And Wards the Way, well. Led the way. It took time, though, guiding her through and to all the places he considered important in the deeper swamp. With his knowledge of and love for every inch of his home, and with her thirst for knowledge and curiosity, he indulged himself and educated her, showing her most of everything. Such a journey and exploration took time. They ate together. They dozed together, with Wards most often standing a watchful sort of guard while she rested, either standing or tucked safely into the embrace of a root-den. Wards learned more about the eager young doe and shared some, if not all, of his secrets in turn. And when the journey ended, some -- how many days had it been since they'd met? -- he brought her back to where she'd first crossed the invisible line that marked "his" territory. He nodded to the trees she'd first stepped through, saying a gentle, "That is your way home again. You see? I did promise not to lead you astray."Amorpheous How's that for a time skip? smile

And she had fewer secrets than he, perhaps none at all, just faint morsels of things unknown even to her that wove their way into her words and hinted things that would, for now, remain mysteries. She spoke with openness and clarity, lucidity and long, winding thoughts easy to follow in the slow, quietness that enveloped them in the old growths.
His gift to her was that of knowledge, wisdom, a point of view unique to his land. Her gift to him was a willingness to think and turn his words over in her mind, shaping them into new thoughts and ideas that curled into the air and were absorbed by the trees.
Then they were back at the beginning, days passed in dapple light and careening words. She smiled, "You have not."
And she gazed past the trees to where the Swamp, younger and clamoring with life, awaited her.Samuel Carlin OuO And we're nearly done. Post from you, good bye from me, and final thoughts from Wards to wrap up sound good?

Wards watched her considering the trees. The way out and the world she'd be going back to, perhaps, though he could only guess at that. They'd spent plenty of time in silence over the last few days. Rather than feeling full of unspoken things and unanswered questions, though, they'd begun to feel comfortable. Like they, in turn, were comfortable in their own skins, even with strange company. It was a nice feeling. "Perhaps, one day, if the swamp beyond allows me passage and the world Out There has not forgotten how to exist," which it hadn't, of course, "I will come and walk the paths you know. You can be my guide. Lessons exchanged for Lessons. That seems good, doesn't it?"

She nodded, opting not to speak for a long moment. She turned back to him, regarding him with her pale eyes with warmth. "One day, if our paths cross again."
"We will follow paths both familiar and new, changed and unchanged, eternally being infused with the life of all who walk them, but still maintaining part of what was there before." She smiled faintly, as was her want, before nodding once more.
"Until we meet again," she said quietly before taking her leave.
She walked away the same way she came, quietly picking her way over roots, antlers brushing past leaves and hanging fronds, gently pulling away, until she was gone.

Wards watched as the doe left his realm again. Not with the wary uncertainty he'd taken note of her arrival, but with a sort of contented satisfaction. It was his choice to stay tucked away, separated from the world that moved at a faster pace, his choice to stay close to his friends, his family by blood and bond. But now he had an inkling, an idea of the kin that might lie beyond that heavy veil of moss and branch. Not all of them were strange and alien and somehow wrong. There were kindred souls to be found out where the sunlight refused to be held back by the canopy of leaves overhead. There were new places to learn and explore. There were friends.
