Jan sounded a lot more certain than Konstantin did. Maybe he'd been here longer. Well, Noah would find out, he was sure. He was immediately distracted by the subject of familiars.
He was way too old and too cool to make undignified squeaking noises about the tamagotchi, but his smile intensified by another few watts. "That's awesome." He paused. A weapon? How was a tamagotchi a weapon? Maybe it was a remote control for something bigger. Like, a tank or something. "I get one too?" he asked delightedly.

"You do. Though it is not as much of a bonus as you might think. They expect us to fight I think." And he had done anything in his power to avoid having to, with no small degree of success. "But at least it will help you survive, it makes us stronger I think."
"I think you do. We don't get a choice." If he'd had the choice he'd have stayed asleep.
ever again.>
"You need to go to the cave."

The little pixel creature waddled around on screen, squishing up and down. Clipping it back to his belt (after feeding it, of course), Kostya nodded at Jan.
"Ve are hunters," he said, quite grave. "Ve serve, fight, and sometimes die."
(Mimsy gloating, covered in blood, her coat splattered, her eyes manic-)
"Do not be having any vorry," he said after a moment, not meaning to be so...serious. "Ve are strong. Do as Jan say, da-- go to cave, find veapon. All goes up."

"Hunters," Noah said thoughtfully, tasting the word. It sounded exciting. He gave them both a nervous, excited grin. "Where's the cave, where do I go? What do I do after I do that?"

"Dying probably isn't so bad since you've done it already" he volunteered helpfully. "And yes. The cove!"
He couldn't remember where it was.
"I'm sure our friend here can help you find that. And afterwards you go see your room. You get to stay here forever apparently, its better than nothing though, you can go far!"

"Oh! Can take you to place, is not far." Kostya lead the way towards the doors, and upon opening the door they were greeted by warm air.
He really, really wished that air conditioning was part of essential power for the main areas.
"Is room, full of many...hm...how you say?" Kostya held his hands up to make the shape of a rectangle of medium size. "Stone. Picture of veapon on it. Very, very, many. Right one talks to you in head, after time. Can take long; need patience."
He gestured to the labs around them as they walked. "This place, is Life division place. Many divisions. Mist, Death, Moon, Sun."

Noah wasn't quite sure how to take that comment about dying not being so bad since he'd already done it. It ... sort of made sense? Jan was so cheerful about it, though.
The rush of warm air when they reached the doors made Noah flinch a little. Well, they weren't in Russia, then. "Whoa, it's hot. Um. Blocks?" he offered uncertainly when Konstantin seemed to be fumbling for a word in English. Then, more excitedly, "Telepathy? Whoooaaa." Weapons linked to your mind? That might be one of the coolest things he'd ever heard.
"Divisions?" he asked, not quite sure what Konstantin meant by that. It sort of sounded like titles, but he wasn't sure. "What's that for?"

"Did you expect hell to be anything but hot?" Lawr asked with a grin as they stepped out into the searing heat.
The incessant rambling in his thoughts was maddening, a slow building tension under the surface until he wanted to just scream. Just scream until he could drown it out.
Unfortunately screaming like a madman in public didn't do much for his friendly act, so he kept it in. "It's not actually all that cool, son." he volunteered. "Some of them talk a lot. A lot a lot. I hope you got your sleeping out of the way in that pod."
He hardly even heard Kostya's comment about divisions and gave him a confused look as he explained. He stayed quiet on the subject of them even when Noah asked about them since he had no idea at all what they were.

"Hmm. Flat blocks?" Kostya offered, shrugging afterwards. His life was a string of close enough when communicating in English. They were outside, now, walking toward the main building.
Lawrence called it hell, and while perhaps he was being literal, it was close enough in a figurative sense. He was right about the weapon talking, though, as Syntax cheerfully rattled off lines of pseudo code, chittering about player 2 being absent and leveling up.
"Division... " The Russian pointed at the moon on his coat. "Specialties? Moon defends and Sun attacks. Death is spy and Life is technology. Mist do all."
The hunter circle of life, as it were.
He eyed Jan, trying to figure his division, but they were nearing the weapons cove. "Is time, now, Noah."

Noah winced as the stale warmth of indoor air gave way to stingingly hot sunlight. Okay, either it was, like, August, or they were way farther south than he was used to. Jan got a wide-eyed look for his comment about hell. It was a little confusing, but Noah didn't want to look stupid, so he stayed quiet.
"I'm awake now," he said brightly. He couldn't quite manage to believe in the thought that maybe it wasn't cool to have a telepathic weapon talking to you in your head, because that idea just seemed intrinsically cool, but he wasn't going to outright contradict someone who knew more about the place than he did.
"Ohhh," he said in response to Konstantin's halting explanation. "Like, departments. Okay." Then he was being pointed at a set of stone steps, and he hesitated, suddenly nervous. But it was time now, and he pasted his smile in place, not wanting to seem like too much of a stupid noob. "Okay, here goes."
He headed for the stairs, squaring his shoulders and straightening his back. He could do this. He was going to be a superhero too.
