s the various Doctor's milled around, Ace approached the Professor
"Professor, why is this so dangerous? I've dealt with Daleks before, you remember?"
"Ace..." The Doctor said quietly "Whatever's going on here, it's much more dangerous than even the most terrible Dalek. I don't know quite what it is, but it needs to be handled carefully."
Ace moved away, and James came up to the Professor
"Now, we know where five is, but what about eight, nine and ten?"
"Well," the Professor replied, whilst flicking switches, pressing buttons and pulling levers, "I'm hoping that when we get to five, well also somehow find some more information."
"And what if we don't?"
"Well, things tend to happen that way, it's best not to think about them."
James grunted, and Morgan mutterd from the Proffesor's other side "You're leading us on a wild goose chase. There's no direction in these co-ordinates."
"Well, do you know where any of them are?"
"No, but..."
"Ah-ha! You're just being grumpy again. Go and find David. He might share some of his brandy with you. It might make you a bit more agreeable."

The Doctor suddenly felt everything spinning around him, and he felt to the floor weakly. Ace ran to him...
What now? SHe shook him gently to wake him, but he seemed to be mumbling. He raised his voice as if he were shouting, but the words were in a fluid, lilting language ace was unfamilliar with. Then he jumped up, and ran to the control panel.
'Professor, you're going to hurt yourself if you keep fainting like that!'
'I never faint. That was my fifth self. He gave me co-ordinates.'
'About time, too!' sneered Morgan.
Professor chose to ignore him.

outside, it was stifling. Professor removed his scarf and coat in an effort to keep cool. Ace held them, as he smiled and said goodbye.
Ace watched him walk through the dead grass, his shoes kicking up little clouds of dust. He had his umbrella open to provide a little shade from the sun. far off in the distance, she heard metallic voices.
Daleks.

_____________________________________________________________

An hour later, Ace was pacing the control room of the TARDIS. David was with her, trying to keep her as calm as he could.
suddenly, the door of the TARDIS flew open.
A young man dressed in cricket whites bolted in, brandishing a charred cricket bat, followed by a certain professor.
'Shut the door!' gasped the new man.
David ran to comply, as sce punched in random co-ordinates.
'Get us out of here!' shouted David.
Professor planted his hands on his knees, bent double, fighting to get his breath back. The younger man laughed, still breathing hard.
'I'm getting old.'
Professor grinned. 'Just you wait... until you're my age...' he panted.
Ace was ecstatic.
'Professor! You're ok!' she went, and he hugged her, then pulled away, fanning himself with his hat.
'Well, that was a close one.' he smiled.
'I think i'm getting a message from number 10...' moaned The newcomer, as he fell. David turned and caught him.
'I think i'll call him Donald.' Said Ace.

((LOL!! I'm loving this story! The bit with all the Doctors at the controls... And the brandy.. and... Donald? Ok I worked out the rest (well not David...) but Donald? It's getting to be a very Scottish gathering with this bunch. Next it'll be Hamish.))

*It took the newcomer - Donald - a little while to recover. His other incarnations began to get nervous.
"Should we get him some water?" said Einstein, looking around for a tap but confused by the new layout, "If we splash some in his face it might help him come around..."

"Will brandy do?" David managed to pour a good third of the contents of his bottle over Donald's face before Grandpa snatched the bottle away from him.

"300 year old Gallifreyan brandy won't do him any good!" he snapped, before taking a swig himself, "Drag him over to the couch and we'll check him over... He might have caught a blow from the Daleks..."

They got him settled on an old couch in the corner and his other incarnations gathered round him, wide-eyed, whilst Grandpa checked him for injuries.
"No blasts... A little burnt clothing... No blood... Nope, the boy's just lazy!"

"Oh..." James, who'd found his recorder at last, tugged the instrument out of the pocket of his oversized frock coat and held it up as if to play, "Well, maybe if I whistle him a little tune or two..."

"NOO!!!" The fifth Doctor shot into an upright position, eyes wide as he snatched the recorder out of James' hands, "....thank you," he grinned, "I just got us some co-ordinates!"

Without looking at the others he rushed over to the console and hammered in the co-ordinates.
"Hmm... Well I certainly don't remember going there before..."

"Where?" said the Professor, hurrying over to take a look at the picture that had appeared on the TARDIS' scanner.

"I don't know... Some sort of big, green..."

Suddenly, there was a crash, the sound of gears crunching and all the lights went out. In the darkness a lone voice called out,
"Oh dear. I think we've landed."*

((indeed, cucco.))

'yes, quite.' snarled morgan, picking himself up.
'now, number, 10 i think it was.' he opened the door of the TARDIS, and at once was thrown backwards from a huge rush of snow. david wrapped his scarf around his neck, over his hat to keep it on, and then over his shoulder. He drew his coat tighter around him.
'it's not very... green here, is it?' he mumbled, stepping out. 'I think only two of us should go out, at the most.'
'I'm going!' yelled Ace.
'Ace...' mumbled professor, but it was too late. She was over with David in an instant.
'So... why are we here instead of a green place?'
'warphole.' said einstein ominously.
'I have a vague idea of who we WILL find here.' said David, barely able to conceal his excitement.
'C'mon, let's go!' he was like an eager child.
they left.
_____________________________________________________________
outside, Ace asked 'David, who's here?'
He ignored her, eyes darting around through the large expanse of white.
'There.' he poined at two shapes stumbling through the snow. it was a woman, with a certain robotic dog.
'Sarah!' shouted David.
'Doctor?' asked the girl nervously.
'Hello, Master.' beeped the dog.
Ace was confused. Another companion? they were running, now, and David hugged Sarah tight.
'Why are you here?' he asked, as they broke apart.
'well...' she began

((here you go, Tato))

(Donald Bradman was an Aussie cricketer, so it's alright if you don't know him. This is the part where I get to stay in this rp)

'Well,' Sarah said 'You'll remember that one day you popped out the blue and landed outside my house,'
'Oh yes,' said David, reminiscing about the "good ol' days"
'Well, we went to that lovely green planet, but on the way back, I sort of fell out.'
'What, of the TARDIS?' asked Ace
'Yes. We must have hit a warphole or something. At least, that's what K-9 said.' She motioned to the robotic dog standing beside her. It spun it's ears in adknowledgement. 'Why's it taken you a whole day to come and pick me up? I'm starving!'
'Well, I've been busy.' David admitted 'But we'd better get back to the TARDIS. It's freezing out here.'
With that, the group wandered back through the snow. Luckily, the TARDIS stood out like a beacon against the feilds of white. On the way, the Doctor explained why he was here and introduced Ace, while Ace told Sarah all of the names for the Doctors and of Mel back in the Tardis. To keep their minds off the cold, they talked of the adventures they had had with their respective Doctors. Sarah was just telling Ace about a nasty peice of work named Eldrad, when they got to the TARDIS.

Inside, the door suddenly opened and a cold wind flooded in. Three figures and a small thingy crowded in before slamming the door shut.
'Did you find him?' Morgan asked
'No.' David said 'But I found someone else.'
Sarah immediatley went to greet Einstein, who looked almost amazed. K-9 went over to the main consle and hooked himself up for recharging.
'So can we get to number ten already?' Morgan growled, unafftced by the reunion
'Of course.' Donald called from the other side of the room, which was now rather crowded 'All we have to do is reset the course trajectory so we veer slightly to the left of the warphole and come down on our un-named green planet.'
'Probability of success: 3 billion, 8 thousand and fifty-eight to one' came a mettalic voice from near David's knees
'Shut up, K-9.' He said, without even bothering to look down

(and with that, I step down from my post as the temporary Doctor and commence Sarah Jane)
PostPosted: Sun Mar 26, 2006 11:28 am

*The TARDIS had now become packed with people. As David and Morgan argued over the best way of 'veering slightly to the left' in loud voices - it seemed that the lack of any more brandy was making both parties a little tetchy - Ace was stood with the Professor, Sarah-Jane and Mel telling stories of her adventures with wide hand gestures and sound effects, the Professor shaking his head in quiet amusement as he listened. In the corner meanwhile, Grandpa stood quite on his own, feeling claustrophobic and tired.

It had been his TARDIS first - and he'd never had to share it before. He'd chosen to, oh yes, but if he'd felt like he felt right then and there, cramped in a corner, he'd have booted the others out without a second thought. He gave a sigh. It was funny how things seemed to always run out of control... He'd thought it would be amusing to bend the rules a little and meet up with his next two incarnations. Spending the day argueing and insulting each other broke the monotony of saving the universe - but this was just ridiculous.

Seeing that no-one was paying him much attention he slipped off through a nearby door. No point in having all this infinite space but no room to move. He headed in the direction of where he thought the main kitchen was. He'd little use for it in his own time - he just ate out of the food-bar dispenser, saved so much fuss - but a nice cup of tea and a biscuit would do just the trick in his present state. After a half-hour walking, however, he soon found that he was lost.

"I know it must be somewhere round here... What's the point in me moving the blasted thing? I get so stupid in my later days..."
He was in a dimly lit stone corridor very different from the other passageways, which were carpeted and cosy. This place was cold and damp, as if he'd passed into another zone. Of course the TARDIS was endless, it could connect to anything in theory, but he'd never have had something like this so close to the control room. At least, he thought that he was close to the control room... He glanced back. He seemed further along the stone corridor than he remembered walking. The stairs that connected back to the other passageways were now cast into shadow. He shivered and then stopped himself, setting his jaw firmly.
"I can always find my way back!" he snapped, as if challenging the walls to contradict him, "I have an excellent memory, even for a Timelord!"

A little further along there was a door that he had at first overlooked. It was made of oak and looked old, it's surface was scratched and blackened in places. He walked towards it.
"If this isn't the kitchen I'm giving up..."
He opened the door. Inside there was thick, black darkness. He made to turn away when suddenly a hand reached out of the darkness and grabbed his arm. With a yell he was pulled sideways and disappeared. The door slammed shut.*

Spooky (bam bam baaaaaaam)

*There was a shout and a thump, and everyone in the control room was suddenly silent.
Ace looked around, and realised David was lying on the floor. Morgan looked rather sheepish. In his anger he had hit his 4th incarnation. David stared disapprovingly at Morgan.
'Never, in our lives...' He began, and then held his head in his hands. At the same time, all the doctors wilted - that was the only word Ace could use to describe it - and some fell.
'What just...' Began Donald
'Number 1!' shouted James.
'Grandpa?' Queried Mel.
They all ran off down the corridors of the TARDIS.
Ace was found with Sarah-Jane and Professor, running.
'I think we're getting close.' said professor, as they rounded a corner.
There was a door. It was made of oak and looked old, it's surface was scratched and blackened in places. He walked towards it.
'Professor, I don't think it's safe.
Suddenly the door opened and a hand reached out, grabbing Professors arm. Luckily Ace and Sarah-Jane were there to hold on to him as a tug-of-war between them began. Professor's hat was knocked off in the struggle. The hand was surprisingly strong. There was a shout from inside.
'Ace! Sarah!'
'Grandpa!' shouted Ace
'It's alright, come in!'
'What?'
they let go of the Professor, and he was catapulted in, comically. Ace picked up his hat, and went in, Sarah Jane not far behind.*

((Are you british? That's so cool! Where from?
I hate cricket, too. I'm from Australia, though.))
PostPosted: Mon Mar 27, 2006 6:29 am

((Genetically speaking I'm a bit from everywhere in Britain... But I probably count as English since I was born there. I've lived in Scotland for ten years now so maybe I count as Scottish too? I think I'll move to Wales next. I drove through Wales, once.))

*Inside the room was a strange swirling mass of light. At first the Professor felt very weak, his knees buckled and he half-fell - until he was caught under the elbow by the same strong hand that had pulled him inside. He turned round to face a humanoid creature, white from head to toe and almost skeletal, it was so thin. It's big, grey eyes gave the impression of not really being eyes at all and it's skin seemed to glow. Then the room began to stop swirling and it's colours dulled. It was a real room again - four stone walls, a burning fireplace to one side but otherwise empty, save for Grandpa and a confused pair of companions.

"What....?" stammered the Professor, unable to form words.

"Fascinating isn't it?" said Grandpa, nodding towards the creature that had moved to his side, "It's giving off vast amounts of energy... I'll admit I got a little overwhelmed when I first saw it. Truly fascinating."

The Professor blinked and looked again. The creature was still glowing, but fainter. It looked more humanoid, it's eyes smaller but, just as before, there was something almost ghost-like about it's appearance.

Hello...

The word sprang into the Professors head - not so much a sound as an impression of a meaning. A greeting that his mind decided could only mean hello. It was a very peculiar sensation. Like half-remembering a dream.

"Hello..." he said back, unsure whether it really had spoken at all.

"Marvelous!" said Grandpa, clapping his hands, "So you hear it too? Glad to see I'm not going funny."

"Hear what?" said Ace, speaking up for the first time since she'd entered the room, "Professor, what the heck is that thing?"

"Some sort of... psychic entity...?" he looked at Grandpa who nodded, "Where did it..." he paused and turned to the creature, "I'm sorry, where did you come from?"

It didn't say any words, but the Professor got the distinct impression of confusion and of falling and of... green.
"You came from that planet? The one on the other side of the wormhole? But... how on Earth did you get onto my TARDIS?"

Again confusion, so the Professor gave up.
"Come along Ace, we'll find the others or they'll start to worry..."
____________________________________________________________

Most of the other Doctors had made their way back to the console room, looking bewildered and lost. Obviously none of them had known the new TARDIS layout very well.
"Left I said! Didn't I say left?"
"It's amazing how long it took you to lead us in a complete circle..."
"Perhaps we should re-check the Library..."
"We have to keep looking! He might have been eaten by monsters or something even more horrible..."
"How could he have been eaten by monsters in his own TARDIS Mel?"
Mel looked up as the Professor entered with Ace, Sarah-Jane and Grandpa and gave a whoop.
"They found him!"

The other Doctors turned as one and smiled with relief. There was a chorus of 'Thank goodness' and 'Didn't I say he'd be fine?'.

"Oh sure," snapped Grandpa, sinking gratefully into a chair, "You all worry plenty about me now, when you suddenly remember your own necks are on the line..."
The Professor noticed that the strange white creature had followed him up through the TARDIS. His other incarnations were staring at it puzzled. The Professor opened his mouth to explain when Ace suddenly cut in.

"Where's James?"

The others stared round. Their second incarnation was missing.
"Not another..." started Einstein when there was a sudden crash from the other side of the console and a spurt of sparks from the controls.

"There," said a voice from somewhere near the floor, "Got it..."

The others walked round to find a pair of feet sticking out of an open panel at the base of the main console. There was the sound of a sonic screwdriver at work and then James shuffled out, smiling.
"I think we can get to that planet now..."

Einstein went a funny colour.
"Didn't you even look round the TARDIS? Our first incarnation could have been dying!"

"I did look," replied James, looking hurt, "But when I didn't pop out of existence after five minutes I decided he was probably alright," Grandpa let out a bark of laughter, "Anyway, I've had to watch those two..." he nodded at Morgan and David, "...doing this wrong all day and it was not a pretty sight. Shall we go to.." he paused, staring at the glowing creature that was staring back, "What's that?"

"It's a sort of psychic life form," explained the Professor, "Made of some sort of temporal energy, possibly from the wormhole..."

"Then why does it know how to play a recorder?"

The Professor looked from one to the other bemused, but he could see the creature's eyes were sparkling.*

((I would like to point out that I doubt being British is any cooler than being Australian, unless you count the climate... ))

((Ok I'm just gonna be cheeky and write some more cos I'm in the writing mood and it's raining outside...))

*The group spent the next 20 minutes watching half amused, half amazed as the glowing creature played a jerky version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on James' recorder, the 2nd Doctor grinning as he watched and showing him more tunes.
"It's as if he already knows them!" said James happily, "What wonderful taste he has..."

"I'm not sure I can take much more of this..." whispered Morgan, shuffling over to the Professor. His 7th self smiled.

"It's alright, we've landed."

The various adjustments to the console seemed to have worked, as the scanner showed a vast stretch of partially-inhabited planet covered by a vivid green sky.
"Humanoids," said the Professor, looking down his readings, "Very human-like humanoids. And they're coming to greet us..."

"Didn't you say the creature came from the planet? They don't look very alike. They're not even glowing."

"I thought he came from the planet. He was a bit confused."

Morgan raised an eyebrow.
"'He'?"

"It. Them!" The Professor shrugged, "Well, for a cloud of energy it has an awful lot of personality!"

"I hope you're not talking about me Professor," said Ace, appearing at his side, "I take it I get to go outside again?"

"I'm not sure... The inhabitants might not be friendly..."

"They certainly wouldn't be friendly after meeting her..." Morgan muttered, getting an elbow in the ribs for his trouble, "Then again, what have we got to lose if they do turn nasty?"

"Professor..." whined Ace, turning on a pleading look. He sighed.

"We're going outside," he announced, striding towards the door, "Anymore volunteers?"

Morgan shrugged and looked disinterested, Grandpa was sat in his chair, leaning on his walking stick as if deep in thought and David had disappeared off into the TARDIS to find some ice for the rapidly swelling lump on his forehead.
"I'll go," said Einstein, grabbing his cloak.

Donald gave a nod too.
"Do you think I'll need my cricket bat?"

___________________________________________

Outside it was sunny - the sky turning a paler green under it's glare - and the Doctors were forced to cover their eyes as they looked down the long, country road that the TARDIS had landed on. There were houses at intervals along the side as it led down into what looked like a city. It was a little way off, but there was definitely sounds of rapid movement and smoke.

A little way ahead a worried looking party of locals were gathered. The Professor had been right, they did look human and although there was the odd difference their clothing was almost Earth-like. They were scared.

The Professor waved a friendly hand.
"Hello there! I don't suppose you could tell me where I am?"

They stared at him for a moment and then ran over, shouting as if in relief.
"Help us! Help us! You have to get a message out!"
"Can you get off world? Take us with you!"
"Did he send you?"

The Professor held up his hands.
"Please! One at a time! What's wrong?"
The people fell silent, as if none of them quite knew how to explain. He sighed and tried again.
"Look, first of all, have any of you seen a friend of ours? Someone who probably called himself the Doctor..."

"The Doctor!"
They said the name like a chant. When they looked like they were working themselves up into a panic again the tallest of them silenced the others with a gesture of his hand and stepped forwards, looking as if he'd finally gathered his wits.
"Excuse us, please. We've been cursed with troubles lately. We met your friend, only a few hours ago. He came and he helped us with the disease that was wiping us out. He vanished only minutes before the monster appeared..."

"Monster?"

"Yes. It made itself out of nothing and began attacking everything in it's path. Luckily we saved those who first saw it, though they are badly injured. We have evacuated the town now - the thing is on a rampage! When we saw you in the same blue box as the Doctor, we hoped he'd sent you to help us..."

"We'll help you if we can," said Einstein, glancing at the others, "But I think you'd better show us this monster first..."

___________________________________________

The settlers led them down towards the city - a smallish city built mostly of stone and wood - and towards the source of the commotion. The streets were empty, though occasionally a shutter would bang shut above their heads or there would be the sound of heavy objects being dragged up against doors. Obviously not everyone had left.

There really was a monster. It was in the very center of the town, in the large paved square where there had been some sort of market going on. The stalls had been ripped to shreds by it's claws.

The creature itself was huge and almost round, it's muscular back legs bent up to it's side like the legs of a toad. It's front was more like a bear, furred and black with huge front claws. It's eyes were set deep into it's head and glowed a strange, firey shade of red. It roared as they approached but didn't seem to see them. It was attacking the side of a nearby building with blind fury.

"My word..." said Donald, staring at it, "Hideous thing. But it looks sort of familiar..."

Einstein gave a nervous laugh.
"How do you mean?"

"See how fuzzy it is round the edges? It's hard to see in this light but it's glowing..."

"Ah," said the Professor, catching on, "Another wormhole monster perhaps. I'm glad this one didn't land on our ship..."

Suddenly the creature turned, halting it's attack on the building. The light in it's eyes flared.

"I think it heard you Professor..." whispered Ace, lifting up her baseball bat, the one she'd hidden in the back of her jacket, "I suppose an apology won't do..."

"Stay back Ace..."

The creature roared. Ace readied herself for an attack. The creature charged but before Ace had a chance to use her weapon it was lifted out of her hands by Donald who rushed towards the creature, roaring himself. He dodged sideways at the last minute, catching the monster a glancing blow to the back knee. It swung round to chase him and he ran, hitting out with the bat when he could.
"Get help!" he shouted, narrowly avoiding a blow to the head.

The Professor turned to run when Einstein dashed past him, heading for the fight. He'd grabbed the pole from one of the collapsed stalls and was weilding it like a club.
"No Ace!" The Professor grabbed her by the arm as she moved to follow, "We have to get back to the TARDIS and find a better weapon to use against it!"

The creature had managed to knock Donald to the ground and was looming over him as if about to eat him whole. It's red eyes had locked with him and he cried out, though not with pain. Something was happening inside his head. He felt a rush of images and emotions. Ships crashed, cities fell, planets exploded...
"Rose!"
He bellowed the name out as a pair of strong hands dragged him out of the creatures reach. Einstein grabbed the pole and struck it across the monster's face. It rose up on it's hind legs shrieking as Einstein and Donald backed away.

"I don't believe I know a Rose..." said Einstein, dodging another blow from the creature.

Donald shook his head, trying to free his mind of the rush of images.
"Neither do I. But that thing does. And it knows me too..."

"Really?"

___________________________________________

The Professor was dragging Ace back along the road when he saw a familiar figure heading towards them at breakneck speed - the strange white creature from the TARDIS, glowing furiously. And behind it was another familiar figure.
"James... what's going on?"
The creature rushed past him as the 2nd Doctor stopped, gasping for breath. He'd obviously chased it all the way from the TARDIS.

"I... don't know... it just.... got up and... left... hurry!"
He pointed at the white creature as it headed for the square and the fight. He forced himself to run after it and the Professor and Ace followed.

___________________________________________

"Oh my giddy aunt!" said James, skidding to a halt.

In the square the black creature had cornered Einstein and Donald. The stall pole had been snapped in two by the creature's long front claws but Donald still clung to Ace's bat, holding it up like a shield as their attacker prepared a killing blow.
"Nice to have met you..." he mumbled, closing his eyes.

As the black monster raised it's claws the white creature flew forward with a noise like a light-bulb ringing. It's hit the monster's back; there was a flash and they both disappeared into a swirling ball of smoke and light. Shielding their eyes from the brightness that seemed to make even the bright green sun look dim, the Doctors and Ace watched as the light and smoke shrank and reformed into the shape of a man. The light fell away revealing the tired, battered form of the tenth Doctor.

"Hello," he said, swaying dangerously from side to side as he spoke, "My name's... the Doctor...."

And with that he collapsed to the ground unconscious.*

((There's an awful lot of fainting in this... but I suppose it's in honor of the thread's title.))
PostPosted: Mon Mar 27, 2006 4:47 pm

((Hmmm. I've always wanted to go to scotland. My dad's scottish. But he hasn't an accent - he came here at the age of 3.))

Ace looked down at the man who lay crumpled on the floor with some concern.
Professor and James knelt down beside him and lifted him gently between them.
The creature was gone.
As they made their way back to the TARDIS, Donald was dragging ace's bat wearily behind him, james and professor carrying the new doctor, ace and einstein infront of the group, walking slowly, silently.
Ace could contain herself no longer.
'Professor! What.Is.Going.On!'
'Ace!' he snapped back. 'This is NOT the time!'
'When whill be the time, then? Never? When you're dead? I need to know what's happening!'
'Quiet, girl.' muttered Einstein ,'It's confusing for us, too. Perhaps even more so. We need to concentrate on keeping this one' He indicated the newcomer 'Alive.'
'Are you saying he's going to die?'
'He could.'
and none of them would say any more.
_____________________________________________________________

Back in the TARDIS, they put the new Doctor to bed immediately to rest. He certainly looked like he needed it.
Professor, David, Ace and Sarah stayed to watch him.
Ace fidgeted, while Professor dozed tiredly, Sarah was pacing nervously and Einstein was watching his 10th incarnation with a mixture of worry and regret.
Number 10 stirred, and sat up in an instant, screaming words in that lilting, fluid language Ace was unfamilliar with.
Professor woke up, and laid a hand on his shoulder, speaking softly in the same language.

((that's it, RLS is fin.))

(Scotland, eh? I've always wanted to go to Japan. But that's irrelevant.)

After drinking some tea, (which may or may not have had some brandy in it), the newcomer felt well enough to shuffle around with support. While he and the other Doctors talked in the main console room, Mel, Ace, Sarah and K-9 stayed out in the corridor. Mostly because they didn't get what the Doctors were talking about, but partially because there was very little room. From what Sarah could gather, they only had two more incarntions of the Doctor to collect before they had the whole set. After that, she hadn't a clue. To try and take their minds off the confusion, the girls talked about themselves, and the normal aspects of their lives that seemed so trivial now. After a while, the Professor and Donald came out. They were immediatley bombarded with questions. Unfortunaltey, they received few answers. 'Come on now, we've landed.' Donald stated.
'Where have we landed?' asked Mel
'Are we coming outside?' asked Sarah
'What's going on?' asked Ace
'I'm not sure, yes, I don't know.' the Professor answered
'Why do we get to come this time?' Sarah queried
'Because we'll need some special.....skills.' Donald answered. He was given three identical looks of death, and one 'beep'

((I'm going to give Mel some thoughts now... she hasn't had that many.))

They stepped out of the TARDIS and into a bustling street market. Brightly decorated stalls surrounded them, stretching off down side-roads and disappearing round corners. Everything was alive with smells and sounds and colours. Mel looked around longingly at the strange and beautiful treasures on sale. It was like Aladdin's cave... if Aladdin had had tentacles and eyes on stalks...

Everyone there - customers and stall-holders alike - was a different shape, a different colour. Some had fur and whiskers, some scales. There was one built like an upright horse and another with six pairs of legs, each pair wearing a different set of shoes. The noise was overwhelming and she felt Donald clinging to her arm as they walked, keeping them all together in case they were dragged away by the tide of people.

There were so many people... and it was hard not to stare. Mel caught herself looking at a huge, orange half-lizard, half-bird creature and knew that her mouth was hanging open. She closed it, turned and nearly walked straight into a large, probably female alien whose round yellow body was topped with a shock of pink hair. She tried to apologise but was dragged on by the Doctor. Eventually, the five of them made it to a clear spot by a fountain and stopped to gather their wits.

"Phew! It's a little crowded here isn't it?" said Donald, fanning himself with his celery stick that had begun to wilt in the heat from the market, "Some stunning merchandise! Not all of it strictly legal of course, but very impressive."

"This is going to be the hardest search yet!" muttered the Professor, taking off his hat and wiping the sweat from his brow.

Donald laughed.
"Harder than the Dalek planet? Harder than fighting giant monsters?"
His smile dimmed a little when he mentioned the monster. But neither Doctor said anything.

Whilst they were speaking Mel's eyes drifted again and she found herself looking down one of the quieter side streets. It was darker down there and obviously cooler. A lot of the stalls were draped in heavy purple or red material, something like velvet, and customers had to pull the curtain aside to see the merchandise. Obviously the shady area of the market, she thought. Then something caught her eye. In amongst the talking birds and giant lizards she spotted a creature that looked, to her, totally out of place. It was a human male - or certainly looked like one. His dark hair was cropped close to his head, which she didn't think suited him at all - it made his nose look huge - and he was wearing a battered leather jacket that seemed more suited to Earth than the alien markets of the future.

She watched as he nodded to one of the stall holders - an insectoid thing wearing a particularly hideous turban-like hat - before disappearing behind the purple drapes. She sighed.*

*The man with the big nose looked around, and his gaze fixed on them. Ace looked straight back at him, sending as many hostile thoughts through her eyes as she could. But nevertheless, he hurried over.
'Hello.' he said.
Professor fell into the fountain in shock. This brought a faint smile to the lips of the newcomer.
'Interesting what you're doing there, old friend.' He extended a hand to help the spluttering professor to his feet. He was drenched fron head to toe, water streaming off him. His straw hat sagged, and little rivulets of water ran down the sides of his face. the three companions couldn't help but laugh. Neither could donald, for that matter.
'So, you're one of the Doctors, then.' siad Ace, eyeing him thoughtfully.
She stood and looked at him, trying to decided what to call him. When she decided, a bubble of laughter burst within her. She exploded with laughter, bent double. In the midst of her frivolities, she managed to choke out
'Big...Nose.'
This set everyone but the man laughing, almost uncontrollably. They attracted a lot of strange looks from passers by.
The newly-named doctor looked confused and offended. Professor managed to control himself for long enough to pat him on the shoulder and say
'It's your new nickname, my friend.'
Suddenly, there was a tentacle on his shoulder. Bignose looked up at t he creature that was standing behind professor.
It gabbled in an unknown language to ace, like charcoal grating on a board in someone's mouth who was trying to gargle with raw eggs.
To Ace's surprise, Professor turned around and responded in the same language.
'What's happening?' whispered mel.
'The thing's angry about the doctor, my 7th self laughing so close to his stall. He finds it an insult.' muttered Bignose
'What?'
'An insult. That particular race is insulted very easily.'

Just then, the creature hit the professor across the face, making him yelp in pain, and sending him crashing into Ace. It advanced on them, tentacles outstretched, and hit Professor again. The foce of the blow sent a shock thorugh every nerve in Ace's body, as they went flying into a nearby vacant stall. Wood splintered and fabric tore as they connected with it. She heard the Professor gasp as the wind was knocked out of him, and felt blood that she was sure was not her own.
When she stood up shakily, she realised it wasn't. The creature had returned to it's business, but the Professor was lying on the ground of the now rather hurt.
Now Extremely badly hurt.

(( yes, mel needs something to do smile ))
