"Oh, I can do more than that." The webbing of Meets' fin spreads wide as she touches it to the doe's side, curling around the just beginning swell of her belly. The dark glow of her eyes blinks out as she closes them and a charged energy seems to fill her being, traveling like static through her tail and into the other doe. She smiles, eyes still closed and head tilted, as if listening to something only she can hear. "They will be strong," she says, the tone of her voice somehow more sonorous than before, "and they will love their mothers above all else."
There are a few moments of charged silence before Meets' eyes open, the strange energy dissipating in the air around them.

She breathes out a sigh of relief -- but maybe it is something more than that. It seems a little shaky, drawn up from someplace deep within her, where she had kept her worries thoroughly tied down, twisted into a bramble. Now it has all come undone. Now she can breathe. "I cannot repay you for this," she says, her voice still calm and steady and slow -- a voice that kin might follow through the depths of a hurricane. A voice that expects to be obeyed, but one that is suffused with something akin to mother-love. "But you are welcome here, if you should like to stay."

Meets can almost see the disentangling of the doe's worries as the weight of them seems to leave her shoulders. "Repayment is unnecessary," she replies, a twinkle of bemusement in her eye. "You are kind, but I must return to my own tribe -- my mate will be waiting." She grinned knowingly at the regal doe. "You understand. Send yours my blessing, as well as the motherfather's." With one last beatific smile, Meets-the-Sea steps backward, her form going translucent as she shifts from mare to crane and leaps silently into the sky.
