"Ya pretty much, Trynt shut the ******** up!" He meant to add the second part mentally, but he was becoming so aggravated by the way his weapon got offended or angry at any mention of a dragon that he was just done with thinking things through.

At least it seemed to quiet his snarling, raging weapon down quite a bit. It was with some relief that Finn was able to dodge another swing sent at him by his sparring partner, taking the brunt of the blow against the shaft of his lance, though the sword just glided along it's length and struck against his wrist painfully, causing a sharp hiss to escape between clenched teeth before he maneuvered back and struck forward in a stabbing motion, keeping as much distance as he could between himself and the sword that Jack wielded.

Thank god for long weaponry.

"He's got this weird thing against dragon's, I don't even know, man. I think he's pouting now." Or at least, Trynt's version of it, which was to quietly rumble and mumble and growl in a language that Finn didn't understand, though when he struck at Jack again, there was definitely a hint of satisfaction in his weapons tone.

At the farm boy comment, Finn simply shook his head. "Ya, in Canada you ********. That's a far cry from this tropical mess."

Jack barked out laughter, half because he was glad he wasn't the only one finding problems adjusting to these "partners", half because it was always great to see Finn getting mad. Well, really, it was fun to see anyone get mad really. Then it got harder to laugh as he was winded from the less than stellar attempt at defending.

"Oh, I'm very aware of how clueless you are dealing with a hot mess." Okay, maybe not so hard.

Backing away, Jack gulped in air and silently cursed how hot it was getting--his grip kept slipping, but it wouldn't do to look unprofessional at his second spar at Deus, most especially with someone like Finn.

"Owain's a piece of work, I'll admit. Less angry cannibalistic giant and more book nerd," he drawled. "Makes me wonder if some of the tablets become defunct after a time."

Jack's little joke, while it might have been amusing to the green haired giant, fell completely flat for Finn, who was barely able to break a smile for it, his eyes as cold and concentrated as ever. He knew his chances of winning with a very defensive weapon was slim, and also knew, because of Trynt's snarling prompts, he could put up a barrier right now to block out Jack's next move.

But it seemed rather pointless when his opponent was barely doing a thing except sweating all over the damn place. Speaking of hot messes.....

Dodging to the side, Finn turned and swung his lance at Jack, once again at what he thought was a fairly safe distance.

"Oh? Well that doesn't actually sound too bad." He admitted with a light shrug of the shoulders. It indeed sounded better then having a raging, snarling beast growling in his head all day over every little thing.

"Hey man, come on! Step up your game here a bit, I'm getting bored!"

At least he was hot when messy.

"Nah, though not the definition of scary. s**t!" Jack suddenly cursed, testing a swing and letting the tip hit the ground to rub his wrists. "Battling is not my forte, let's get that out of the way." More importantly, it meant Finn was his superior in something that actually mattered, which was unacceptable.

He wiped his hands and hastily grabbed the zweihander again. "Alright, Finnicky, have any tips you feel like imparting in your infinite wisdom?" he asked, switching to milder names despite his deepest impulse to say assery instead.

Finn let out a laugh as he watched his friend struggle, a sense of satisfaction tugging up the corners of his mouth even while his eyes stayed just a narrowed and focused. It seemed his own training was paying off, his grip on his weapon becoming more comfortable.

"Oh it isn't? I could barely tell." He smirked, while rolling the lance between his fingers, letting the magenta blades spin and glint in the sunlight, the runes along them glowing bright. He appeared nonchalant, like he was perhaps planning on taking a small break himself.

And then he swung the lance again, aiming it`s bladed spikes for Jack`s shoulder.

Tips? Infinite wisdom? Finn scoffed a laugh before replying. "Like you would listen to me anyways, Jack-off. No, I've got nothing for you. No advice at all. I'm just a lowly trainee, like you, after all."

Jack cursed as he fell forward, the swing delayed and feeling less controlled than he liked (though admittedly better than before at least).

"Really, Finn? I thought we were friends," he said amicably, if one could through gritted teeth of frustration. He knew being fresh from the pods meant he had room to be less than perfect, but even an inch was embarrassing. The size of the weapon apparently did not mean more power.

If anything, it just made things more cumbersome.

(( You'll get used to it! )) Owain piped up optimistically. (( This is your first fight after all. ))

Finn took the hit in the arm, taking a jump back when that sword came swinging at him in a wild arc. Jack was really struggling right now, and it was pretty apparent in the way he attacked, the awkwardness with which he held his weapon. Finn wouldn't have been surprised if this was his first time even using it, and he well remembered the days when Trynt still felt completely foreign in his hands.

Luckily, those days were over.

"Okay fine, bro. You want advice? Listen to your damn weapon, it know's what it's talking about, and it will help you learn and understand how to use it better." There, very sagely, right? Okay maybe not really. It was more common sense than anything.

He could feel Trynt's startlement rather than hear it, bewildered that Finn had actually given him a compliment of any sort. It was short lived, however, because then a voice hissed through his mind as well.

< I am ready when you are, if you would like to try making me fly again. >

Finn didn't even have to ask what Trynt meant. He just gave a mental nod of affirmation.

"And when your weapon has enough Fear, it can teach you to do something cool like this." He grinned, unable to hold it back as he began spinning his Lance in a circle with two hands, practically able to feel the energy, the raw power building, before he flung him up into the air with one final tip of his fingers, putting the lance in a spin that helicoptered over his had, a magenta and white blur in the sky that. while spinning, began to form a shield of air, an actual miniature cyclone that spun down from it and surrounded Finn in it's shielding embrace.

He stared at Jack from inside, with the smuggest look on his face imaginable, his arms coming up to cross over his chest. his hair ruffling in a cyclonic wind that whipped up dust and debris around him, and that would stop anything that tried to break through.

Vaguely sagey, absolutely sassy--close enough. Owain rumbled something happily along the same veins, but Jack was busy watching Finn turn into a helicopter. One that didn't get to fly. Way to get his hopes up, man.

Can you do something like that? he asked his partner, eying the miniature cyclone around Finn warily.

(( No. Mine is far simpler! Although I wouldn't recommend it against that sort of shield, especially given our track record right now . . . Wait until it abates. ))

Only Jack didn't feel like waiting. What was the point of these unique attacks if he didn't get to study how they worked? He knew better than to test his own charge against the unknown, but a regular strike ought to do the trick. Bracing himself, Jack leapt forward and fought against the wind, wondering if the weight of his weapon could cut through it.

It was very clear, very swiftly, that he could not. Instead, Jack was forced back by the crosswinds, the zweihander digging into the soil to balance himself. "Well then! Congratulations, Finn, you've blown me away," he shouted with a grin. "But it'll take more than passing wind to win."

Finn barked out a laugh, the miniature cyclone dying down shortly after his attempted attack, only able to last so long. His weapon, Trynt, spun in the air a few more times before dropping, and Finn shot out a hand to grab it, spinning it back in front of himself.

He was so glad he had finally made himself practice with this weapon before now, otherwise he might have just made himself look like an idiot by stabbing himself in the foot.

Smirking, he quickly swung out with the weapon, slashing at Jack yet again.

"How about you blow me after we're finished here?" He asked with a wink, once again knowing just how to rile his friend up, but he finished the question with another laugh, changing the subject quickly.

"Honestly, and as you can see now, this weapon was meant more for defense then offense, despite how it looks. You should really be kicking my a** by now, Jackie-boy."

"Finn, I swear to God sometimes . . ." The lance moved past his attempt to ward it off, earning a curse.

(( Good news, dear one! We can strike back now! ))

The runes of his weapon were glowing, which was as strong a cue as he would ever get (besides Owain's bubbly enthusiasm at showing off). Hefting the weapon, Jack let the collected Fear flow through the sword as his partner instructed--and on instinct ran forward to strike. It felt much lighter than before, though the weight was still apparent upon impact.

"Let's be fair: you've had more time to flail that thing around," Jack pointed out as the charge finished, the zweihander sagging in his grasp. "Give me some time and I'll be kicking your a** to next Sunday."

The strike against his Fear shield was staggering, and indeed, Finn did stumble backwards several steps, Jack's attack breaking the tight hold he had with two hands on his weapon and slamming him in the chest. He could almost hear the effect it had on his shield, as he imagined it creaking and cracking under the strain of such force.

How are we doing?

< Fine, just keep hitting him.> Was the snarled reply, and Finn was happy to oblige.

"Fft, like that's any kind of excuse. I've been here for a whole two months now, but...." But what? Only just finally accepted that he had joined this military group for reason? Only just, in the last couple of weeks, finally got off of his a** to make an effort?

He shrugged his shoulders. "You know me. Physical fighting isn't really my thing." No, he was more for verbal assault, though that had led to a few fights in the past.

As if to completely contradict this statement, he darted forward with another solid swing.
