Wasn't the original pokemon considered to be one of the better seasons. I actually liked it better than the later ones. At least before the anime sorta went downhill as time went on...
And yeah I thought 4kids did an alright job with it. Sure it was edited as with most of the anime they dubbed and stuff.(I have no idea why they called a rice ball a donut.. lol) But they did keep most of the original soundtracks.
That opening is pretty nostalgic too. xP
