Zar's tail twitched even more irritably the longer Calder lingered at the desk. "I am sure you do." he said with thinly restrained annoyance. As far as he was concerned, what monsters offered was the primal, instinctual guardianship and if ghosts were anything to go by, blind loyalty.
He understood the premise of a herd sketchily, much in the same way he understood the human concept of a couple sketchily, both were built into his instincts but neither held sway over the truer thread of his nature, that of demonic and unfaithful inclination. Still, he was surprised to find himself classed even so close as to be defined as a herd mate, just as he'd been surprised to hear himself defined as something as scandalous as a long term business partner.
Deep down though it wasn't a negative sensation, an alternative to the grey, flat and unwanted unhappiness he had felt for a very long time. He felt part of something - which in itself was a very dangerous emotion for a demon to feel.
Self conciousness knotted up with dismay at the mention of the desk, and finally just a spike of annoyance managed to break through his control. "I wasn't aware I was in some way competing with you."

Calder didn't just linger, he pulled the desk chair over and sat down, looking at the desk as if judging the ghost of what had happened there and debating what to do about it.
"Really? I know demons sort of pass by the night or use each other, but Barth is not just any demon and he's also tied in with me. I'm part of his world, which means you are part of mine. If he's bringing someone into the herd, I have to address it. Barth also has a limited energy reserve, and I like to....what is that 'm' word.." Calder snapped his fingers a moment as he thought of it before stopping. "..minopolize it as much as possible. Just because I'm not a demon, doesn't mean I'm not greedy. I like my Rosebud, and you have to understand you are a new colt in our group. As Lead, I want to make sure you know your place. While you may offer Barth certain aspects only a demon can provide, I am still his first and foremost mate."
He set his hand on the counter-top, letting his hand graze over the surface before resting at a set of grooves. "I would consider competing to be a bit loose here though. You're still young, and I've know Barth intimately much longer than you." He smiled as he looked up from the desk. "..and I'm sexier than you."

The chair was expensive, comfortable and even had room to accommodate a tail. Zar didn't like Calder sitting in it one bit, he had to bite back the scathing comments that threatened to bubble over at the sight.
"Firstly. I am likely older than you are." he held up a taloned finger, even if he wasn't, he was unshakably convinced he was, at least mentally older than the other boil was giving him credit for. "Secondly, you are more than welcome to monopolise Barth's waking energy, I have little interest in staking a claim on anything in that context. I don't desire a mate." From his perspective the idea of being a mate was handing out a great deal of freebies for very little return. "And thirdly, if you must refer to me as something, it would be a buck." He smiled with that same saccharine sweetness. Equines.
The constant barrage of reminders of his inferiority was setting him on irritable edge and he knew picking a fight was pointless machismo, but unfortunately that didn't mean that Calder's words rankled his pride any less. "Purely subjective opinions." he stated calmly.

"A buck? You do have the rack, but I don't see you as the type to lock horns with anyone. A bit mess for a demon like you, right?" He leaned into the chair, shifting his shoulders as he used the uncomfortable back to scratch between his shoulder blades.
"And even if you are older in some way, I'm still a third year. My fear is more powerful than whatever weak drink you're offering." He leaned back and, balancing as he could, set his hooves up on the desk, his kilt sliding a bit but without concern from the kelpie. It was clear by Calder's hooves that he had been running, and little flecks of dried swamp mud sprinkled on the desk top.
"Demons love to think of themselves as all might and powerful, don't they? I don't consider this subjective. Many people would agree. Demons have their magic, status, and wealth, but monsters have a long history of taking pride in our bodies and what they can do. Put a incubi against a kelpie and all preconceptions would go out the window. A demon just can't match to the raw energy of a stallion."

"One doesn't always have to be literal when one locks horns." he said with a dismissive wave of his claws. He was going to have to completely scour that chair clean. And the desk. He made a face at the comment on the year disparity aswell, as if he'd tasted something that didn't please him in the least. "I do not dispute that. Facts are facts. My fear is not the only thing I offer however."
His tail lay flat along the floor at this point, it's full length, longer than he was tall, looped in vague S shapes across the polished wood, with only the very tip flicking like an irate cat. "It is futile to argue with you, you are clearly set in your stubborn if erroneous opinions and the only way to correct you would be to give example. And I do not intend to do so. So if you are quite done attempting to intimidate me.."

He grunted, crossing his arms before he took his hooves off the desk. Boring. Always boring. This entire place was boring. Rising from the chair, he kicked it aside, uncaring if it was broke or not. "Fine. Didn't expect a fight from you anyways."
Tail flicking, he walked past Zar's tail and past him. "Have fun being boring." He said, and headed for the door. Maybe he'd go out and find some mini to rip apart. That might help. Then he could annoy Barth some more.

Zar's grin simply widened at Calder's irritation. He felt like he had won simply by evading a fight, intellect always outwitted the savage beast.
"Sometimes its the fight you don't expect you have to look out for." he said.
"Ta ta then~"

"Oh, I'll be looking forward to that fight." He stepped at the door and looked over his shoulder. "Till then." He flicked his tail once more and left.
