. Is that acceptable?"
The girl thought over his words silently before nodding. "Yeah. That's fine."

Lenore watched the man step outside and pull out a cell phone. She couldn't make out what he was saying, but every so often he looked back at her.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
The girl turned away from the window to face Mephistopheles. "I said I was."
The dusclops seemed to look right through her. "That isn't what I asked. I'm sorry for not believing you, but you collapsed and were unconscious for nearly an entire day."
Lenore sighed. "I don't know, Mef. I don't know what happened. That's the truth."
Before Mephistopheles could reply, Dr. Lothar stepped back into the cabin. "Sorry for the wait; Officer Hartmann will be here shortly." He paused. "I should warn you, however, that Miss Hartmann is a tad... eccentric. But she's still a good person."

A knock came at the door a short time later. "Oi, Dr. Lothar! It's me, open up!"
Remembering the last time he had called Erika over to take care of a girl, Walpurgis opted to remain seated. "The door is open, Miss Hartmann."
The door swung open and the officer stepped in, frowning pointedly at Walpurgis. "Y'know, a gentleman would've opened the door for a lady."
Walpurgis merely smiled as if it were some sort of inside joke, continuing to sit. "A lady doesn't get intoxicated to the point of being completely smashed before slamming the door open when a gentleman goes to open it for her."
Erika's face reddened slightly. "Dude, I said I was sorry."
Walpurgis stood up. "Even so, you'll have to forgive me if I take precautions in the seemingly likely case that you show up drunk."
The officer pouted, her shoulders slumping slightly. "I wouldn't be drunk right now!"
"Oh?"
Erika perked up, grinning playfully. "Yeah, I mean, TECHNICALLY I'm on the job right now, so Ms. By-the-books would give me a stern finger wagging."
Walpurgis sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Miss Hartmann, you could have come at the end of your shift."
Erika shrugged as she looked around. "Yeah I know. Your place is WAY more fun, though." The officer walked over to a bookshelf and pulled out a book before flipping it upside down and putting it back. "Organized as s**t, too." Walpurgis sighed and shook his head.

Erika turned her attention to Lenore and Mephistopheles. "Alright, then. Sleeves and Spooks, you're comin' with me."
Lenore looked down at her overly long sleeves before looking back at Erika, tilting her head. "I'm 'Sleeves', then?"
Erika laughed before turning to Walpurgis. "Smart one ya picked up, Dr. Lothar!" She turned back to Lenore and grinned. "Yeah, you're Sleeves, and Spooks over there is Spooks. Anyways, my place is down in town, but once we get out of the forest we can take a car. Let's go!" The officer turned on her heel and marched out of the cabin.
Lenore watched the woman go and shrugged. Better than going back to Shina's, for now. She turned to Mephistopheles. "Let's go, Mef." The dusclops nodded and the two followed after Officer Hartmann.
