Natsu jumped as he was scowled at, his expression falling short of sorrowful. He wasn't trying to ruin it, he was simply admiring it, what was with this kid? He set the flute down delicately, as if it were glass, and finished unpacking the items. Perhaps he shouldn't try to be so touchy-feely, it seemed to be causing problems between them.

"Alright, I'm at your call." He replied, sitting cross legged once more. "Tell me everything that I will need to know."

Kujo almost felt sorry for his outburst after seeing the wounded expression on Natsu's face... almost. He still didn't appreciate people touching his things, and perhaps the boy wasn't the best at sharing. He was an only child after all. And seemed to be on the privileged side of things with all the instruments that Natsu was now carefully unpacking.

Kujo tied his hair back, as if ready to get down to business and pursed his lips. He wasn't inspired for this. He wasn't ready and partly wasn't willing to spill all of his grandfather's stories to this stranger. It could be mostly read in his body language; he was crossing his arms and not looking directly at Natsu. When he did, he tried to pretend he wasn't interested in what was going on with his eyes.

he sighed an almost overly exaggerated sigh and lean backward onto his hands. "Well, first of all you should know that he's not fair and treats his grand kids with too little respect. We can start with that one." His face turned even more sour, and he huffed more. His version of a temper tantrum. "Alright, let's get this over with." Kujo let his head swivel for a moment, as if he was unwinding and began his tale.

He told of Bardin Rea in all of his glory, though through a veil of distaste and whining, and let Natsu fill in the blanks. After all that Kujo was giving him, Natsu had better come up with one hell of a funeral ballad.

[This is Natsu's chance to come up with something good. Come up with a funeral ballad, using whatever you need to get it done. It can be as long or as short as necessary, then continue RPing as normal.]

Natsu, listening dutifully, grabbed a piece of spare charcoal and an old scroll, and started to write. He hoped what he was writing was accurate, or at the very least acceptable.

Bardin Rea, a name not soon forgotten,
Was a man of song and glory, and loved by all and many.
He traveled days and nights, gathering memories for his songs,
Passing them down for the generations to hear after he was gone.

Bardin Rea, a man to look up to,
Now old and worn from life's harsh toils,
Sent his beloved grandson, Kujo, upon a long and tiring journey,
So he may find another man to tell his legends to.

This man, hailing from Mez,
Took his teacher's words in dutifully,
And gave his time and his heart,
To give this ballad it end and start.

Bardin Rea, although in passing,
Will never truly die,
For his legends and his life,
All linger within Kujo's eyes.

Now this young man, strong and proud,
Is to be Bardin Rea's honored successor,
To him be blessed, to him be fair,
And allow him to grow up without compare.

Bardin Rea, though seen as unfair,
Must see something that Kujo cannot,
Perhaps in watching his grandson grow,
A spark of similarity started to show.

"Alright, I hope this is something you appreciate." He said, his face sort of crooked. He felt like he had written something pretty terrible, and was prepared for a backlash.

Kujo waited with impatience as Natsu wrote down what he had in mind. It felt like it was taking forever. He tapped his foot and then held out his hand without enthusiasm as Natsu stated he was finished.

He looked it over, his eyes betraying the interest he was hiding as he saw his name come up a couple of times. Once he finished what he was reading, he aimed his eyes at Natsu without lifting his head and scoffed. "I guess it's a good start for someone like you." He tilted his head before laying the piece of paper down in front of the both of them. "This part has to go." He pointed to the stanza about the man hailing from Mez. "You can't put yourself into a whole section of the song. It looks cocky. Take it out."

He shook his head before continuing. "Replace it with something else. Another thing my Grandfather's known for. It's nice and all, but there's not a lot about him in here. Mostly me." There was a glint in his eyes as he said it, like he would have hated for those parts to come out, which he would, so he added, "Don't take out anything else besides that one stanza. Just add... more." Kujo spoke almost with excitement, as if he was actually enjoying the process, which wasn't far from the truth.

[Natsu has to write a second version appealing to the critique that Kujo left him. Refine and revise, then continue with the RP]

Natsu nodded, crossing the stanza out, before sketching in it's replacement.

Bardin Rea had traveled far, as all the tales suggested,
From meetings with the High Council of Zena,
To bringing songs to Tale and beyond,
A colorful life of adventure, a treasure to behold.

Bardin Rea, although in passing,
Will never truly die,
For his legends and his life,
All linger within Kujo's eyes.

Now this young man, strong and proud,
Is to be Bardin Rea's honored successor,
To him be blessed, to him be fair,
And allow him to grow up without compare.

Perhaps in watching his grandson grow,
A spark of similarity started to show.

"I'm willing to change anything else as well, Kujo." He said, handing the paper back to the boy.

The paper was placed out for inspection once more and Kujo looked it over with more concentration than the first time, even though only a stanza was changed.

After a while he nodded briefly and looked up to Natsu. "I guess it's not bad." He handed the paper back, still enthused that he was mentioned more than once, and in such high praise. His grandfather didn't get it, but this guy did. Or maybe he was just doing it specifically to flatter Kujo. Whatever worked, right? He wasn't complaining.

"Alright. That took a while, and it's late. I'm calling it a night." He stretched out over a large portion of the available space, probably intentionally just to be intrusive and a little rude. "We're gonna have to get up early tomorrow if you're going to deliver this yourself." He feigned a large yawn and put his head on his arms, staring at the ceiling.

Natsu flopped over like a dead log as Kujo laid down, more than content to curl up for the night. He reached his arm outward and lazily tugged at the bunched up blankets in the corner, before scooting forward to pull them over he and Kujo.

"I'm not exactly tired, but if you want to rest, I'll stay here with you." He said, rolling over onto the side and grabbing a book from a near by shelf. "Care for a story or anything before bed? I'm going to read something from my brother's journal, he often rants in his diaries and it amuses me greatly."

Kujo lifted an eyebrow with a dubious expression. Was this guy serious? Well, he must have been.

He shrugged his shoulders and rolled over onto his other side. "You do what you want with your time. We're getting up before the sun rises tomorrow to make the trip so just make sure you wake up." Kujo remarked. He wouldn't say it, but he really was tired. And he wasn't lying: they would get up before the sun rose.

Natsu rolled his eyes and made a popping sound with his lips.

"Suit yourself, this journal's pretty funny." He said, turning to read it. However, before he could get three pages in, the book fell from his hands, and the Rogue was sound asleep. His head hit the pillow like a sack of bricks, and it might have sounded like them too.

The sky was just barely starting to turn gray, the lights of early morning touching its fingers into the air, when not so gentle fingers poked at a sleeping Natsu. Kujo was hanging over Natsu's sleeping form pushing him to wake up from his sleep. It was time to go.

"Alright, we need to pack back up and you need to gather your things so we can move out. I want to be home before the day is over." Kujo sat back on his heels and gave Natsu one last poke to get up before moving to his things. They would need to be out of here soon if they were going to get back before nightfall.

Kujo packed his things as carefully but as quickly as he could, waiting for Natsu to finish his share. "Alright, let's go." The trip would be long, but they would be there before it was too deep into nightfall.

Natsu, despite being a very cheery individual, was the most ugly morning person you could ever lay eyes on. He wriggled at the poking, curled into the blankets, and gave a long, loud yawn. This kid wasn't kidding when he said they were getting up early... He rolled out of bed, sat cross legged, and rubbed his eyes. Man, Kujo was quick... He shook his head, stood, hobbled, and quickly gathered his things.

"I have to warn you, my mind takes a little while to wake up..." He muttered, grabbing items and shoving them into bags. He seemed to be grabbing whatever he could see or feel in his current hand to eye ratio. Things like useless trinkets, paper, and rocks were gathers into his personal bag as well as the odd useful, imperative item. Then, once he finished packing his personal bags, he moved to pack his share of Kujo's items. The heavier things were handled with care, but it did seem that he wasn't really registering what things were the most fragile or not. All in all, once he was ready, he turned his tired eyes towards Kujo, and gave him his best smile.

"Lead the way, I'll be right behind you." He said, brushing his rat's nest of hairstyle away from his eyes. Hopefully he would wake up before too long.

The trip was indeed long, with the sun beaming overhead most of the way. The Sauti ground was cold and bounced a chill back up into the air. It was winter time, and the closer they got to the Zena border, the colder the air became until there started to be a light snow falling from the sky.

The trip was quiet. Kujo's mind was fully focused on getting home to Liem at this point and the only sound to break into the air was the crunching of the snow underfoot.

They finally reached the small village, but when they did it wasn't the festivities of the winter season that greeted them. The hustle and bustle of trade had seemed to cease and even the children were not out in the snow. Kujo shook the snow out of his hair before running ahead to the center of the small village. "Where is everyone?"

He ran forward toward his grandfather's home and was stopped by a woman with the same blonde hair who had exited the building before Kujo could enter. She put a firm hand on his shoulder and shook her head. "Kujo, you shouldn't go in there..." She trailed off. She looked worried and indescribably sad and woeful. Kujo looked up at her with a grimace and brushed her hand off. "What do you mean I can't go in there?"

He looked back at Natsu with a scowl and waved him forward. "I brought the guy Grandfather wanted, now let me in." He demanded.

She only looked at him with sad stern eyes.

Natsu, freshly woken by the snowfall, seemed full of vigor and cheer, until he saw the woman's disposition. He paused, hesitantly, and heaved a sigh. Oh... This didn't look like a good sign. His eyes quickly went from lively to sorrowful, and he bent down next to Kujo.

"As much as I would love to present our song to your grandfather, Kujo..." He began, gazing up towards the woman. "I don't think he would be... Able to..."

He leaned away, placing his hands at his sides, his gaze moving towards the snowfall.
"I apologize, really, I do." He said. "This is a family affair and, despite the most gracious invitation, I feel as though I am breaching privacy. I think it would be best for..." He gave a glance to Kujo, before returning to the snow. "...The younger ones if I leave it to the family to... Discuss the final song."

Kujo seemed to realize what was going on before Natsu even opened his mouth to speak. He pushed through the woman and ran into the house, slamming the door behind him.

Now that he was gone, the woman looked sadly to Natsu. "I'm Bardin's daughter and Kujo's mother. My father passed late last night. I think it might have been better that Kujo wasn't here for that, but please, we were waiting to hold the service for when Kujo returned. We need someone for the service to sing the song, and on such short notice, we can't bring anyone here to do it. Please sing on behalf of my father?" She pleaded.

The funeral was to be held that day, and there would be no time for final preparations. The people of Liem were already preparing their homes for mourning.

Natsu watched Kujo run away with great pain in his eyes. Part of him really wanted to pick him up and snuggle him, just for a little while. But snuggles and cuddles would have to wait, a realization that was worse than the pains of any poison. His heart was crippling!

Still, as Kujo's mother stood before him, pleading him to sing for the village in mourning, he swallowed as much of the sadness as he could and took a deep breath.

"Absolutely." He said. "But I won't just be singing for your father's behalf, but for yours and that of your son's. Kujo is an amazing kid, very smart and independent. I want to sing for your father just as much as I want to sing for him, and your entire village. It's an honor."
