So there were secret things too. Danny would probably ask about them very loudly the moment they stepped foot outside the pizza shop.
"Okay uh ... were we like ..." No wait, that was a dumb question. It didn't matter how public they were about their displays of affection in the past. Whether they were lovey dovey as Jack and Sally or not, it wouldn't change the way she acted now, right? "Ummmmm. What about your family? Have I met them? Did they like me?"

His face scrunched up. "Yeah, you met my parents. It went about as well as I could have hoped. I think you actually made it out on their good side, or their slightly-better-than-neutral side, so congratulations!
Their order was brought to the table and Rikki paused for a moment to put a slice on a plate for himself. He gave her a small smile before he continued. "Don't be too concerned about them, my parents are assholes. It doesn't matter what they think."

Danny quickly switched her small piece with his average sized piece, so that she had the better end of the bargain.
"Mmm. That's too bad. My parents aren't too bad." A thoughtful remission of Oersted- did Rikki know about that too?- was included with her speech. "Mmmm did we go on dates? Adventures? I dunno, where'd we go?"

Rikki gave her a joking sneer as she switched their slices but bit into the new slice vigorously anyways. "Haven't met your folks. Met your brother, though, he's... something."
He hummed around a mouthful of pizza. "I dunno. We did normal stuff. Shopping, video games, movies. A lot of movies. A lot of pizza. We've been on a bunch of the school trips together, too. Actually, it's probably for the best you don't remember that. Yeah."
"We were pretty simple. We like a lot of the same stuff so it doesn't take much to enjoy ourselves."

Danny nodded. She could picture herself shopping and playing video games and going to the movies. Then again, she could picture herself doing those things with anyone. But she was choosing to picture doing them as a date.
"Oh no, I remember the field trips ..." she said quietly. "Just not ... you being there." Danny most certainly didn't want to remember those things, and if Rikki HAD been there then she was sure he wanted to move on too.
Pizza came and pizza went. "Mmm did we have inside jokes? I feel like those are important ..."

Rikki drummed his fingers on the top of the table and nodded. "Like I said, for the best."
He hummed softly and shrugged. "Most of our jokes are at Roch's expense. I don't think we have anything that you wouldn't still understand? It doesn't matter, even if we did, we'll just make new jokes. There's no shortage of ridiculous things around here."
He took a moment to chew at his crust. "Oh, hey, did you know I was there when your wings had a growth spurt thing?"

Danny tilted her head. "You were? I just remember being alone in a hotel room ... I think it was when I went to visit my brother's." She couldn't even remember that far back.
She looked up and noticed Rikki ... he kind of ... "Hey you uh ... you got something on your face."

Rikki shook his head. "Yeah, I was there meeting Oersted. I held you through it, and it scared me half to death."
He squinted at her, and then quickly slapped at his mouth, trying to get the sauce off. When he pulled his hand away it was smeared with red. "That's never not embarrassing," he laughed.

Danny's cheeks grew a rosy red when Rikki talked about holding her. Okay sure she didn't have the memory of it, but even she was a girl with feelings. "Oh. Uh. s**t wow," she said, covering her mouth and looking away.
Pizza done and questionnaire finished, she said, "Do you uh ... you wanna go for a walk or something?" Maybe she didn't quite want the date to end.

Rikki flashed a grin, big and brilliant, glad that she would want to keep the date going. "Yeah, sure. We can head to the park. If we get there soon we can probably feed the goldfish poms in the pond." He stood and took her hand with an easy smile, comfortable in a way he hadn't been before.
